Celebrities Help The Environment At The Tony Awards

Home appliance leader LG Electronics USA, with assistance from stars from the stage and screen, including Tony Award winners Scarlett Johansson and Viola Davis, as well as Helen Mirren, Sean Hayes, Nathan Lane, Raquel Welch, Kristin Chenoweth and the band Green Day helped make the Great White Way “green” at the 64th Annual Tony Awards.

As the premier sponsor of The Official Talent Gift Lounge backstage at The Tony Awards, LG pledged to donate an ultra energy efficient washer and dryer to a Broadway theater in the name of each visitor to the Lounge. In cooperation with Broadway Green Alliance (BGA), LG will outfit all 45 Broadway theaters with new laundry pairs, among the most energy efficient washers on the market, to drastically reduce energy and water usage for years to come.

Forest Whitaker Gets Behind Mandela Day

Forest Whitaker joined a host of celebrities at an event yesterday to raise awareness of Mandela Day, an annual celebration of Nelson Mandela’s life and a global call to action for people to recognize their individual power to make an imprint and change the world around them.

Yesterday’s event was held in Los Angeles and was attended by stars such as Morgan Freeman, Clint Eastwood, Marisa Tomei, Sharon Stone, Noah Wyle, Alfre Woodard and Viola Davis.

Nelson Mandela has been making an imprint on the world for 67 years, beginning in 1942 when he first started to campaign for the human rights of every South African. The annual celebration is being created to inspire others to embrace Nelson Mandela’s values as they seek to improve their lives through service to their communities. 46664 and the Nelson Mandela Foundation are calling on people around the world to support the creation of an official Mandela Day, to be held annually on July 18, Mr. Mandela’s birthday.

Meryl Streep's Doubt For Actors Fund

The Actors Fund of America is holding a special screening of the movie Doubt, and invites you to join the film’s stars Meryl Streep, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Amy Adams, and Viola Davis to raise money for their cause.

Doubt – to be released in December – is based on John Patrick Stanley’s Pulitzer Prize winning play about a priest’s relationship with a black student in the 1960’s.

The screening will take place at the Paris Theatre in New York on December 7, with a special reception afterwards. Proceeds will go towards the Actors Fund’s mission to help professionals in performing arts and entertainment who are in need or crisis.
