Stars Come Out Around The World For ICAP Charity Day

ICAP, the world’s leading interdealer broker, raised a record $20 million (£12.75 million) worldwide on its 19th annual Charity Day, this week. This brings the total amount raised through the ICAP Charity Day, which started in 1993, to $139 million (£89.35 million).

In New York, Oprah Winfrey, Derek Jeter and Jessica Alba were just a few of the stars to visit ICAP’s offices to trade with customers in support of their charities – see some great photos of the trio here. The London office was also joined by Lewis Hamilton, Rod Stewart and Penny Lancaster. Former President S R Nathan visited the Singapore office while Kevin Spacey attended in Sydney. Events were held in more than 60 offices worldwide.

In London, ICAP was honored to be joined by Her Royal Highness, The Duchess of Cornwall, in support of the charity Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centres, of which The Duchess is Patron. The Duchess of Cornwall brokered several trades including one of $27 billion/€20 billion, the largest foreign exchange trade ever, between Barclays and Citigroup.

Boyzone Singer To Host Celebrity Charity Golf

The famous Irish singer-songwriter and Boyzone star, Mikey Graham, has been unveiled as the host of a glamorous celebrity golf tournament set to take place in Scotland later this year.

The Caudwell Children Celebrity Golf Classic will take place at the World-famous Carrick Golf Course on the banks of Loch Lomond between September 29th and October 1st and will raise funds for national charity, Caudwell Children.

A private dinner for friends and associates of philanthropist, John Caudwell, has raised over £1.5 million for the charity he founded.

The Caudwell Children Butterfly Benefit took place on Thursday, 12 May at The Banqueting House in Whitehall for just 200 guests. The audience enjoyed a six-course gourmet taster menu and entertainment from Robbie Williams and Robin Gibb. BBC TV presenter, Alex Winters, was the guest host for the evening.

BGC Charity Day 2010 Attracts Celebrity Brokers

Stars around the world raised charity cash yesterday, September 13, as part of the BGC Charity Day.

Celebrity brokers’ helped raise money by conducting real trades with BGC’s clients (the major banks and investment banks) over the phone from the trading floor (alongside a licensed broker). From these trades, worth millions of dollars in bonds, foreign exchange, derivatives and other products, BGC aimed to surpass last year’s total of $10 million globally, which brought the five-year total raised on BGC’s Charity Day to $33 million.

BGC Partners was created as Cantor Fitzgerald re-built following the World Trade Center attacks. Cantor was the worst hit company on 9/11, losing 658 of its employees – two thirds of its workforce at the time. To commemorate those who were lost on the day, every year on September 11, BGC’s revenues are distributed to dozens of charities around the world.

Penny Lancaster Stewart Walks For Breast Cancer Charity

Penny Lancaster Stewart – the wife of rocker Rod Stewart – was among 1,100 walkers to take part in Breast Cancer Care’s charity walk in Oxfordshire, UK, on Saturday.

The event is held annually in four different locations around the UK, with participants donning pink clothes and walking either 10 or 20 miles. Saturday’s walk follows similar events in South Downs and Perthshire earlier this month. June 5 will see the fourth and final event for the year in Yorkshire.

The events have raised over £4.5 million since the first walk in 2005, with funds going to the 1.7 million cancer sufferers assisted by the charity each year.

Rockin’ Rod Stewart joined his model wife Penny Lancaster on a special fundraising walk for Breast Cancer Care in Britain during the weekend.

The 10-mile Ribbon Walk took place around Blenheim Palace, Oxfordshire – birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill – and attracted hundreds of walkers who took on 10 and 20-mile fundraising walks.

“Ribbon Walk is special because you are raising money for the helpline and support sessions for everyone affected by this disease,” said Penny Lancaster.

Bryan Adams has played at an auction gala event that raised over £1 million (US$1 million) for the Prince’s Trust.

The Prince’s Trust Invest in Futures Gala Dinner and Charity Auction was hosted by Ben Elton at Old Billingsgate, east London, over the weekend, and featured lots such as tea at The Ritz with Rod Stewart and Penny Lancaster, a flight with The Red Arrows, artworks by Prince Charles, a chance to meet Donatella Versace at Milan Fashion Week, and the opportunity to meet Simon Cowell and Cheryl Cole during an X Factor taping.

All Saints singer Melanie Blatt has been crowned Celebrity Spectacle Wearer of 2008 at an awards ceremony in London.

The Specsavers Spectacle Wearer of the Year Awards – held at the Waldorf Hilton – saw some of Britain’s biggest spectacle wearing celebrities gather to raise funds for Kidscape, the first charity in the UK established specifically to prevent bullying and child sexual abuse.

“It’s… really important to demonstrate to children that glasses are cool as so many children are still bullied about wearing glasses,” said Blatt, who had to start wearing glasses when her eyesight deteriorated after the birth of her daughter in 1998. “I love to wear my specs to make a style statement, daytime and evening, and have a wardrobe of frames for different outfits and looks. I just pop my glasses on and I feel transformed. There are many iconic male specs wearers out there, like David Tennant and Alan Carr, but you don’t see many females who wear their glasses in such an obvious and public way.”

In support of British animal charity PDSA, model Penny Lancaster has applied her photography training in order to shoot a photo calendar of celebrities with their pets.

Among the celebrities featured in “Pet Pawtraits” are Elton John and Lancaster’s fiancé — veteran pop-rocker Rod Stewart. Most were photographed in their own homes, and the photos will be displayed at the Mall Galleries in London. Original prints can be bought online via eBay.

The PDSA is the UK’s largest veterinary charity, providing free treatment to over 4650 sick and injured animals every working day.
