Annie Lennox helped launch the Oxfam Celebrity Charity Curiosity Shop at Selfridges in London on Thursday, performing 4 songs and raising over £31,000 by allowing the audience to bid for each performance.

The launch event raised a grand total of £208,985 for Oxfam circle projects around the world that empower women and really make a difference.

For ten days only, The Oxfam Curiosity Shop will sell celebrity fashion donations, sought-after samples and vintage clothing hand-picked from Oxfam’s 700 shops. There will also be celebrity styling sessions, plus special VIP appearances.

Dozens of artists, including Sting, Bon Jovi, Pink, Bob Dylan and Kings Of Leon have donated tracks to a CD benefitting the Queensland flood victims.

Flood Relief – Artists For The Flood Appeal will also feature songs from Australian bands Powderfinger, Crowded House and Midnight Oil.

59 previously-released tracks have been donated by the bands for the three-disc compilation, including songs by Beyoncé, Billy Joel, Bruce Springsteen, Foo Fighters and Keith Urban.

Australian singer-songwriter, model and actress Natalie Imbruglia has collaborated with fashion label Banjo & Matilda to create a line of knitwear, inspired by her four-leaf clover tattoo, to benefit charity.

“The four-leaf clover is a powerful symbol to me, so much so that I have it tattooed on the inside of my wrist…My sister and I both have the design to remind us of not only one another, but also of how grateful we are to be living great lives” she recently said.

The project will see $100 from each £299 sweater donated to her chosen charity, the End Fistula Campaign, which is a compelling women’s rights issue that is prevalent in many poor countries of the world.

The Celebrity Oxfam Curiosity Shop opens today, May 14, in London – and a special online auction has been launched to celebrate.

From Friday 14 May to Thursday 20 May Selfridges’ Ultralounge, the London store’s permanent arts and exhibition space, will be transformed into The Oxfam Curiosity Shop – staffed by celebrities from Annie Lennox to Beverley Knight with all proceeds going to Oxfam.

Richard Branson And Friends Complete London Marathon For Charity

Richard Branson led his team in yesterday’s London Marathon to an outstanding result, raising huge amounts of money for charity.

The entrepreneur finished just behind Natalie Imbruglia in the race, which saw a total of 18 new world records – including the number of runners tied together. The human chain – which featured 34 people tied together by a bungee cord – included Princess Beatrice, the first member of the royal family to compete in the event.

The Princess – who completed the 26.2 mile course in 5 hours, 15 minutes and 57 seconds – was running to raise money for Children In Crisis, and joined other celebrities in Branson’s team including Jenni Falconer (CLIC Sargent and Virgin Unite), Lee Evans (Save the Children), Natalie Imbruglia (Virgin Unite), Lorraine Kelly (CLIC Sargent), Gordon Ramsay (Scottish Spina Bifida Association). Ramsay, however, did not complete the race – despite being a veteran of marathons in the UK and US.

Yesterday, Look To The Stars brought you Elton John’s plans to sell his clothes at a charity store this weekend. We can also now reveal that some of his celebrity friends tried some of the clothes on this week to publicize the event.

Sting, Neve Campbell and Natalie Imbruglia were all spotted wearing Elton John’s old threads in GQ Magazine to help raise money for the Elton John AIDS Foundation.

“Elton and David [Furnish] are dear friends of mine, and I have the utmost respect for them as people and as campaigners,” said Sting. “One of my favourite shots was with me wearing David’s jacket and a pair of Elton’s glasses. I looked a bit like Dame Edna Everage.”

Held at his Windsor mansion, “Woodside”, the party featured entertainment by Justin Timberlake and attracted guests such as Sam Taylor Wood, Damien Hirst, Elizabeth Hurley, Kate Beckinsale, Shirley Bassey, Lily Allen, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Natalie Imbruglia, David Walliams, Geri Halliwell, Lily Cole and Erin O’Connor.

Oxfam has launched a new campaign to encourage people to recycle clothing.

The Sustain Me campaign features famous faces such as Heidi Klum, Natalie Imbruglia, Cat Deeley and Jourdan Dunn in a series of looks designed by stylist Katie Shillingford using clothing handpicked from Oxfam’s recycling plant Wastesaver.

“I just love the idea of recycling clothing,” said Klum. “To give those once cherished items a longer existence is just great. It’s also an essential tool for Oxfam to continue tackling poverty in the world.”

Canadian music legend Leonard Cohen has donated money to the victims of the terrible fires raging across southern Australia.

The fires have already claimed over 180 lives and almost 1,000 homes around Melbourne, and authorities fear the death rate could rise to over 300. Cohen, who is currently on tour in the country with Aussie icon Paul Kelly, has come to the aid of the thousands of homeless victims with a donation of AUS$200,000 (US$134,000).

“Leonard has loved his time in Australia on this tour and is shocked and deeply saddened by the news of the fires,” said tour promoter Michael Gudinski. “Leonard, Paul, their touring parties and everyone at AEGLive UK and The Frontier Touring Company wish to extend their heartfelt sympathies to those that have suffered the loss of loved ones or their homes through this terrible tragedy.”

