Make It Right has announced that Ellen DeGeneres will join Brad Pitt as host of “A Night to Make It Right”, a charity gala to raise vital funds to complete Make It Right’s goal to build 150 environmentally friendly homes in New Orleans’ Lower 9th Ward.

The gala will be held at Hyatt Regency New Orleans on Saturday, March 10, 2012 and also celebrates the hotel’s grand re-opening. Performers will include Rihanna, Sheryl Crow, Seal and The Neville Brothers, and the host committee includes Sean Penn, Kevin Spacey, Spike Lee, Blake Lively, Djimon Hounsou, Josh Brolin, Bennett Miller and Chris Paul.

“I’m so happy I can be a part of this incredible foundation,” said Ellen DeGeneres, a long-time supporter of Make It Right. “I’m from New Orleans, I love New Orleans and I love that Make It Right continues to help the people there rebuild their beautiful city. Mark Twain might best be remembered for his writings about life on the Mississippi River, featuring his most famous character Huck Finn. When Twain died over 100 years ago, he probably never would have imagined some of the world’s most renowned actors, musicians, authors and entertainers would come together to celebrate his life.

That celebration resulted in a new double-CD set that is burning up the charts and is particularly unique for bringing together personalities like best-selling author and rock star Jimmy Buffett; nine-time Grammy winner Sheryl Crow; multiple Academy Award-winning film director and star Clint Eastwood; best-selling author and radio host Garrison Keillor; and a Who’s Who of Country and Bluegrass music legends including Vince Gill, Brad Paisley, Carl Jackson, Ricky Skaggs, Emmylou Harris, Joe Diffie and more.

Dr. Cindy Lovell, Executive Director of the Mark Twain Boyhood Home & Museum, originally conceived the idea. Her childhood friend, Carl Jackson, is a Grammy-winning producer, singer, and songwriter. After hearing his 2003 Grammy-winning star-studded project honoring country music legends the Louvin Brothers, she approached him about producing a similar project honoring the 100-year passing of Twain and benefiting the home and museum. Once Carl said yes, she got backstage at a Jimmy Buffett concert where she approached him about participating in the project. Buffett has made a career of writing and singing about life on the water and is a huge Twain fan. He not only agreed to participate, but also made the decision to release the final project on his own label, Mailboat Records. He even came on board as the voice of Huck Finn, Twain’s most beloved character. The final project resulted in Mark Twain: Words & Music, a double-CD with a 40-page booklet of liner notes. It was written and produced to benefit the Mark Twain Boyhood Home & Museum and tells Twain’s life from comet to comet in spoken word and song. The CD includes a mixture of narration, Twain’s dialogue, and Huck’s voice along with a combination of old music and new songs written specifically for this project.

Alberta Ferretti and Emma Watson have joined forces to create high-fashion’s first eco-label.

The 5 piece collection was launched on the 21st of March and has been hugely successful, with two pieces selling out completely. Proceeds from the sales will be donated to People Tree, a fair-trade British clothing company. All the clothes are made according to ethical guidelines, with fair-trade fabrics and good working conditions. On her choosing of celebrity, Ferretti said that Emma Watson ‘was an obvious choice for me on this project as we share a deep sensibility for the green cause’.

This is no doubt referring to Watson’s other three People Tree Clothing collections that she has released in the past two years. All four of her ethical collections reflect perfectly Watson’s personality, put simply by Ferretti as ‘fresh, spontan[eous] and simpl[e]’.

William Shatner To Host Charity Horse Show This Weekend

William Shatner’s Hollywood Charity Horse Show will take place this Sunday, May 1, with special musical guest Sheryl Crow.

Shatner has been hosting the charity horse shows for the last twenty years – inspired after he watched an exhibition by children who were so severely handicapped that some of them could not hold their head up, yet there they were going through intricate exercises on the back of a horse. The program was sponsored by Ahead With Horses, a therapeutic riding group for handicapped children. In 1990, Shatner hosted his first charity horse show, and the event has become a major fixture on the charity calendar.

This year’s event – on May 1 – will benefit AHEAD with Horses, Camp Max Straus, Starlight Children’s Foundation, Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, Hollenbeck Police Activities League, The Painted Turtle and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Eric Clapton held his third Crossroads Guitar Festival just outside Chicago in the weekend, to raise money for the anti-addiction centre he opened in 1998.

The concert was a treat for lovers of the blues, with performers including BB King, Buddy Guy and Jeff Beck appearing, along with John Mayer, Sheryl Crow, ZZ Top, Vince Gill, Steve Winwood and many others. Bill Murray also made an appearance.

The festival benefited Clapton’s Crossroads Centre, a facility he launched on the beautiful Caribbean island of Antigua following his own battles with addiction.

Sheryl Crow, Norah Jones, Damien Rice, Angélique Kidjo and Mos Def feature on a new 18-track compilation album that aims to raise hope, educate and empower individuals to be a part of the solution to the Congolese conflict.

In the Congo, rape has been used as a weapon of war to perpetrate the deadliest conflict since World War II. For many, the situation in Congo is too bleak, or too distant, to approach. The ENOUGH Project and Mercer Street Records (a signature label of Downtown Music) are seeking to change that attitude with the compilation album “Raise Hope for Congo.”

The idea for the compilation CD was conceived by Shahin Shahida — Unison Agency consultant and the executive producer of the album — after reading Not on Our Watch, a book by John Prendergast, co-founder of the ENOUGH Project, and Don Cheadle, co-founder of the Not On Our Watch organization. Shahida saw the critical need for a compilation to help open the world’s eyes to the crisis.
