The Blues Brothers Are On A Mission For Charity

Legendary R&B soul revivalists, Elwood Blues and Zee Blues, have announced their first public performance in over two decades! Yes, The Blues Brothers will take the stage with the Sacred Hearts Band on February 7 in Atlanta for the Blues Brothers Formal Classic Revue – On a Mission From G-d Charity Event and Live Show.

The Blues Brothers Band features original member Dan Aykroyd as Elwood Blues and Jim Belushi as Zee Blues (Belushi’s late older brother John was Jake Blues in the original lineup). During the show, there will be a silent auction, or fans can bid by visiting the auction on-line to score such items as a five-day Caribbean getaway, tickets to Season 8 of Fox’s “American Idol,” tickets to “The Daily Show With Jon Stewart,” an autographed R.E.M. guitar, an autographed Dan Marino jersey and autographed official Blues Brothers memorabilia.

Proceeds from the show/auction will go to Hillels of Georgia, a multi-campus culture and lifestyle student organization. Tickets are $55-$75. Special VIP tickets are $180-$1,000, which includes VIP seating, green room access and Blues Brothers merchandise.

Comedy Celebration To Raise Money For Myeloma Research

Ray Romano is set to host the International Myeloma Foundation’s second annual Comedy Celebration tomorrow night, November 15.

The event will kick off at 6pm at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre and Club on South Lucerne Boulevard with a cocktail reception and silent auction, with the comedy show starting at 8pm. The evening promises to deliver hilarious performances from Patricia Heaton, Jeff Garlin, Kevin James, Robert Klein, Doris Roberts, and Fred Willard, and will also feature the original one-and-only Blues Brothers – AKA Dan Aykroyd and Jim Belushi.

Proceeds from the evening will go to the Peter Boyle Memorial Fund at the International Myeloma Foundation, dedicated to fighting the deadly cancer of the bone marrow for which there is currently no known cure.

Honorary chairs of the event include Alec and William Baldwin, Halle Berry, Candice Bergen, Kim Cattrall, Ted Danson, Mariska Hargitay, Ethan Hawke, Michael Keaton, Robin Leach, Bette Midler, and many others.

Lint Roller Party Picks Up Big Names

An impressive list of stars will be turning into party animals at the newly restored Hollywood Palladium on Thursday, November 13th, for the 15th annual Lint Roller Party.

Lisa Edelstein along with Eric and Tania Idle are Honorary Co-Chairs for the night, which supports the Best Friends Animal Society. The party’s honorary committee includes animal lovers such as Adrian Grenier, Charlize Theron, Nicollette Sheridan, Bill Maher, Dan Aykroyd and Willie Nelson, to name but a few.

The event raises funds for the Society’s programs in LA, which improve and save the lives of animals, including: A Puppy-Store-Free LA, Pet Adoption Festivals, Date with a Dog, Indie Rescue, Catnippers, Best Friends Brigade, Pup My Ride Transport Program.

A Founders’ Reception starts the event off at 6, with the party beginning in earnest at 7 P.M. Guests will enjoy an evening of celebrity presenters, live entertainment, live and silent auctions, special guests, an open bar and great veggie food, as well as meet some of the Founders of Best Friends and the stars of National Geographic Channel’s hit series DOGTOWN.

Emmylou Harris will be the feature entertainer for the evening, with the gourmet dinner cooked up by Wolfgang Puck Catering. Those taking part in the auction could win getaways, walk-on-parts, premiere tickets, jewelry, sports and hollywood memorabilia and fine art, among other items. An online auction is currently being held on eBay, which includes autographed items, such as one of Muhammad Ali’s boxing gloves, Simspons and Star Wars memorabilia, and one lucky person will win a walk on part in a Clint Eastwood film.

Stars Paint Dogs For Parade And Auction

Let loose the dogs of charity this Monday, October 13, as 25 life-sized fiberglass canines decorated by celebrities are paraded through the streets of New York.

The creations will be aboard a float in the annual Columbus Day parade, and will then be sold off in an online charity auction. Among the stars who have donated their artistic talents are Richard Gere, Chevy Chase, Glenn Close, Robert Kennedy Jr., Paul Shaffer, Martha Stewart, Vanessa Williams, Stanley Tucci, Cyndi Lauper, Rachael Ray, Robin Quivers, Dan Aykroyd, and Jane Goodall.

