More Performers Added To VH1 Divas Show

VH1 Divas – benefiting the Save The Music Foundation – has announced additional performers to join this year’s tribute to soul music.

Chaka Khan, Erykah Badu, Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings, Boyz II Men, Estelle, Marsha Ambrosius and Travie McCoy will join VH1’s “divas” in paying homage to these cities and soul music’s timeless classics at New York City’s Hammerstein Ballroom. Faith Hill and husband Tim McGraw were awarded for their charity work at a special celebrity-studded event earlier this week.

The couple were presented with the Country Radio Broadcasters’ Artist Humanitarian Award at the Country Radio Seminar at the Nashville Convention Center on Wednesday, March 2, in recognition of the work they do for those in need.

“Being honoured for our humanitarian work, while incredibly humbling, is also bittersweet for us because it comes at the expense of others who are suffering through hard times,” said Faith. “People just like us – with families, brothers, sisters, children and friends – need our help. People with or without homes, with or without jobs, with or without families, the fact is that uncontrollable and unforeseen disasters are not discriminating.”

Music and film star Tim McGraw will take to Atlanta’s stage on October 2 to accept the True Ally Award at the 2010 Men Stopping Violence Annual Awards Dinner.

The Men Stopping Violence Annual Awards Dinner recognizes individuals who have dedicated time and resources to fostering safety and justice for women. The dinner is the primary annual fundraiser for Men Stopping Violence. Award-winning playwright Pearl Cleage will receive The Kathleen Carlin Justice Seekers Award, named for the founding executive director of Men Stopping Violence. McGraw and Herman “Skip” Mason Jr., author, historian and president of the Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity, will accept the True Ally Awards, which recognize men of conscience–allies who use their influence to advocate for safety, equality and respect for women and girls. Dr. Frank Ostrowski will receive posthumously the Dick Bathrick Activist Award, given to a man who has demonstrated outstanding leadership in the work to end violence against women. Ostrowski co-founded Alternatives to Violent Acts, a precursor to the Men Stopping Violence organization.

Academy Of Country Music Donates To Charity

The Academy of Country Music has announced a $1 million endowment to ACM Lifting Lives, made on behalf of the artists who participated in the taping of ACM Presents: Brooks & Dunn – The Last Rodeo in Las Vegas in May.

Ticket proceeds from the taping went to ACM Lifting Lives, which in turn quickly earmarked funding for those affected by the recent floods in Middle Tennessee. The gift successfully completes a three-year funding commitment and fundraising campaign the Academy initiated in 2008.

Honorees Brooks & Dunn along with Jason Aldean, Kenny Chesney, Faith Hill, Jennifer Hudson, Lady Antebellum, Miranda Lambert, Reba McEntire, Tim McGraw, Brad Paisley, Rascal Flatts, Darius Rucker, George Strait, Sugarland, Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood and Keith Urban all participated in the taping, with more than 10 million viewers tuning in to the special on CBS on May 23.

Faith Hill and Tim McGraw announced on Monday that they are planning a massive benefit concert to be held at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville next month.

“On Tuesday, June 22nd, the Music City community will unite to assist victims of the floods that ravaged Nashville and Middle Tennessee earlier this month,” said the pair. “The damage that we’ve seen to people’s homes and the effect that the flooding has had on their lives is unimaginable. But we’ve seen the spirit of our community first hand, as volunteers, church groups and our local business leaders rally to help.”

Eagles singer Glenn Frey acted as honorary chairman for the 2010 grand auction to benefit the Boys’ and Girls’ Club of Coachella Valley on Saturday, March 13, at the Hyatt Grand Champions Resort in Indian Wells, California.

“I’ve been helping kids — at-risk kids — for a long time,” he told The Desert Sun last week. “Thirty years. It seems like now times are even more troubled for young people.”

The rock legend first became active in children’s charities in the 1990s, when he started hosting inner-city kids in Colorado each summer.

The pair were awarded the Courage Award for their work in setting up the Tug McGraw Foundation – after Tim’s father, who died of cancer – and their work raising funds for cancer research.

“Cancer took the life of my father-in-law,” said Faith Hill. “He was a brave man during his fight towards the end. His wish was to create an organisation that provided a better way of life for cancer patients and money towards research.”

