Elijah Wood To Be Honored At Charity Gala

On January 14th, the night before the Golden Globes, The Art of Elysium will celebrate its fifth annual HEAVEN Gala, honoring Lord Of The Rings star Elijah Wood.

This fall The Art of Elysium celebrated 14 years of providing creative arts programming for hospitalized youth in Los Angeles and New York. This year’s Visionary and creative force behind HEAVEN is Cameron Silver, founder and co-owner of Decades. The organization is thrilled to unveil his idea of heaven on earth, or “elysium”, on January 14th. The charity will also recognize Elijah Wood as their 2012 Spirit of Elysium Recipient for his years of volunteerism and tireless fundraising efforts on their behalf.

Annual Charity Autumn Party Gets Massive Celebrity Support

Rochelle Gores Fredston, ARCADE Boutique and Philanthropic Society Los Angeles (PSLA) have announced they will host The 2nd Annual Autumn Party benefiting Children’s Institute, Inc. (CII) on October 26, 2011 at The London West Hollywood Rooftop.

The evening will begin with a fashion show by famed New York designer Yigal Azrouël, marking his first-ever Los Angeles show. Yigal Azrouël will present his Spring 2012 Collection. The collection combines masculinity and femininity through silhouettes that are simplistic yet architectural. Using lambskin, wool, gabardine and silk chiffon in variations of nude punctured with periodic pops of citrine, mars, and cognac, it evokes a fresh, modern ease. Following the fashion show, guests will enjoy cocktails and hors d’oeuvres while listening to music from DJ Myles Hendrik.

Poker legend Annie Duke and Life Rolls On founder, Jesse Billauer, are set to host the 1st Annual “A Night of Poker” on May 7 in Gardena California to benefit Billauer’s Life Rolls On Foundation.

Life Rolls On, a subsidiary of the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation, was founded in 1996 by Jesse Billauer. On the verge of becoming a professional surfer, Billauer suffered a spinal cord injury while surfing and was rendered a quadriplegic, Jesse’s spirit was not broken, and the phrase “Life Rolls On” was born.

Today, LRO remains dedicated to improving the quality of life for young people affected by spinal cord injury and utilizes action sports as a platform to inspire infinite possibilities despite paralysis.

Rosario Dawson Invites Celebrity Friends To Fight Immigration Laws

Rosario Dawson has brought together stars such as Eva Longoria, Wilmer Valderrama, Jessica Alba, Common, Amy Smart and Carla Gugino for a new PSA campaign to fight Arizona’s new immigration laws.

Dawson has launched the United We Win campaign through Voto Latino, an organization she co-founded in 2004. The new law – called SB 1070 – allows police to question any individuals they suspect are illegal immigrants, and all legal immigrants are required to carry registration documents at all times.

“I haven’t made it a secret that I’m strongly opposed to the Arizona law and I’ve been pretty vocal about it,” says Eva. "It’s unfortunate that this immigration issue has been on the national agenda for the past three administrations.

Held on the sand at The Jonathan Beach Club, the gala is dubbed “An Evening Under The Stars.” Nearly 1,000 guests will join together to recognize the eco-accomplishments of Oscar-winning actor Nicolas Cage, The Walt Disney Company, environmental engineer and business leader Jack Baylis, and longtime Heal the Bay boardmember and fundraiser Luann Laval Williams.

Nicole Richie attended the Environmental Media Association’s Organic Garden launch at the Helen Berstein High School in LA yesterday, May 12, to show her support of organic gardens in urban schools.

“I’ve been part of the Environmental Media Association for about 4 or 5 years now,” the 27-year-old told Hollyscoop. "Being in a school with the environment of education, it really doesn’t make sense to educate children on math, science, history and not educate them on nutrition and taking care of our planet. It seems that it is our responsibility to make sure that happens.

“What’s so great now is that it’s kind of become so popular [to go green] and it’s definitely more accessible. More people are going towards wood and glass and you can find that at Target or Walgreens, you can really find it everywhere. It’s definitely around and accessible to everyone, which is really great.”
