Celebrities Design T-Shirts To Save Japan!

UNIQLO Stores, Save Japan! Project, Vogue Japan and GQ Japan have teamed up with international celebrities Lady Gaga, Nicole Kidman, Victoria Beckham, Cyndi Lauper, Orlando Bloom, Karl Lagerfeld, Charlize Theron, Blake Lively, Gwyneth Paltrow and Alber Elbaz to create a line of Save Japan! T-shirts emblazoned with messages of support for victims of the Great East Japan Earthquake that occurred on March 11.

Approximately 100 million yen raised through the sale of the Save Japan! T-shirts will be donated by UNIQLO to the Japanese Red Cross Society, which is helping with recovery efforts in affected areas in north-eastern Japan.

Stars Support Petition Against Sex Trafficking Of Children

The actress spent a couple of hours talking to around 30 sick kids and their parents.

“She is just so easy with the children and their parents … a real natural,” said a representative from the hospital. “She has done the same thing for seven years.”

Artists for Peace and Justice (APJ) has announced that it will merge with Ben Stiller’s Haitian school initiative (HSI).

The two organizations, both of whom were committed to improving living conditions in impoverished Haiti prior to the devastating earthquake, will combine their shared passion in helping build essential schools for the children of Haiti. Country singer Keith Urban spoke on the radio recently about a project he and his wife, actress Nicole Kidman, are involved in – building schools in Haiti.

“We’re going to be funding a school down there for the next five years,” he told CatCountry 96. “The kids will also have one hot meal a day. They’ll have all of their medical taken care of by the school, and clothing as well.”

Several other celebrities have joined the same Artists for Peace and Justice school building project, including Javier Bardem, Jackson Browne, Gerard Butler, Daniel Craig, Russell Crowe, Penelope Cruz, Clint Eastwood and Sean Penn, each committing $50,000 a year for the next five years. Penelope Cruz has pledged $50,000 a year to Haitian schools until 2015 – a promise that has been matched by her partner Javier Bardem.

The stars were out at the Golden Globes in Hollywood this weekend, and many used the opportunity to raise awareness of the Haitian earthquake and ask fans to dig in their pockets and donate.

“I come to Golden Globes weekend and I am really, honestly conflicted — how to have my happy movie self in the face of everything I’m aware of in the real world,” said Meryl Streep, who picked up the Best Actress accolade for Julie and Julia. "And I want to say that’s when I have my mother’s voice coming to me, saying, ‘Shoot some money to Partners in Health, put the dress on, put on a smile and be damn grateful you have the dollars to help.’ "

The star also revealed that, when the dress comes off, it will go straight to a charity auction to raise money for victims of the disaster. Gerard Butler, Josh Brolin, Olivia Wilde and Any Poehler will also donate their Awards Night outfits to the auction – beginning on eBay on January 25.

Nicole Kidman Breaks Ground To Combat Violence Against Women

Actress and Goodwill Ambassador Nicole Kidman helped to break ground on Friday on a new centre located in San Francisco to combat violence against women, part of an initiative between the United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM) and Family Violence Prevention Fund.

According to UNIFEM, data suggests that up to 70 per cent of women worldwide experience physical or sexual violence from men in their lifetime.

“There is no doubt that ending violence against women remains an urgent issue and belongs on centre stage,” says Ms. Kidman, who has served as Goodwill Ambassador for UNIFEM since January 2006.
