Dynamo Joins The Big March Against Bullying

Celebrity magician Dynamo, who first used magic as a way to deal with his own experience of bullying, has joined the world’s first global virtual march to protect children’s rights and supporting BeatBullying’s The Big March 2012 in an effort to unite the world against bullying.

Dynamo has been busy creating his avatar, joining the likes of celebrities such as Pixie Lott, Aston Merrygold and Jedward as well the avatars of an anticipated two million members of the public, that will march with signs and placards across global websites next year to deliver a petition to a virtual United Nations (UN) building in New York asking that the UN make it a child’s right to live a life free from bullying.

The Big March 2012 will be the world’s first global virtual march connecting communities from all corners of the globe in the fight against bullying and, if successful in its aim, it will mean that schools, Governments and families the world over will have more power to stop bullying from happening.

To mark the start of Anti-Bullying Week 2012, UK charity BeatBullying is mobilising hundreds of thousands of young people from around the world, together with celebrities, politicians, charities, businesses and communities to launch The Big March 2012, the world’s first global virtual march for children’s rights.

Beatbullying is calling for people around the world to support The Big March 2012, which will take place on 1st March 2012: from Manchester to Mumbai, from Naples to New Orleans, from Jerusalem to Johannesburg, and from Budapest to Brasilia.

Predicted to last up to two days, the march will culminate with the delivery of a petition to the United Nations Building in New York; asking the United Nations to explicitly enshrine ‘bullying’ in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC). This will help to protect children all over the world from the pain and distress of bullying and harassment. If successful, it will be the first time that the Convention has been updated in over 10 years.

La Toya Jackson Joins Forever Michael Tribute Lineup

With less than a week to go until the Michael Forever Tribute in Cardiff, Wales on October 8th, Michael Jackson’s sister La Toya Jackson has announced she will be among the performers.

Having put music performances behind her for almost twenty years, she has decided there is no better time to perform from her heart.

“I have put musical performance behind me for roughly two decades, but there will never be another magical moment such as this to celebrate Michael with his fans to perpetuate the importance of his legacy,” she said. “I am honoured to share the stage with the incredible performers in this line up and am certain that nothing would make my brother smile bigger or brighter than this tribute concert. In speaking with my mother yesterday, I asked her where she thinks Michael would rather have us be, in this courtroom filled with negativity and lies or on a stage celebrating his music, his legacy and his life and she said without a second of thought, ‘Celebrating his Life with family and fans. I am looking forward to putting on a great show and making my brother proud.’”

Stars Support Petition Against Sex Trafficking Of Children

ECPAT UK and The Body Shop were joined by celebrity campaign supporter Martine McCutcheon on 12th May 2011 to hand over the Stop Sex Trafficking of Children and Young People Petition to the British prime minister at 10 Downing Street.

Signed by an incredible 735,889 people – including stars such as Ricky Gervais, Sienna Miller, Nicole Kidman, and Elizabeth Hurley – the petition is the largest to be received by the coalition and calls for greater protection of child victims of trafficking. Other celebrity supporters included Matt LeBlanc, Robert Pattinson, Joanna Lumley, Yoko Ono, Naomi Campbell, Sir Ben Kingsley, Claudia Winkleman, Lily Cole, Pixie Lott and Craig David.

ECPAT UK – End Child Prostitution, Child Pornography and the Trafficking of Children for Sexual Purposes – is active in research, campaigning and lobbying government to prevent child exploitation and protect children in tourism and child victims of trafficking. Annie Lennox Performs At Celebrity Charity Shop Launch

Annie Lennox helped launch the Oxfam Celebrity Charity Curiosity Shop at Selfridges in London on Thursday, performing 4 songs and raising over £31,000 by allowing the audience to bid for each performance.

The launch event raised a grand total of £208,985 for Oxfam circle projects around the world that empower women and really make a difference.

For ten days only, The Oxfam Curiosity Shop will sell celebrity fashion donations, sought-after samples and vintage clothing hand-picked from Oxfam’s 700 shops. There will also be celebrity styling sessions, plus special VIP appearances.

