David Archuleta To Devote Next Two Years To Church As Missionary

David Archuleta made a very special announcement to his fans at a concert in Salt Lake City earlier this week – he will serve as a full-time Mormon missionary with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints for the next two years.

“I would like to make a special announcement: that I’ve chosen to serve a full-time mission,” David stolid his fans. "It’s not because somebody told me that I was supposed to do it, not because that I no longer want to do music anymore, but it’s because it’s the feeling that I felt that I need to do next in my life.

“It’s just the same feeling that I’ve always followed, tried to follow in my life. It’s the feeling that has allowed me to have the opportunities that I’ve had, the challenges that I’ve overcome and the blessings, too. And I’ve learned to trust that feeling, and I’ve learned that I need to answer when it calls. And that is the reason why I know I need to do this in my life.”

David Archuleta Fans Create Pathway For Charity In India

A Pathway of Hope near Chennai, India, connects an American Idol pop star with the children of leprosy-affected individuals. David Archuleta’s fans have purchased 150 engraved, granite bricks for a pathway at Rising Star Outreach campus and school, a project to raise up India’s outcast families.

The pathway and other campus buildings were dedicated recently, and Archuleta has told Becky Douglas, the founder of Rising Star Outreach, he will see her soon to walk the walk inspired by his music.

Stars Record Spanish Language Version of ‘We Are the World’

Last month in Miami, Florida, an all-star cast of the greatest Latin recording artists converged to record “Somos El Mundo” –or- "We Are The World’ – to raise funds and awareness for the continuing crisis in Haiti.

Led by Emilio Estefan and producer Quincy Jones, the Spanish language version of “We Are The World” includes a partnership with Univision Communications Inc and the non-profit We Are The World Foundation.

David Archuleta performed with Jordin Sparks at the “X the TXT” event on February 3. The concert was held at the Eden Roc Renaissance Hotel in Miami Beach, Florida.

David Archuleta is going on the road from November 27 to December 20 for his Christmas from the Heart Tour.

This 12-city tour is in support of his newly released Christmas album. He will be performing his hits, as well as some of his holiday favorites and an original piece, Melodies of Christmas.

Archuleta has teamed up with Tickets-for-Charity to offer a Charitable Sale program of great seats. Depending on the venue, with each ticket purchased there is a donation of between $20-$30 added to the price. Donations help support some of the world’s most respected charities, including Habitat For Humanity International and its work to eliminate poverty housing by providing simple, decent and affordable shelter.

David Archuleta and Angels For A Cause (AFAC) will partner with the Lisa Lopes Foundation (LLF) to help raise $10,000 to launch the new medical center in Honduras.

The Lisa Lopes Foundation medical center will serve thousands of families and children living in impoverished areas of Honduras, with health conditions among the worst in the Western Hemisphere. Honduras is the second poorest country in Central America.

An estimated 1.5 million Hondurans were without access to health care in 2008. With the highest Aids rate in Central America, the quality and access to health care are directly tied to income levels. Health care for the urban and rural poor is extremely limited.

Habitat For Humanity of Greater Los Angeles has launched an online auction at Clothes Off Our Back featuring hardhats signed by celebrity volunteers and supporters of Hollywood for Habitat for Humanity.

The hardhats are signed and decorated by music, television and film stars including: Green Day, Ricky Martin, Linkin Park, U2, Justin Timberlake, The Jonas Brothers, Carrie Underwood, Stevie Wonder and many more. The auction will run through March 6 with 100% of the proceeds helping to build more affordable homes in Greater Los Angeles.

“Through our non-profit organization, Music for Relief, and our ongoing partnership with Habitat for Humanity we have had the opportunity to not only sponsor homes, but also to go and build the houses ourselves, and to meet the families that were moving into them,” said Dave “Phoenix” Farrell of Linkin Park. “We hope this hardhat auction will raise awareness for Habitat’s mission and help raise funds for families in need.”
