Stars Flock To T-Shirt Launch For Invisible Children

GUESS and Vanity Fair Magazine unveiled special edition organic men’s T-shirts and women’s tank tops to benefit education and economic rebuilding in the war-ravaged African nation of Uganda last Thursday, October 21.

Held at the GUESS store in Beverly Hills, the event was hosted by Kristen Bell, Rachel Bilson and Peter Wentz and attracted stars such as AnnaLynne McCord, Ben McKenzie, Eliza Dushku, Rick Foxx, Chris Lowell, Shenae Grimes, Stephanie Jacobsen, Jeff Probst and many others.

The shirts are now available for purchase in all U.S. Guess stores and online at Guess.com. 100% of the proceeds from shirt sales will benefit Invisible Children, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting youth education and economic development in war-torn regions of Central East Africa.

Invisible Children was created by Jason Russell, Laren Poole and Bobby Bailey – who also attended Thursday’s event – after the release of their 2004 film “Invisible Children: Rough Cut,” a revealing documentary about the child soldiers of Northern Uganda. GUESS first partnered with the organization back in October 2006, when the daughters of Maurice Marciano, Olivia, 16 and Caroline, 18, were inspired to become involved in the noteworthy cause after seeing the filmmakers on the Oprah Winfrey Show.

$1.1 Million Raised At Milan Fashion Week Charity Event

Supermodel Linda Evangelista opened the amfAR Milano Foundation’s inaugural event held recently in conjunction with Milan Fashion Week.

In a moving speech in which she recalled the losses of friends during the early epidemic, she talked about the death of her booking agent. “Those were desperate times for so many of us. I watched him die and helped bury him, not understanding any of it. The fashion industry was especially hard hit by AIDS.”

  The event raised $1.1 million (euro750,000) for HIV/AIDS research, and was attended by many of the rich, famous and fashionable, including Rachel Bilson, Kanye West, Donatella Versace and models Anja Rubik and Chanel Iman

Janet Jackson, longtime dedicated philanthropist and HIV/AIDS activist, chaired the event along with many other notable people including DSquared² designing twins Dean and Dan Caten and Linda Evangelista. The event was presented by DSquared², BMW Group Italia, and Lambertz, along with media partner Vanity Fair and hotel partner Westin Palace Milano. The black tie dinner and auction was followed by an after-party deejayed by Bob Sinclar.  

Alek Wek and Giuseppe Zanotti auctioned off a pair of Giuseppe Zanotti boots designed exclusively by Mr. Zanotti for Michael Jackson to be worn on the opening night of his planned come-back tour. The hand-embellished boots featured 3,000 multicolored Swarovski beads and sold for $14,634.
 
French model Noemie Lenoir made the impromptu decision to go out on a date with the highest bidder in the room and, in doing so, raised $16,097.
 
There were so many more great items auctioned off, including a private DJ lesson with Bob Sinclar. 
 
Dita Von Teese, a longtime amfAR supporter, celebrated her birthday on the evening of the event. Von Teese closed the night by treating guests to a special performance of “Le Bain Noir.”

Kristen Bell To Host Charity Event For Invisible Children

GUESS – the American lifestyle brand famous for its trend-setting denim and unforgettable campaigns – and VANITY FAIR magazine, are excited to announce the launch event for a new line of organic t-shirts designed to make a difference: 100% of the proceeds will go to benefit Invisible Children.

This star-studded event will take place at the GUESS Rodeo Drive flagship store in Beverly Hills on Thursday, October 22, from 7:00–9:00 p.m. The event will be hosted by young Hollywood’s leading ladies, Kristen Bell and Rachel Bilson, with musical guest Peter Wentz accompanied by DJ White Shadow.

Three years ago, Caroline and Olivia Marciano—daughters of Maurice Marciano, Chairman of the Board and Co-founder of GUESS—approached their father about wanting to make a difference by supporting Invisible Children. Caroline, now a freshman in college, and Olivia, a senior in high school, came across Invisible Children while watching an episode of Oprah. The short segment made such an impact on the girls that they went to their father to see how they could get involved. Their father told them, “I will help you, but it has to be your project.” Three years later, GUESS is thrilled to unveil organic men’s T-shirts and women’s tank tops whose entire proceeds will go to benefit Invisible Children. Guests will have the opportunity to get a preview of the men’s and women’s Invisible Children T- shirts prior to their arrival in all U.S. GUESS stores and www.guess.com in early November. The design inspiration for the men’s T-shirt ($29) was drawn from the shape of Africa, which is printed on the front of the shirt. The gradient text, which highlights the daily strife of the children in Uganda, drives home the message of peace, love, and hope reflected in the colors of the Uganda flag. The women’s tank top ($26) features the LOVE logo with the “O” representing the globe. Both shirts will be manufactured by EDUN LIVE out of Uganda from 100% percent certified organic cotton, and will support sustainable socioeconomic development in that country.

