Heroes actor Jimmy Jean-Louis was honored for his charity work in Haiti at the fourth annual Better World Awards in the weekend.

The Kiss The Stars gala was held at Clive Christian Beverly Hills on Sunday night, the first time the annual party has been held in the United States.

“This year, we will be awarding Film and ‘Heroes’ TV star Haitian-born Jimmy Jean-Louis the Global Humanitarian Award for his commitment to rescuing Haiti, by consistently going to his native island with volunteers and building schools,” said Gina de Franco, International Luxury Media CEO and executive co-producer of the “Kiss The Stars” gala prior to the event. “Jimmy’s dedication in helping reconstruct the education facilities in Haiti has been an ongoing one through his non-profit organization Hollywood Unites For Haiti. When the cameras left, Jimmy continued making pilgrimages all year long; by hand, brick by brick he has built new schools which will have a long term effect on the future of Haiti.”

Salma Hayek and Anna Wintour are among the celebrities taking part in this year’s “Bid to Save the Earth”.

This is the second annual green auction hosted by elite auction house, Christie’s. Last year’s event raised over $2 million for environmental groups, with items such as a round of golf with Bill Clinton going for $80,000.

This year’s auction will see artists, designers and entertainers come together to raise funds for Oceana, Conservation International, Natural Resources Defense Council and the Central Park Conservancy.

HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco and football icon Zinedine Zidane, in his capacity as Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), visited a sports community center in the municipality of Gugulethu in Cape Town, South Africa, on Saturday.

The Ikhaya Lemidadlo Sport for Development is a community center for sports activities and youth education in the municipality of Gugulethu, 14 km from Cape Town. The initiative, which was launched in 2009, resulted from a partnership between the Principality of Monaco, UNDP, the World Alliance of Cities against Poverty network and the City of Cape Town.

Monaco's Prince Albert II to Champion Environment at National Press Club

His Serene Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco will be the guest of The National Press Club in Washington, D.C., Nov. 30, where he will discuss sustainable practices undertaken by the Principality of Monaco and address the need to draw global attention to protect the marine environment.

While in the U.S. capitol, HSH Prince Albert II will attend the Antarctic Treaty Summit at the Smithsonian Museum to deliver the keynote speech commemorating the 50th anniversary of the signing of the treaty. The international agreement calls for diplomatic management of ten percent of the Earth “for peaceful purposes.”
