Will Ferrell will once again host the annual Cancer For College Golf Classic in September.

Last year’s golf tournament raised over $200,000 for the charity, established by the actor’s friend Craig Pollard.

Cancer for College began with a business plan Pollard wrote up during senior year at University. It was established in 1993 to provide college scholarships to current and former cancer patients. In February 2006, Pollard himself was hospitalized when a bacterial blood infection forced doctors to put him in a sedated coma for 3 weeks. Consequent blood circulation problems led to the amputation of both legs below the knees. After this ordeal, Pollard extended the scholarships to include amputees.

Actress Kristen Bell has launched a charity initiative that supports The Humane Society on an up-and-coming social networking fundraising site for youth.

The charity initiative project, called the “Special Needs” project, aims to rescue cats and dogs from extreme situations.

Kristen Bell started working with Special Needs animals five years ago. She was inspired to work for them following an experience while volunteering at the Helen Woodward Center, an animal shelter in California. At Woodward, Bell met a dog named Sadie. Sadie was in serious condition, missing most of her teeth and requiring ear surgery to reroute her ear canal to the side of her neck. Since meeting Sadie, Kristen made a vow to save animals like Sadie from harsh conditions and disasters.

Recently named U.N. goodwill ambassador and nominated for a DoSomething.org Award, actor Edward Norton initiated Crowdrise.com earlier this year, an online social network that encourages youth to fundraise for causes they care about.

Crowdrise.com hosts a community where anyone can create a free personal or charity account. It features opportunities to start and share fundraising projects as well as donate or vote for other projects, with the added pizazz of earning points for actions taken. For every one dollar that a member raises or gives, there will be a reward of ten points. As points accumulate, they could be turned in for prizes, though the prizes are yet to be revealed.

Norton was inspired by the admirable success of an online campaign for the Maasai Wilderness Conservation Trust. Crowdrise.com’s trademark is as simple as it appears to be. It doesn’t root for any particular cause, but instead, embraces all types and focuses more on pushing the public to simply just give.

The US Campaign for Burma has announced that a video by actor Will Ferrell is kicking off a 30-day campaign to help the campaign build one million voices of support for human rights and democracy in Burma.   

Every day for 30 days you will be able to tune into the campaign’s website www.uscampaignforburma.org or www.burmaitcantwait.org (or YouTube, Myspace, and many more sites) to watch a new celebrity video about Burma. Instead of watching one single video with limited information, viewers will be able to learn a great deal about the people of Burma’s courageous struggle for human rights and democracy. Each video is different — some are deadly serious while others have a light touch. Most of these are meant to be different than a typical public service announcement — more like a short movie or skit.

On Saturday, February 20, Will Ferrell and a handful of others hit the stage for a comedy filled night for the charity A Better LA.

Comedians such as Tenacious D, Nick Swardson, Flight Of The Conchords’ Demetri Martin, Rob Riggle, John C. Reilly, Tim and Eric from Adult Swim and Aubrey Plaza joined Ferrell to raise money to protect youth from violence in the LA area. Most of the comedians tickled everyone’s funny bone with their stand-up comedy, but Tenacious D and Will Ferrell went a different route. Jack Black and Kyle Glass serenaded the crowd and Ferrell ended the show by letting his backside hang out while he sported a snuggie.

Will Ferrell And Jordin Sparks Join Up For Charity Tennis

The United States Tennis Association has announced that Will Ferrell and multi-award winner and platinum-selling artist Jordin Sparks will team with former US Open champion Andy Roddick and additional superstar players for the 14th annual Arthur Ashe Kids’ Day.

The popular full-day tennis and music festival for children and families – including interactive games, musical entertainment and tennis clinics – will be hosted by television personalities Susie Castillo and Quddus. The festivities are set for Saturday, August 29 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y., from 9:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. The tennis and music festival kicks off the 2009 US Open, which runs from August 31 – September 13.

From 9:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. kids and families can experience an exciting schedule of interactive tennis games, music and attractions taking place throughout the grounds of the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. Will Ferrell Plays Tennis For Swedish School Charity

On May 2, actor Will Ferrell joined Swedish tennis champion Mats Wilander, Rainn Wilson and Justin Gimelstob for the K-Swiss Global Tennis Showdown in Los Angeles to benefit the Swedish School of LA.

The event kicked off with a humorous tennis match between Ferrell and Wilander – in which Wilander prevailed – and afterwards, guest enjoyed a delicious barbeque and silent auction while taking in a performance from the Dan Band – best known for their performances in the films ‘Old School’ and ‘Wedding Crashers’.

The K-Swiss Global Tennis Showdown in L.A. to benefit the Swedish School of Los Angeles raised more than $50,000.