“We are excited to celebrate the launch event for the third collaboration between GUESS and Invisible Children,” says Maurice Marciano. “Not only am I thrilled to see the GUESS name aligned with Invisible Children, an organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for war-affected people in Northern Uganda, but it means so much to me personally that my daughters, Caroline and Olivia, came up with the initial idea to partner with this organization, and have spearheaded the partnership since its inception in 2006.”

The annual Handbag Amnesty Celebrity Auction to raise money for Cancer Research UK is on now, giving you the chance to bid on some unique handbags donated by some of today’s hottest stars.

Going under the hammer are bags belonging to Paris Hilton, Rachel Weisz, Rachel Bilson, Heidi Klum, Scarlett Johansson, Peaches Geldof and Alesha Dixon, all of whom have given up a favourite handbag from their personal collection. Even Alexander McQueen has donated.

All profits will go to Cancer Research UK – the largest single funder of breast cancer research in the UK – which spent £44million on groundbreaking research last year alone.

Paris Hilton is the latest international celebrity to donate a designer handbag to the second annual Handbag Amnesty, a partnership between handbag.com, the home of fashion, beauty, hair and celebrity and Cancer Research UK.

Handbag Amnesty 2009, part of handbag.com’s dedicated Handbag Month, will take place throughout September, culminating in an exclusive handbag.com celebrity handbag auction from 2nd – 11th October, to tie in with breast cancer awareness month.

In return for donating their handbags and other quality used-goods, members of the public will be able to enter a draw to win a fantastic designer handbag to replace the one they have donated.

Rachel Bilson Supports Skin Cancer Initiative

Actress Rachel Bilson is supporting a new initiative to raise awareness and funds for skin cancer research.

As part of the Glow in the Dark campaign being run by Jergens – the Cincinnati based manufacturer of health and beauty skin care products including lotions, skin cleansers, facial cleansers and moisturizers – Bilson is promoting bottle tanning this summer in an effort to reduce rates of skin cancer.

‘Growing up in Southern California, getting tan was a big part of the culture," she told People.com. "Now being aware of how bad [it] is for your skin, you can still get that look and that glow without harming your body.’

Bilson was the first person to take Jergens’ pledge – “I promise to give up bad tanning habits, practice sun safety, get a safe summer glow, and keep my skin hydrated” – on the company’s website. Now, for every person who signs up and takes the pledge, Jergens will give $1 to the Skin Cancer Foundation.

Paris Hilton Parties For The Art Of Elysium

A plethora of stars turned out at the grand opening of the new Dolce & Gabbana Boutique in Los Angeles this week in support of The Art of Elysium.

The Who’s Who of the entertainment world included Paris Hilton, Nicole Richie, Joel Madden and Benji Madden from Good Charlotte, Lauren Conrad, Rumer Willis, Gabrielle Union, Josh Brolin, Kelly Ripa, and many others.

The evening was hosted by former OC actress Rachel Bilson, and at least 15% of sales from the Robertson Boulevard store will go towards the Art of Elysium, which develops creative projects for children battling serious medical conditions.

“This is a strategic opening for the group on a global scale. Locating a D&G store in a very important street both for its positioning and visibility allows us to speak directly to our public,” said Gabbana.

Clothes typically last longer without the duress of a machine dryer.
Exposure to sunlight is the best natural bleach for your clothes. Worried about fading clothes, simply hang them inside out.

the pilot phase of their National Sexual Assault Online Hotline. This is an essential lifeline for sexual assault survivors who may not be ready or have restrictions making a connection via a telephone line.

After months of collaboration with leading security software designers, RAINN developed a privacy-protected instant messaging format for online communication. Survivors can communicate in real-time with trained crisis support volunteers with the confidence of knowing that no trace or transcripts are stored. Furthermore, a tutorial is given on clearing private data from their personal computer after an online visit.

During its pilot phase the online hotline hours are Monday through Friday, from 4pm to 6pm ET, eventually becoming a 24/7 sanctuary. For
