Stars Shine For Charity At Do Something Awards

On July 19, the Hollywood Palladium was filled with more stars in one place than a usual Monday evening should for the 2010 Do Something Awards hosted by VH1 on the blue – not red, but blue – carpet.

Before the event kicked off, Melanie Stevenson from DoSomething.org streamed live and greeted celebrities, creating a Twitter craze. Tweets tagged as #DSawards were displayed across the stage on the electronic banner and questions for host Jane Lynch to answer were welcomed.

Host Jane Lynch, aka Sue Sylvester, delivered as many witty one-liners as her Glee character loves to partake in. The hilarious opening, which can be viewed on VH1 here, shows Lynch with her long list of good things to do, ending with a bang as Sue Sylvester look-alikes flooded the Palladium. Lynch then showed pictures of her very noble “acts” of public service with Mother Teresa, Lindsay Lohan, the 1929 Great Depression, and the Berlin Wall.

Megan Fox Records Funny Video With A Serious Message

Parents from the Wonderland Avenue Elementary School PTA in Los Angeles enlisted the help of actors Megan Fox, Brian Austin Green and Geoff Stults for a video aimed at blocking the nearly $2.5 billion in proposed education cuts from the California state budget, which is due for a vote at the end of April.

Set in an overcrowded classroom, “Hot For Teachers,” directed by Eric Appel (Crank Yankers, Human Giant), features ninety fifth graders, many of whom lament over the budget cuts and teacher lay-offs to Fox and Green, who star as themselves. Fox and Green confront Geoff Stults (She’s Out of My League, Wedding Crashers) who plays a representative from Governor Schwarzenegger’s office, hilariously tone-deaf to the dire needs of students.

“Megan and I were very proud to be a part of this video,” said Brian Austin Green. “It’s very funny and underscores what’s really at risk if these proposed budget cuts are passed. As a parent with a child in public school, I’ve learned you have to be very vocal about the quality of your kid’s education. And right now, a lot is at stake for California’s schools.”

Rihanna And Megan Fox Want To Help

Two of the hottest stars in Entertainment want to reach out and help those in need.

Rihanna said this week that she would like to use her experience of being beaten at the hands of rapper Chris Brown to raise awareness of domestic violence.

“The positive thing that has come out of my situation is that people can learn from that,” she said. "I want to give as much insight as I can to young women, because I feel like I represent a voice that really isn’t heard. Domestic violence is a big secret. No kid goes around and lets people know their parents fight.

Stars Support Indie Filmmaking And Social Causes At Los Angeles Film Festival

There was no shortage of stars out to support independent film at this year’s Los Angeles Film Festival in Westwood Village.

Having the festival in the area despite these trying economic times helps restaurants and other businesses reap the benefits. The film festival began on June 18 with the world premiere of The Paper Man starring Jeff Daniels and Ryan Reynolds and ended June 28th. The world premieres of Transformers and Public Enemies also took place at the festival. Fans lined the streets to see Megan Fox, Michael Bay, Christian Bale and Johnny Depp.

Despite the bigger budget film debuts, the heartbeat of the Los Angeles Film Festival is independent movies. Film Independent is a non-profit arts organization. Their mission is to champion the cause of independent film and support a community of artists who embody diversity, innovation, and uniqueness of vision.