Dave Stewart Donates Suit To Charity Auction

Musician Dave Stewart has donated the suit he wore when he accepted the Awards for Outstanding Contribution to British Music for Eurythmics (Silver Clefs Award by the Nordoff Robbins Foundation) in 2000 to the world’s leading Eurythmics fan site for a charity competition.

Ethrill.net has been collecting rare items like lithographs and deluxe books, limited vinyl and much more from fans of the band to give away as part of the anniversary of Annie Lennox’s SING Campaign to help prevent the spread of HIV in South Africa, where 1,000 people die from AIDS-related causes every day. ABC’s Dancing with the Stars judge and iParticipate celebrity ambassador Carrie Ann Inaba donated her time – along with 50-plus volunteers – for a day of service at the Three Square Food Bank in Las Vegas on Wednesday, October 21.

The event was part of the iParticipate initiative that Look To The Stars reported on earlier this week, in which celebrities such as Michelle Obama, Blythe Danner, Morgan Freeman, Faith Hill, Matthew McConaughey, Gwyneth Paltrow, Simon Baker (CBS’ The Mentalist), Emily Deschanel (FOX’s Bones), Eva Longoria Parker (ABC’s Desperate Housewives), Julia Louis Dreyfus (CBS’ The New Adventures of Old Christine), Masi Oka (NBC’s Heroes), Michael Strahan (FOX’s Brothers), Kate Walsh (ABC’s Private Practice) and Rainn Wilson (NBC’s The Office) have joined with the Entertainment Industry Foundation to encourage people to volunteer for good causes.   

Inaba joined her fellow volunteers in sorting and packaging food for distribution to needy residents of Southern Nevada. Three Square is the only food bank in Las Vegas and prepares more than 8 million meals annually for underprivileged families.

Keith Urban Gives All For The Hall

Some of the biggest names in country music will hit the stage in October to raise money for the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum.

Keith Urban, Taylor Swift, Vince Gill, Faith Hill, Jason Aldean, Lady Antebellum and Little Big Town are just some of the names who will appear at the All For The Hall show on October 13 at the Sommet Center in Nashville.

The Hall of Fame and Museum is operated by the Country Music Foundation, a non-profit educational organization chartered by the state of Tennessee in 1964. The Museum’s mission is the preservation of the history of country and related vernacular music rooted in southern culture.

VH1 Divas To Return For Charity

After a four-year hiatus, VH1 will bring back the legendary live concert event “VH1 Divas” by featuring some of pop music’s most talented female artists – Adele, Kelly Clarkson, Leona Lewis and Miley Cyrus. The “VH1 Divas” concert will be televised live on VH1 on Thursday, September 17 at 9:00pm.

Proceeds from the show will go to VH1’s Save The Music Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of education in America’s public schools by restoring music programs in cities across the country, and raising public awareness about the importance of music participation for our nation’s youth. Singer Annie Lennox was in Norway last week to host a special event that aimed to raise money and awareness for the SING Campaign against AIDS.

The singer performed in Oslo on May 15 at an event in which guests were required to make a minimum donation of NOK 1,000 to the SING Campaign in order to redeem an invite.

Nashville To Rock For Africa

Some of country music’s biggest stars will appear at a concert in Nashville tomorrow, April 22, to raise funds for education in Africa.

Keith Urban, Faith Hill, Dierks Bentley, Brad Arnold from 3 Doors Down, and Big Kenny will join Damien Horne, Ashley Cleveland, Third Day, Jars Of Clay and many more at the Nashville4Africa concert, to be held at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center.

Singer Annie Lennox has just released her new Greatest Hits collection in the US and has used the occasion to raise awareness of a new campaign being run by SING, an initiative she established to bring attention to AIDS/HIV in Africa.

Over the next few weeks and months, SING will be telling the stories of four women in Africa who are currently living their lives and raising their families whilst dealing with the effects of HIV/AIDS.

Neil Diamond MusiCares Concert Is A "Double-Whammy"

Neil Diamond will be honored as MusiCares Person Of The Year later tonight – Friday, February 6 – in a concert celebrating his music and humanitarian spirit.

Heading up the list of performers set to join the music legend on stage at the Los Angeles Convention Centre are Kid Rock and British band Coldplay. Also on the agenda are the Foo Fighters, Jennifer Hudson, Jonas Brothers, Josh Groban and Faith Hill.

“It’s a double-whammy,” Diamond joked to the Associated Press. “I get a chance to help raise a lot of money and a little plaque that says, ‘Hey, you’re OK.’”