Natalie Imbruglia Says No To Fur In PETA Campaign

Australian singer Natalie Imbruglia is the latest celebrity to pose for anti-fur advertisements for PETA.

The 33-year-old singer appears in a new campaign about the “tortuous” methods used to kill animals for fur. Pictured cuddling a very fluffy rabbit in a photo shot recently in London by celebrity photographer Karl Grant, Imbruglia was extremely excited about the campaign. But her plans to do a live launch were hindered by her recording commitments.

“There is no kind way to rip the skin off animals’ backs,” she said. “In the wild, animals are caught in snares and steel-jaw traps that slam down on their limbs – they often cut down to the bone and mutilate animals’ legs and paws… Anyone who wears any fur shares the blame for the torture and gruesome deaths of millions of animals each year.”

Richard Branson's Rock The Kasbah Event Tonight

For once, Sir Richard Branson will not be on stage at his Virgin Unite charity’s Rock The Kasbah event in Los Angeles later tonight, October 23. The business mogul and adventurer is sea-bound in a bid to beat a transatlantic sailing record.

The event will instead be hosted by Dancing With The Stars’ Samantha Harris and will feature performances by Natalie Imbruglia and Island Def Jam recording artist Jon McLaughlin.

The night will include a Moroccan dinner and an auction of epic proportions that will include items such as the chance to stay at Branson’s luxury game park in South Africa, race an Astin Martin around the California, name one of Virgin’s new A320 Airbuses, spend a week on Branson’s Private Paradise in the Virgin Islands, and much more.

Some famous names from British entertainment are lending their faces to a new advertising campaign targeting breast cancer.

Natalie Imbruglia, Anna Friel, Alan Carr, Edith Bowman, and Twiggy have been shot by acclaimed photographer Rankin wearing Fashion Targets Breast Cancer T-shirts for the campaign from Breakthrough Breast Cancer – the UK’s leading charity fighting breast cancer. The campaign aims to raise £1 million (US$2 million) to assist with research, campaigning, and education about the disease which kills around 35 women every day in the UK.

The campaign’s message is “Whatever your reason, wear one,” and each celebrity taking part has agreed to send themselves up by featuring their own comic reason. In the ads, which can be seen on Breakthrough’s website, Alan Carr jokes that the T-shirt shows off his man boobs, and Natalie Imbruglia admits that she is supporting FTBC because she has a thing about pastel colours. However, they also all see the serious side of the disease which affects 44,000 women in the UK every year.

Once a year Sir Elton John and his partner David Furnish throw open the doors of their exquisite Berkshire home to a sparkling array of celebrities for their annual White Tie and Tiara Ball, and last night was no different as a staggering number of stars filed into the singer’s house for this year’s much-looked-forward-to event.

More than 600 guests turned up to the beach-themed party, each paying around US$6,000 for the dinner, auction, and concert. This year’s performance came from Beach Boys legend Brian Wilson, and attendees included Bill Clinton, Elle Macpherson, Denzel Washington, Elizabeth Hurley, Michael Caine, Simon Cowell, Rod Stewart, Mischa Barton, Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith, Gordon Ramsay, Tracey Emin, Roger Federer, Natalie Imbruglia, Kelly Osbourne, and Jemima Khan.

Singer Leona Lewis has designed a special headscarf to raise funds for a major charity’s new education campaign.

The 23-year-old was made an Ambassador for the Teenage Cancer Trust’s Sunburn campaign – a program to encourage young people to use sunscreen when out in the sun – in May, and has designed an exclusive limited-edition headscarf decorated with butterflies to celebrate her involvement.

The scarves will be available exclusively from British chain “Superdrug”, and cost £2.99 ($6US). They officially go on sale on July 2, but can be pre-ordered from the Superdrug website from today.

Stars Gather For Cystic Fibrosis Benefit

A cold London night was made a little warmer on Thursday, when a host of stars came out to raise money for sufferers of a chronic genetic disease.

The “Liv” Gala and Auction was held on January 31, with 420 guests paying up to $2,500 to attend the black tie event. The evening, which included performances by British comedians David Walliams, Matt Lucas, and Jimmy Carr, rasied over $4 million, with proceeds to be split between the Cystic Fibrosis Trust in England and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in America.

Last minute schedule changes by soccer club Barcelona FC meant that host Thierry Henry was unable to attend, but he thrilled the audience by appearing via live video when his match finished. However, English International players Peter Crouch and John Terry did attend, and they were joined by singer Natalie Imbruglia, photographer Sam Taylor-Wood, and British television hosts Trinny Woodall and Davina McCall. British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, whose youngest son suffers from cystic fibrosis, also attended the gala.

Natalie Imbruglia is set to perform at the second annual Reach Out to Asia (ROTA) benefit dinner being held on November 4, in Doha, Qatar’s capital city.

The Australian pop singer certainly won’t be the only celebrity attending as organizers for the event, which is being hosted at the city’s Ritz Carlton Hotel, are hoping for an even more glitzy and successful benefit than last year’s, when it drew in big names like Bill Clinton and Sir Richard Branson and was able to raise over $10 million for charitable causes in Asia.

ROTA’s philanthropic purpose is community development within Asia “with specific emphasis on promoting global responsibility for basic, quality primary education” as stated on the charity’s website.