The auction – which will run until November 1 – will benefit Green Chimneys, an organization that operates a special education school, a residential treatment center for children, and a farm and wildlife rehabilitation center in Brewster.

The Blues Mobile Comes to the Beach

The Blues Brothers gave a live, oceanside performance last week at the Celebration Of The Sea Music & Film Festival. Jake and Elwood Blues, the only performers officially sanctioned by original Blues Brother Dan Aykroyd and the John Belushi Estate, arrived in the Blues Mobile and performed hits from the Briefcase Full Of Blues album on Miami Beach to raise money for the Buoniconti Fund To Cure Paralysis.

The Buoniconti Fund seeks to raise funds and awareness for The Miami Project, the world’s largest spinal cord injury research center. Both orgaisations were co-founded by NFL Hall of Fame linebacker Nick Buoniconti after his son Marc’s football accident paralyzed him from the neck down.

“One day I was a normal kid thinking about school, sports and girls,” says Marc Buoniconti from his wheelchair. “The next thing you know I’m out there talking to people about paralysis.” Having raised over $150 million through the Buoniconti Fund, he says, “My goal is to get everyone out of these chairs.”

The April 26 Blues concert, put together in conjunction with the Miami Beach Polo World Cup and The Setai restaurant, began with a fashion show and a presentation by Judy Belushi Pisano, widow of the original Blues Brothers co-creator, John Belushi. The Blues Brothers act followed with a guest performance by sax man Alto Reed of Bob Seger’s Silver Bullet band, and then a silent auction that included Blues Brothers memorabilia donated by Ms Belushi Pisano.

“The Miami Project holds tremendous promise for people who are spinal cord injured,” Marc says. “In 1985, the Miami Project was a dream. Today, it’s reality.”

Good Music, Excellent Wine With Aykroyd in June

June has been a busy month for Dan Aykroyd. On June 9th, he performed a free Blues Brothers concert with James Belushi, the brother of Mr Aykroyd’s late Blues Brother partner, John Belushi.

The show raised $100,000 in donations, which Eblen Charities, serving western North Carolina, will use to create the new Seven Falls Foundation. Various creative fund raising events and partnerships with companies, municipalities or other organizations enable Eblen to assist families and children who are battling the effects of illnesses and disabilities by providing medication, travel to hospital and information services. They also offer emergency services in the form of rent payment, utility assistance and food, and much more. Eblen hopes to increase their outreach from the 65,000 needy last year to 75,000 this year.

Last weekend Mr Aykroyd hosted the Niagara Wine Auction, featuring world class Ontario VQA wines and the finest food at some of the most beautiful wineries in Niagara. The 1,100 seats were sold out for the $500-a-plate fundraiser. Besides mingling with winemakers, wine tasting and celebrity chef food, guests bid on wine packages, merchandise and getaways. Proceeds will benefit SickKids Foundation and St. Catharines General Hospital Foundation.

Dan Aykroyd To Host Niagara Wine Auction

Canadian-born comedian and actor Dan Aykroyd is to host the inaugural Niagara Wine Auction and Gala later this month. The former Blues Brother, an accomplished winemaker, plans to turn his epicurian passion to a good cause by involving himself in the event.

The Auction and Gala takes place in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, on June 22-24. The event plans to raise funds for the SickKids Foundation, although it will also support the local St Catharine’s General Hospital Pediatric Division.

The event includes a Winemaker’s Dinner, a garden party, and a main Gala Dinner, complemented by local award-winning and celebrity chefs. The venues are spread around some of the most beautiful vineyards in Ontario, and guests will have the opportunity to mingle with Aykroyd, as well as taste a variety of wines, and bid on special local wine packages.

Up for auction is an evening with Dan Aykroyd at his homestead in Kingston, Ontario. This includes a meal created and cooked by his personal chef, and featuring wines chosen by Aykroyd himself. Other items for sale include getaway weekends to several well-known vineyards in the area, golf tours, concert tickets, home theatre equipment, guitars, and more.
