Wish Kids Join ESPN This Week

What would it be like shooting baskets with a NBA champion and MVP? Or tossing the football around with a NFL receiver and quarterback? How about slapping the puck around with a NHL player or racing around the track with a NASCAR driver? Or teeing off with one of the most exciting young PGA Tour golfers? Wish kids can tell you.

Those are the sports-themed wishes granted by Make-A-Wish in collaboration with the seventh-annual ESPN “My Wish” series, which started on Sunday, July 15 and is running through the week.

The summer series profiles wishes coming true for children with life-threatening medical conditions. Each segment takes viewers on an in-depth and often emotional journey into the children’s lives, medical conditions, the wish-reveal, and the transformative experiences with their favorite athletes.

Brad Pitt Wins Four Big Daddy Awards

“The Big Daddy Awards” is the first-ever online awards show designed to honor the 70 million Fathers in America, while raising funds and awareness for prostate cancer programs and research for a cure.

The on-line award show-which ran through Fathers Day June 17, encouraged fans to vote for top celebrity dads in 33 categories and resulted in a windfall of awards for Brad Pitt.

Pitt won four awards including the “Biggest Big Daddy Of Them All” as well as the “Current Movie Big Daddy,” “Do-Gooder Big Daddy” and was voted one of three celebrities to be added to the “Movie Dad Hall of Fame.”

Big Daddy Awards Raise Prostate Cancer Awareness

On The Line, a national prostate cancer awareness campaign, has announced the nominations for the first annual 2012 “Big Daddy Awards” – from Brad Pitt to President Obama – in which fans can vote for their top celebrity dad picks in 33 categories that encompass film, television, music, comedy and sports.

The “Big Daddy Awards” is a virtual award show held exclusively online, of which the winners will be announced on Monday, June 18, the day after Father’s Day. Fans can vote for their favorite celebrity dads at www.bigdaddyawards.com now through June 17.

Wake Up With The Stars And Get Schooled

LeBron James Unveils PSA Targeting Dropouts

The U.S. Army and the Ad Council today unveiled a new television public service announcement (PSA) featuring NBA All-Star LeBron James designed to highlight the dropout crisis in America and encourage adults nationwide to motivate and inspire students in their communities.

Created pro bono by advertising agency Publicis New York, the PSA shows how the support of people in LeBron’s life motivated him to graduate, and urges adults to give students across the country the support they need to stay in school by visiting boostup.org. The PSA is being distributed nationwide this month to coincide with halfway point of the school year.

According to America’s Promise Alliance, approximately 7,000 high school students drop out every school day, which translates to one every 26 seconds in the US.

LeBron James Records PSA To Stop Dropout Crisis

LeBron James has recorded a PSA to help stop the rate of high school dropouts in the US.

Approximately 7,000 high school students drop out every school day – that’s one every 26 seconds. In an effort to raise awareness about the dropout crisis and inspire individuals to “Boost” (support) students in their communities, the U.S. Army and the Ad Council are unveiling a new series of public service advertisements (PSAs), created pro bono by advertising agency Publicis New York.

Also launching today is Boost Nation, a microsite developed in collaboration with the 26 Seconds BMOR campaign, that will facilitate the creation and sharing of video and written messages for students to view and see that people all across the country do care that they stay in school and graduate. LeBron James and Miss America 2011 Teresa Scanlan are among the first to share their video messages of support on Boost Nation.

Boys' and Girls' Clubs of America (BGCA) have announced a star-studded new Public Service Advertising (PSA) campaign, featuring 21 notable Club alumni dramatically showcasing the impact of the Boys & Girls Club experience in transforming the lives of young people.

The Great Future Start Here PSA made its debut yesterday during an event at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C.

On hand for the release of “Great Futures Start Here” was its director, Academy Award-winner Ron Howard, and Club alumnus Denzel Washington, who secured Howard’s support, along with that of producer Brian Grazer and Imagine Entertainment. The spot was filmed in June in Los Angeles.

What started as a typical day last week for two Miami-area twins quickly became a surreal experience that left one exclaiming, “I feel like a celebrity!”

In a contest led by LeBron James' longtime girlfriend, Savannah Brinson, someone in the Boys' and Girls' Club of Miami-Dade crowd was about to be selected to win a bedroom makeover, valued at $500, featuring American Signature’s HomeCourt by LeBron James Collection.

“She had her eyes closed and fingers crossed whispering ‘please let me win, please let me win’ when Savannah announced her name and all the other kids started cheering,” explained American Signature Visual Merchandising Director Robert Grimmett.

In the first ever TeenNick HALO Awards, Justin Timberlake, Hayden Panettiere, Alicia Keys and LeBron James are giving four teens “the surprise of their lives,” according to host and chairman of TeenNick, Nick Cannon.

Lebron James Donates to ONEXONE

On the season finale of the HBO hit show ‘Entourage’, NBA star LeBron James appeared as himself alongside Matt Damon as they hounded Vinnie (played by Adrian Grenier) to donate to Damon’s ONEXONE Foundation. During the last few minutes of the show, LeBron told Vinnie that he donated “$1 million” to the foundation.

But did he really?

Now, after months of speculation, LeBron James has confirmed that he did, in fact, donate one million to ONEXONE. When asked if the donation he mentioned on Entourage “was real,” LeBron said “Of course it’s real.”

Matt Damon Joins Entourage For Charity

Matt Damon will make a cameo appearance on the latest season of Entourage to promote a charity he is involved with.

“It wasn’t hard to get him,” Entourage executive producer Doug Elin told TV Guide. "Matt came on the phone with me and wanted to do something that focused on his charity, ONEXONE, which helps kids all over the world."

Damon will join NBA star LeBron James in the episode, which features Damon forcing Adrian Grenier's character to donate more to the charity than he intended to.

Jay-Z Donates Instruments To School

Rapper Jay-Z is joining together with NBA star LeBron James to donate over 150 musical instruments to a school in Arizona this week.

The pair will meet with over 200 students at Mesa Arts Academy in Mesa on Friday, February 13, to hand over the instruments – donated through a partnership with Coca Cola’s Sprite Green – and will also sign a donated piano which will permanently stay in the school’s auditorium.

“We are so delighted Sprite Green is donating instruments to the students of Mesa Arts Academy and the Boys & Girls Club,” said Ramon Elias, president of the Boys & Girls Clubs of the East Valley. “Our kids love to perform, and we know the instruments and musical equipment . . . will be a great way to motivate the kids to go to class and come to the Club after school.”

Toby Keith Raises Cash For Ally's House

The annual Toby Keith & Friends Celebrity Golf Classic in Oklahoma last week set a new record by raising $709,000 for Ally's House, a nonprofit organization that helps families dealing with childhood cancer.

Since establishing the golf tournament five years ago, country music sensation Toby Keith has raised more than $2.3 million for the charity – named after the daughter of one of Keith’s band who died from kidney cancer – and this year was no different, with more than 750 people attending the weekend of sport, music and a celebrity auction.

Auction items were donated by stars such as George Strait, Carrie Underwood, Loretta Lynn, Tom Hanks, Tiger Woods, Brett Favre, LeBron James, Andre Agassi, Tony Stewart, and Peyton Manning, although it was the chance to dine with Toby Keith himself that raised the most cash – a huge $35,000.
