Joe Piscopo To Join Bryan Brothers For Charity Tennis

Legendary Saturday Night Live Alum Joe Piscopo will volunteer his time as the celebrity chair umpire for the Condor Capital Charity Open at Courtside Racquet Club on Dec. 1.

The fundraising Pro-Am tournament will benefit the Justin Gimelstob Children’s Fund, which supports children’s organizations in New Jersey and New York, as well as local high school tennis programs.

“We are absolutely thrilled that Joe Piscopo will be bringing his special talents to this exciting charitable event for children,” said Ken Schapiro, Founder and President of Condor Capital, a Martinsville investment firm. “Joe has earned critical acclaim as a comedian, singer and actor so we are happy to help him branch out into the tennis world. Sponsors will have the opportunity to meet Joe at our VIP reception so that will be a nice added benefit for our title sponsors and their guests.”

The Alta Bates Summit Foundation is proud to announce that Gigi Fernandez will participate in the 19th Annual Celebrity Tennis Classic with Martina Navratilova.

Fernandez, the multiple Grand Slam winner, Olympic Gold Medalist, and newly-inducted International Tennis Hall of Famer, will face off in what will surely be captivating exhibition matches with the most decorated player in the history of the game, and fellow International Tennis Hall of Famer, Navratilova at 2 p.m., on Saturday, October 2, 2010, at the Berkeley Tennis Club. Navratilova and Fernandez will share the day with Bay Area tennis pros and celebrities from radio, television and sports.

John McEnroe Plays Charity Tennis In Baltimore

Pam Shriver’s BCF Tennis Challenge presented by The Baltimore Sun Media Group is the longest running annual charity event in the world, so its no surprise that earlier this month the event attracted a star-studded line up of celebrities from the sports and tennis world in efforts to raise funds for the Baltimore Community Foundation.

Former world No. 1 and Tennis Hall of Famer John McEnroe joined tennis professionals Lindsay Davenport, Bob and Mike Bryan, Melanie Oudin and John Isner for Pam Shriver’s BCF Tennis Challenge, which included a World Team Tennis format and scoring.

Members of the Baltimore Orioles and Ravens also mixed it up with the tennis pros in the Orioles Challenge celebrity doubles match which was coached by several members of the Ravens.

The all-day tournament will feature the #1 doubles team in the world, Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan – aka the Bryan Brothers – with sponsored players competing throughout the day in once-in-a-lifetime doubles matches with Bay Area tennis pros and celebrities from radio, television and sports.

The “Return to Monte Carlo” Gala will be held after the Celebrity Tennis Classic at the Claremont Resort and Spa in Berkeley. Attendees will experience the thrill and excitement of casino gaming, sip some fine wine and other libations, dine on a delicious variety of international cuisine, and can participate in an exciting live auction.

Andre Agassi To Serve At Charity Match

Tennis great Andre Agassi has been confirmed to play at a charity match at the Sherwood Country Club in California in September.

The Bryan Brothers’ All-Star Tennis Smash will take place on September 27, and will benefit local and national charities. It is the first event to benefit The Bryan Brothers Foundation, an organization set up by the top-ranked doubles team of Bob and Mike Bryan, both of whom play for the US Davis Cup team and will compete at the Beijing Olympics next month.

“We were thrilled when Andre committed to play at our event,” said Bob Bryan. “On the court, he’s of course long been a hero of ours. Off the court, he’s been a mentor to us as we’ve watched him build the Andre Agassi Charitable Foundation.”
