Celebrity Guitar Picks Auctioned For Charity

A group of musicians have donated their guitar plectrums to a very special celebrity charity auction.

The auction includes guitar picks donated by stars such as Mark Ronson, Paul Weller, Keith Richards, Ronnie Wood, Depeche Mode, Coldplay, Duran Duran, Emmylou Harris, James Blunt, Dave Stewart, Paramore, Jamie Cullum, Razorlight and many more.

The auction will benefit two very important charities – Trekstock, which supports young people with cancer, and LIFEbeat, which educates young people about HIV/AIDS prevention.

Rock Legends To Jam For Charity

A truly unique evening of rock’n’roll with music legends Rick Wakeman, Jon Lord, Joe Bonamassa, Newton Faulkner and members of Deep Purple joining together to raise money for charity will take place at the Royal Albert Hall on July 8.

Proceeds from the show will benefit The Sunflower Jam. Set up in 2006 by Jacky Paice (wife of Deep Purple’s Ian Paice), The Sunflower Jam came about in the first place to carry the torch for integrated and functional medicine, and does so by supporting initiatives set up to bridge the gap between integrated, functional and conventional medicine.

Super Jam 2011 will be the charity’s biggest event to date and will help to increase the already raised funds from past events – which have included guest performances by the likes of Status Quo, Paul Weller, Robert Plant, Ray Cooper, Bruce Dickinson, Suggs, the late great Gary Moore, and Jeremy Irons as MC.

Liam Gallagher's Beady Eye Records Beatle Song For Japan

Liam Gallagher and his band, Beady Eye, closed their celebrity charity concert for Japan in London last week with a special rendition of The Beatle’s Across The Universe, and have now recorded the song to raise further money for victims of the Japanese tsunami disaster.

Liam and his band were joined at the concert at Brixton Academy by Paul Weller, Blur’s Graham Coxon, Primal Scream, Richard Ashcroft and many others, with a crowd of approximately 5000 raising £150,000 for the British Red Cross.

“It’s not just because we’re popular in Japan,” Liam explained to The Independent prior to the gig. “As a human, you just think it’s heavy. We’ve always had close ties with Japan and great affection for our fans out there. Our hope is that this benefit concert can help the people of Japan.”

Former Oasis star Liam Gallagher will perform with his new band, Beady Eye, at a special celebrity charity gig in London next month to raise money for victims of Japan’s tsunami.

Beady Eye will be joined by Paul Weller, Primal Scream, Richard Ashcroft and Blur’s Graham Coxon. Blur’s Damon Albarn is also rumored to perform, and Primal Scream will be joined by Sex Pistols legend Glen Matlock.

“Liam has been shocked by the footage of the devastation in Japan,” reports Britain’s The Sun newspaper. "Oasis were, and still are, hugely popular out there. The band have always been treated like kings so he wants to do his bit.

Damien Hirst Puts The Squeeze On Charity

An exclusive set of instruments customized by Damien Hirst and created especially for British band Squeeze, will take centre stage when the band perform at Concerts for Teenage Cancer Trust at the Royal Albert Hall on 22 March 2011.

Squeeze will be joined by a 30 piece orchestra and long-time friends and collaborators The Feeling, on the second night of Teenage Cancer Trust’s 2011 series of fundraising concerts at the iconic venue. 

 The Damien Hirst collection features two ‘Spot Guitars’, a Fender Telecaster and a Fender Stratocaster, as well as a Yamaha ‘Spot Drum Kit’. All the instruments are hand painted by Hirst with his iconic spot design and signed by the artist himself.

A host of stars have been photographed with their favorite foods and drinks for a new celebrity charity book due out this year.

Love Music, Love Food will feature stars such as Paul Weller (photographed with a latte), Noel Gallagher (a cup of tea), and The Killers’ Brandon Flowers (a mexican meal).

