Formula 1 drivers are going head-to-head off the track to see whose exclusive, signed photo raises the most money for the charity Sightsavers International.

Following on from his amazing win in the Indian Grand Prix this weekend, Sebastian Vettel’s Eyes on F1 photo has gone up for auction this week. The social media campaign has already raffled photos of Jenson Button, Michael Schumacher, Mark Webber and Lewis Hamilton. Still to come are Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa.

Chelsea captain and England international John Terry has been announced as an Ambassador for Make-A-Wish Foundation UK, the charity that grants magical wishes to children and young people fighting life-threatening illnesses.

The Blues’ skipper, who has already generously supported Make-A-Wish for several years by donating prizes for auction at fundraising events, will in his new role help the charity with publicity and fundraising. The star’s new role comes after he recently dedicated a goal scored during Chelsea’s Champions’ League triumph over Marseille in September 2010 to a young girl called Ruby who had her wish granted by the charity.

Jenson Button Makes A Wish Come True For Sick Boy

Formula 1 champion Jenson Button took time out of his busy schedule recently to meet a sick young boy for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

According to the charity: "Four year old Bernard from Clackmannanshire in Scotland lives with Neuroblastoma (a form of Cancer) and is motor-mad. He’s a huge racing fan who loves everything to do with Formula One: the engines, the race suits, the helmets and boots – but most of all, longtime Make-A-Wish supporter and Formula One World Champion Jenson Button!

“Jenson met his young fan at the McLaren Technology Centre in Woking where the driver’s winning cars are designed and tested. Bernard, together with Mum Anne-Marie, Dad Raymond and siblings Brendan and Helen, was given an exclusive tour around McLaren’s top-secret laboratories and Jenson spent time talking with the family about the thrills and spills of the international motor racing circuit.

Jenson Button Raises Charity Cash In London Triathlon

Formula 1 champion Jenson Button completed his second London Triathlon for the Make-A-Wish Foundation on Sunday.

Despite suffering tonsillitis, the racer finished fourth out of 570 competitors in his group and raised more than £18,000 through his JustGiving page. The race comprised a 1500m swim, 40km bike ride and a 10km run.

“Great day at the London Triathlon,” he wrote on Twitter. “Suffered quite a bit on the run due to just being physically drained I guess from the antibiotics. Still reasonably happy with the result though.”

Following up on his double success in last year’s event, when he was proud to finish second in his age category and raise almost £20,000 for Make-A-Wish (the charity that grants magical wishes to children and young people living with life-threatening illnesses), Button is aiming to come first in his age-group and to top last year’s total. As he says himself – “Nothing like putting pressure on!”

The drivers and teams of the Formula One world have again supported the annual StarCards F1 charity auction, supporting Great Ormond Street Hospital in London.

These world famous auctions have been supported by Sutton Images since 2004 and continue to raise thousands of pounds for the charity.

Mark Sutton of Sutton Images supported the fundraising event by supplying images and obtaining the signatures of all the 2010 F1 drivers – including Lewis Hamilton, Jenson Button and Mark Webber – on Great Ormond Street Hospital playing cards, a GOSH tee shirt and grid photographs.

Jenson Button Grants A Charity Wish

A youngster fighting a life-threatening illness has been granted his wish to meet his motor-racing hero.

Eight year old Joseph, who is from Garrowby in East Yorkshire, is battling Burkitt’s Lymphoma, a cancer of the lymphatic system, for which he is undergoing chemotherapy. Joseph asked the Make-A-Wish Foundation UK if he could meet current Formula One World Champion Jenson Button for a personal tour of the headquarters of the McLaren Mercedes team in Woking, Surrey and Jenson took a break from his racing schedule to make the wish come true.

Joseph’s day began when a stretch limousine pulled up to the Brooklands Hotel in Weybridge, where Joseph was staying with his Mum Rachel, Dad Matthew and brothers Harry, ten, and Sam, four. From there, the family were whisked up the road to the McLaren Technology Centre, where goodie bags, lunch and Jenson awaited them, in that order!

Sport Relief To Hit British TV This Friday

Sport Relief is back… and British TV viewers will be able to enjoy a weekend of entertainment for charity starting on Friday, March 19.

BBC One and Two will host a special broadcast that brings together the worlds of sport and entertainment to raise money to help vulnerable people in the UK and the world’s poorest countries.