Bullying. It’s just a part of life, right? Whatever your size, shape or sexuality, chances are you’ve been bullied, or you will be, at some point in your life. Bullying has just been accepted as a rite of passage, until now. Recently, more and more celebrities have been backing anti-bullying campaigns and lending their voices to an important cause.

Bullying can take many forms, but no one form is any less damaging than another. Regardless of the method, it knocks your self-esteem and sends your confidence plummeting. More recently, there has been a spate of children, teenagers and young adults who have felt so low and lost that they have taken their own lives. These deaths have all been caused by bullying, in forms ranging from playground name-calling to cyber-bullying.

Recognizing that this has to stop, action is being taken across the globe. November’s Anti-Bullying Week saw celebrities including Pixie Lott, Justin Bieber, Alesha Dixon and Twiggy take part in various anti-bullying campaigns including “The Big March”, and a six-week long BBC campaign. Jim Carrey has also spoken out after his role in a recent film, which features a convict who finds his same-sex soulmate in jail. Appalled by the growing trend of bullying gay teenagers, he has declared bullying “an old and antiquated way of thinking” that has no place in modern society, and has added his weight to anti-bullying campaigns worldwide by saying that “anyone who bullies anybody for any reason is no friend of [his]”.

Pixie Lott Donates Song To Charity To Beat Bullying

Singer Pixie Lott has donated her anti-bullying anthem ‘Get Weak,’ penned about the pressures of bullying, to raise awareness of BeatBullying’s The Big March.

In her new role as ambassador for the charity, Pixie has created a virtual representation of herself – an avatar complete with her trade mark platinum blonde hair and big hazel eyes – which will join 400,000 other supporters on the pioneering protest march. Pixie’s avatar also stars in a poignant music video to accompany the track.

Robbie Williams Helps Heroes At Charity Concert

Take That stars Robbie Williams and Gary Barlow reunited on stage for charity in the UK during the weekend.

The pair performed their new single, Shame, in front of 60,000 people – including Prince Harry – at the massive Help for Heroes concert at Twickenham on September 12.

The stars were joined by Tom Jones, James Blunt, Enrique Iglesias, Alexandra Burke, Pixie Lott, Plan B and The Saturdays. The show was hosted by the best of the UK’s comedy talent – John Bishop, Kevin Bridges, Jack Dee, Jason Manford and Michael McIntyre – with a special guest appearance from Bruce Forsyth. Other acts who performed included Katherine Jenkins with Spelbound, Alesha Dixon and The Wanted. The concert was shown on BBC 1 and the coverage was presented by Cat Deeley.

More Stars Lend Help For Heroes At Charity Concert

More stars have been added to the lineup of the Help for Heroes charity concert being headlined by Robbie Williams at Twickenham Stadium on September 12.

British Stars To Walk Inca Trail For Charity, And So Can You

British celebrities Denise van Outen and Fearne Cotton are to hit the rough paths for charity again – this time for a trek through the Inca Trail.

The pair were part of a group of famous faces who scaled Mt Kilimanjaro last year for Comic Relief, and now they’re pulling on their hiking boots once more – this time for Breast Cancer Care. Along with Alexandra Burke, Pixie Lott, Holly Willoughby and Abbey Clancy, the stars will head to South America in September.

“The Inca trek is something I have always wanted to do – Fearne and I had the idea a while ago and we’re excited that the other girls have signed up,” Denise told The Daily Mirror in the UK. “Ever since we climbed Kili we have been looking for a new challenge.”

The campaign, developed by GlaxoSmithKline, is being run in association with Jo’s Trust, the UK charity dedicated to cervical cancer, and is supported by the Royal College of Nursing and Wellbeing of Women.

The Sugababes will headline a show for charity later this month.

The British girl band will join Pixie Lott, La Roux and Paloma Faith for a music and fashion extravaganza in London on January 27.