Proceeds from the book will go to the Teenage Cancer Trust, a British charity that focuses on the needs of teenagers and young adults with cancer, leukaemia, Hodgkin’s and related diseases. TCT’s top priority is building units in NHS hospitals specifically for teenagers with cancer. As well as superior medical facilities, these units are equipped with day rooms, kitchens and chill-out rooms where teenagers can relax and feel at home or have friends and family to visit in a comfortable environment. There are computers with internet access, pool tables, playstations, satellite TV, musical instruments, and other things teenagers might like to occupy their time with, or share with friends. Most importantly, the units provide an environment where teenagers can meet others in a similar situation and allow patients to build friendships and mechanisms to cope with their disease.

A host of some of rock music’s legendary guitarists and singers have signed a special guitar for a celebrity charity auction later this month in London.

Queen’s Brian May and Pink Floyd’s David Gilmour have added their autographs to those of Jimmy Page, Keith Richards, Roger Daltrey, Paul Weller, Eric Clapton and Gary Moore on the PUP AID Epiphone Casino Guitar donated by Liam Gallagher, which will go under the hammer at Bonham’s auction house on December 15.

The Nordoff Robbins annual star-studded 02 Silver Clef Awards is set to rock The Hilton, Park Lane in London as multi-platinum, multi award-winning Devon rock act Muse will be awarded the coveted 02 Silver Clef Award.

This year’s 35th infamous awards luncheon held to raise money for Nordoff Robbins will be hosted by British music mogul Sharon Osbourne. The event will take place on Friday 2nd July and will be attended by guests including the music industry’s high fliers, artists, celebrities and supporters of Nordoff Robbins. Also being honored are boyband JLS and Scouting For Girls.

It's Snow Patrol Versus Cancer At Charity Gig

British band Snow Patrol will headline a very special charity gig in Manchester in December.

The band is the latest group to sign on for the show – organized by The Smiths’ Andy Rourke – to benefit Versus Cancer, a charity dedicated to making a difference to people suffering from cancer, both in the UK and around the world.

The concert is the latest in a series of concerts organized by the charity. The organization has been behind performances from the likes of Noel Gallagher, Paul Weller, New Order, Ian Brown, The Happy Mondays, The Fun Lovin Criminals, The Enemy and The Fratelli’s and have instigated partial Smiths and Stone Roses reunions.

Take That Wins Award And Donates To Charity

British boy band Take That has made a major donation to charity following winning a coveted award during the weekend.

Singer Gary Barlow announced they would be giving £50,000 to Nordoff Robbins, the UK’s leading independent provider of music therapy service, after they took home their second Silver Clef award at the Intercontinental Hotel in London on Friday.

Hosted by Denise Van Outen, this year’s Silver Clef event raised more than £400,000 for the charity. As well as some memorable performances, the event featured an auction of one-off music memorabilia items, including a one-off Mini Cooper designed by former Silver Clef recipient Paul Weller, and a £10 note signed by Take That that was sold for £2,000. The annual event has raised over £7.5m for Nordoff Robbins over the years.

Paul Weller To Play Charity Concert For The Rainforests

Former frontman of The Jam, Paul Weller, is to play a special gig in support of Prince Charles’ The Prince’s Rainforests Project.

The concert, to take place on July 10, will be held at Cornwall’s Eden Project in the UK. Designed as an environmental education facility, the Eden Project consists of a number of domes that house plant species from around the world, each dome emulating a natural biome. The Prince’s Rainforests Project aims to encourage collective action in the fight against climate change.

The former frontman of The Jam and Style Council will join Lemar and singer songwriter Paulo Nutini at Cancer Research UK’s ‘Sound and Vision’ event at London’s Abbey Road studios on February 26.

"Modfather" Paul Weller Launches Guitar Campaign

Former Jam singer Paul Weller has launched a campaign to build giant guitars for charity.

The Gibson GuitarTown exhibition will build 30 guitar sculptures across London by next summer, ready for 12 weeks of display beginning on 1st June 2007. Each sculpture will be designed and endorsed by famous musicians, including Queen guitarist Brian May.

All 30 Gibson Les Paul guitars will later be auctioned off for The Prince’s Trust, Nordoff Robbins and the Teenage Cancer Trust.
