Speaking to the 400 polo guests who helped raise the funds for his Sentebale charity, Prince Harry said: "This is the last day of my tour around the United States. Thank you for a wonderful week.

“I have witnessed the extraordinary generosity of the people of this great nation.”

Prince Harry received a fantastic welcome when his tour of America began last week – and a glowing tribute from First Lady Michelle Obama.

Hundreds of people greeted him on Washington’s Capitol Hill when he attended an event promoting the HALO Trust, an anti-landmine charity he supports.

And when he was announced as a surprise guest at a White House tea reception honouring military mothers he received a standing ovation and more whoops of delight from US servicewomen and their children. He was a surprise guest whose attendance had been kept secret from the 170 invited mothers, grandmothers and youngsters.

The event, which is taking place on Friday, July 27, in London is being co-sponsored by Let’s Move!, Nickelodeon’s The Big Help, and the Department of State, and will include sports stations, musical performances and appearances by Olympic and Paralympic legends including members of the U.S. delegation along with David Beckham, Bart Conner, Nadia Comaneci, Teresa Edwards, Emily Hughes, Sarah Hughes, Shawn Johnson, Dikembe Mutombo, Dara Torres, members of the 2012 US Track and Field Team and Manchester United legends, among others.

Anjelica Huston Says No To Fur In Ireland

Anjelica Huston – who spent much of her childhood in Ireland and once posed in fur for British Vogue – has appealed to Simon Coveney, Minister for Agriculture, Food & the Marine, to ensure that Ireland honors its commitment to ban fur farming in the upcoming Animal Health and Welfare Bill. The BAFTA and Academy Award winner wrote to the agriculture minister on behalf of PETA and the Animal Rights Action Network.

“I was delighted to learn from my friends at PETA and the Animal Rights Action Network (ARAN) that Ireland had passed legislation to ban fur farming by 2012,” wrote the actress. "However, I am concerned that the changes in government since that decision may put the ban in jeopardy. I urge you to honor the commitment to ban fur factory farming in Ireland in the upcoming Animal Health and Welfare Bill.

“This issue means a lot to me as I grew up in Ireland and used to wear fur. I had a change of heart when I learned how minks and foxes on fur farms are crammed into tiny, dirty cages and driven so crazy by the confinement that many self-mutilate and even cannibalize their cagemates. After several months of this agony, the animals endure a painful death by gassing or electrocution, all just to produce a frivolous product that hardly anyone wears anymore because of the social stigma that it carries. First Lady Michelle Obama played Easter Bunny last week, when she came bearing cookies from the White House to give to children at the Fisher House at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland.

Even the Obama’s dog, Bo, got in on the fun – he wore a pair of bunny ears, much to the delight of the 19 families unhand for the visit. The facility acts as a refuge for veterans and their families as they receive medical care at the hospital, and is just one of 57 Fisher House facilities across the US.

“It is always one of my favorite things to do, to come to the Fisher House,” said Michelle. “This house is a home away from home for so many of our military families.”

On Wednesday, January 25, First Lady Michelle Obama will be joined by Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack at Parklawn Elementary School in Alexandria, VA to speak with parents about USDA’s new nutrition standards for school lunches.

These new standards seek to ensure kids are offered fruits and vegetables every day of the week, increase the offerings of whole grain-rich foods, offering only fat-free or low-fat milk varieties, as well as focusing on proper portions.

Jill Biden Pens Children's Book For Charity

Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers announced today plans to publish an illustrated children’s book by Second Lady of the United States, Jill Biden. The book will be titled Don’t Forget, Nana, God Bless Our Troops and will be illustrated by award-winning artist Raul Colon.

The book will go on sale June 5, 2012.

Dr. Biden will donate all net author proceeds to charities to support military families and children, and will not accept an advance for the book. In honor of the book’s publication, Simon & Schuster will make a contribution to a charity that supports military families and children.

As part of their Joining Forces initiative, First Lady Michelle Obama and Dr. Jill Biden will visit Homestead-Miami Speedway as it hosts the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup finale, the Ford 400, and join NASCAR in honoring America’s troops and military families on November 20.

NASCAR, Mrs. Obama and Dr. Biden will recognize service members and military families from the local community at a special BBQ lunch prior to the race. Mrs. Obama and Dr. Biden will also invite a military family to join them as they serve as Grand Marshals for the championship race to lead the pre-race ceremony and offer the most famous words in racing: “Gentlemen, start your engines.”

This weekend marks ten years since the 9/11 terror attacks, and celebrities are joining the rest of the world in commemorating the anniversary.

Flight 93 National Memorial
Bill Clinton will join George W. Bush, Laura Bush and Sarah McLachlan at the September 10 dedication ceremony of the Flight 93 National Memorial in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. Beginning at approximately 9:30 a.m. The memorial service will take place at the newly-opened memorial plaza surrounding the site where Flight 93 crashed at 10:03 a.m. on September 11, 2001. President Obama is expected to visit the Flight 93 National Memorial later that day.

Pamela Anderson Writes To Royal Family In Denmark About Fur

Pamela Anderson has just sent a letter on PETA's behalf to Queen Margrethe II of Denmark over the royal family’s use of fur.

In the letter, Anderson – who heard that the Royal family gets their fur from a “trusted source” – respectfully tells Her Majesty that fur production is cruel worldwide and encourages her to join public figures such as Michelle Obama and Carla Bruni-Sarkozy in going fur-free.

“I had the great pleasure of visiting your beautiful country this month and was thrilled to hear from my friends at PETA that Denmark banned cruel fox-fur farms not long ago,” writes Pam in the letter. "During my visit, I learned that the royal family gets its fur from a “trusted source.” May I ask, who is the supplier? Undercover investigations into fur farms have shown cruelty to animals across the board, from Denmark to the United States. Most fur comes from China, where animals – including dogs and cats – are bludgeoned and even skinned alive for their fur, as seen in this short video. Minister Eva Kjer Hansen of Denmark stated, “Mink breeders break animal welfare rules. And that is unacceptable.” Animals trapped in the wild are no better off: Many suffer for hours and even chew off their own limbs to escape.