The show will include a special performance by Annie Lennox, as well as comedy sketches featuring David Beckham, Jenson Button, Andy Murray and more. Hosted by Richard Hammond, Davina McCall, Christine Bleakley and others, the Friday night extravaganza will feature special editions of shows such as Top Gear and Masterchef.

Lynn Priory Rotary Club (UK) will host their tenth annual black tie dinner and auction gala on Friday, March 26 to benefit the diabetes team at Lynn’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital, who need help in getting essential equipment for those with consistent control problems on insulin therapy. 

Club spokesman Tony Williams said: “Having raised more than £98,000 in the last nine years, we are confident of breaking the £100,000 barrier this year!” 

Williams’ confidence is well founded, as the wide variety of items and opportunities up for auction are amazing.

Stars Paint Butterflies For Charity

A host of stars have donated their own very special artworks to an auction and exhibition to benefit a hospice in the UK.

Harry Potter star Rupert Grint has joined with Coldplay, Jenson Button, David Coulthard, Julian Clary, Katherine Jenkins, Fearne Cotton, Elaine Paige and many others in creating butterfly-inspired paintings to raise money for charity.

The paintings will be on display at the Stockwood Discovery Centre in Luton from 1-29 March. The paintings will then be auctioned on eBay between March 19-28.

The whole Beckham family have created a series of one-off designs with the hope of inspiring the nation to rise to the challenge for Sport Relief 2010– and they’re about to fly off the shelves at Sainsbury’s and TK Maxx where they’re now exclusively on sale.

Comedian James Corden is about to get up close and personal with David Beckham.

Corden – in character as Gavin And Stacey’s Smithy – will give the soccer icon a massage for charity. And Beckham will return the favor afterwards – in a sketch to be broadcast in March on BBC One’s Sport Relief.

“The sketch is hilarious, they couldn’t be more different – the pair of them massaging each other will be a sight to behold,” a source told The Sun.

Signed books by JK Rowling, Stephenie Meyer, Jenson Button, Richard Branson, Ricky Gervais, Michael Parkinson and many more are going under the hammer for charity thanks to the work of a man from Bristol, UK.

Grant Thompson has been collecting the autographed books from celebrities for the last two years, and is now selling them for a local MS charity.

“JK Rowling was my first book which [then] got me started from there,” Thompson told the BBC. “Originally I was trying to keep everything Bristol-based and I knew JK Rowling lived outside Bristol. Also her mum had MS as well, so it started with that really.”

Formula 1 champion Jenson Button has made a wish come true for a very special fan.

Button – patron of the Make-A-Wish Foundation UK – met a young man with a brain tumor for the organization last week. Shaun – who suffers from Craniopharyngioma – has been a huge fan of the driver since his early days, and got the chance to meet his hero through the amazing work of the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Shaun was taken by limousine to the headquarters of the Brawn GP Team in Northamptonshire and given a private viewing of a Brawn GP car – a rare privilege for any member of the public. He was also introduced to BBC F1 presenter Jake Humphrey and ex-England Rugby Union player Matt Dawson.

Some very special young fans joined the celebrations after Jenson Button was announced unbeatable Formula One World Champion after the 2009 Brazilian Grand Prix.

Earlier this year Jenson, a long-standing vice-president of the National Blind Children’s Society, donated one of his 2009 season race suits which is being auctioned in aid of NBCS.

Just after winning the Turkish Grand Prix in Istanbul, Jenson signed one of his Brawn GP race suits and presented it to NBCS Chief Executive Carolyn Fullard at the Silverstone Racing Circuit in Northamptonshire.

Prince Charles Thanks Celebrities For Charity Support

Prince Charles thanked a number of high-profile celebrities for their support of his Prince’s Trust this week by holding a special garden party at his Highgrove home near Tetbury, in Gloucestershire.

Along with the Duchess of Cornwall, Prince Charles wined and dined over 100 guests, including Phil Collins – the Trust’s first ambassador – as well as Bryan Adams, Phillip Schofield, Gary Lineker, Sir Ben Kingsley, Jenson Button, Amanda Burton, Sanjeev Bhaskar, Jeremy Irons, Joss Stone, Kate Adie, Aleisha Dixon and many others. The celebrity ambassadors were given a tour of the Highgrove estate in the late summer sun before lunching on asparagus and pea risotto followed by summer berries with pannacotta.

“I have been a Prince’s Trust ambassador for going back 20 years and it is has been a real privilege to be able to meet people who have benefited from the scheme and turned their life around,” said Gary Linekar.

Jenson Button Competes In Triathlon For Charity

Formula 1 driver Jenson Button got active for charity yesterday, August 2, when he competed in the London Triathlon.

The driver completed the 1.5km swim, 40km bike ride and 10km run in just over 2 hours to raise money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

“I have had the pleasure of meeting lots of kids who are supported by the charity at our tests and races,” said Jenson. “It’s a real privilege to be involved with them. The kids are so inspirational and hopefully we can raise enough money to fulfill as many of their dreams as possible.”

The Great Ormond Street Hospital is set to benefit from many current and recent celebrity charity auctions, including a date with Orlando Bloom, which brought in £9,000 ($14,600) just last week.

The Pirates of the Caribbean star was on hand at the Victoria and Albert museum with Formula One racing driver Lewis Hamilton, British TV presenter Vernon Kay and Jade Jagger to help raise over £450,000 ($730,000) for the children’s charity.

Hamilton and other F1 stars, such as Jenson Button, Rubens Barrichello, Sebastian Vettel, Jarno Trulli and Kimi Raikkonen have all signed unique displays for an auction benefitting the children’s hospital. The auction will run at Starcards.org until June 30th.

Formula One winning driver Jenson Button is asking his fans to support him in this year’s London Triathlon on August 1-2 to raise funds for Make-A-Wish UK.

“I’m in a position where I can try and make the kids dream come true, it does give you big satisfaction seeing the little smiles on their faces,” Button says in a promotional video.

Prior to the Monaco Grand Prix in Monte Carlo, Formula One drivers took part in a fashion show at the Amber Fashion event to raise funds for the Elton John AIDS Foundation.

This is the second year in a row that Petra Ecclestone, daughter of Formula One Management CEO Bernie, has unveiled her F1 inspired men’s wear collection ‘FORM’ using the sports’ driver’s as models. Walking the catwalk for charity were Lewis Hamilton, Jenson Button, Nico Rosberg, Mark Webber, Adrian Sutil, Vitantonio Liuzzi, Sebastian Vettel and F1 veteran David Coulthard.

One of last year’s participants, Mark Webber, commented: “Last year my knees were shaking a bit, but now it’s all routine! Could the catwalk be a career for me? No. So far I’ve never been a fashion junkie, but you never know – never say never!”

Sir Elton John threw a star-studded gala to raise money for his AIDS Foundations earlier this week – although the Rocket Man himself was unable to attend.

Sir Elton’s partner David Furnish had to take over the hosting duties at the Grey Goose Character and Cocktails party in London on Wednesday night, with proceeds going to the Elton John AIDS Foundation.

A host of celebs turned up for the glitzy bash, including Little Britain’s David Walliams, model Eva Herzigova, singer Lily Allen, Giles Deacon and Jenson Button.

Children's Hospital Benefits From Formula One Party

It was a case of life in the fast lane for a host of celebrities earlier this week when they turned up at the annual British Grand Prix Party in aid of the Great Ormond Street Hospital.

Hosted by Vernon Kay and Tess Daly, the event raised over £700,000 (US$1.4 million) to build the hospital’s new Heart and Lung Center. Held at London’s famous Bloomsbury Ballroom at Victoria House, the event attracted a host of stars, including producer and hip-hop star Pharrell Williams, Simon Webb, Jamelia, and Formula One’s Jenson Button and Damon Hill.

“I stand fully behind the F1 efforts to make a better life for GOSH’s young patients,” said Button, who was one of the first to arrive on the red carpet – perhaps because of his fast driving skills.

Life In The Fast Lane Gets Even Faster For Kimi Raikkonen

Ferrari’s Formula One world champion Kimi Raikkonen may be used to life in the fast lane, but things are going to get a whole lot faster thanks to a charity auction held late last week.

The driver paid $315,000 for a 1974 Chevrolet Corvette owned by Hollywood actress Sharon Stone at the Amber Fashion Show and Auction in aid of the Elton John AIDS Foundation on Friday night in Monaco.

The gala, held at the Meridien Beach Plaza Hotel, raised over $1.6 million for the charity, and was attended by a “who’s who” of the motor racing world. McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton, Honda’s Jenson Button, Red Bull’s Mark Webber, and Renault’s Nelson Piquet were among drivers modelling a collection designed by Formula One supremo Bernie Ecclestone’s daughter, and many of them looked like they will have a career in high fashion modelling after their racing days are over.
