Elijah Wood To Be Honored At Charity Gala

On January 14th, the night before the Golden Globes, The Art of Elysium will celebrate its fifth annual HEAVEN Gala, honoring Lord Of The Rings star Elijah Wood.

This fall The Art of Elysium celebrated 14 years of providing creative arts programming for hospitalized youth in Los Angeles and New York. This year’s Visionary and creative force behind HEAVEN is Cameron Silver, founder and co-owner of Decades. The organization is thrilled to unveil his idea of heaven on earth, or “elysium”, on January 14th. The charity will also recognize Elijah Wood as their 2012 Spirit of Elysium Recipient for his years of volunteerism and tireless fundraising efforts on their behalf.

Jillian Michaels Leads Massive Protest For PETA

Exercise guru Jillian Michaels led a massive protest outside the Staples Center in Los Angeles today to demand that Ringling Bros. circus abides by Los Angeles laws forbidding sick animals from working and that the circus free the elephants from their dismal lives in chains and boxcars.

Joined by stars such as Twilight’s Christian Serratos and The Secret Life of the American Teenager’s Renee Olstead – with the Twitter support of Sophia Bush, Kellan Lutz, Alicia Witt and Sasha Grey – Jillian led hundreds of protestors outside Ringling’s new show, Fully Charged.

The evening, which raised funds and awareness for the i.am scholarship Fund, featured a high-energy concert and presented the first annual Data Awards, honoring the most recognized DJs and Producers in dance music of 2009. The Art of Elysium annual Heaven gala attracted a massive group of celebrity supporters this year.

The black tie event was held in Beverly Hills on Saturday night, January 16, and honored Kirsten Dunst for her work with the charity. Some of the stars that came out to help her celebrate included Katy Perry, Russell Brand, Adam Lambert,Jason Bateman, Rachel Bilson, Kate Bosworth, Sophia Bush, Scarlett Johansson, Ali Larter , Benji Madden, Nicole Richie & Joel Madden, Ashley Olsen, Ryan Seacrest, Bonnie Somerville, Mark Wahlberg, Alicia Witt, Topher Grace, Alexander Skarsgård, Camilla Belle and many more.

The Art of Elysium is a non-profit organization, founded in 1997 by Jennifer Howell, which encourages actors, artists and musicians to voluntarily dedicate their time and talent to children who are battling serious medical conditions. They provide artistic workshops in the following disciplines: acting, art, comedy, fashion, music, radio, songwriting and creative writing. They work with numerous hospitals and hospices throughout Los Angeles, California and began servicing hospitals in New York, New York in 2009.

The Art of Elysium is holding their Third Annual Black Tie charity gala titled “Heaven” on Saturday, January 16, 2010. The event will take place the night before the Golden Globes and will honor Kirsten Dunst

Artist Shepard Fairey (creator of “Obey Giant” and the force behind the Obama “Hope” poster) is this year’s visionary and will create all visual and conceptual aspects of the themed gala entitled “Heaven”.

“When I was asked by The Art of Elysium to conceive my vision of heaven, I immediately thought of a world where creativity, compassion and connection are celebrated,” he said. “I thought of humanity and nature existing in harmony; after all, humans are part of nature, not above nature, and connected to one another just the same. We need to look out for each other and understand how our actions impact others and the planet we inhabit.”

Billy Joel Signs Piano For Charity Auction

Billy Joel has signed a Steinway baby grand piano for an auction to raise money for a music program run for children in New York.

The Piano Man has donated the $60,000 Steinway to benefit 10 O’Clock Classics, a non-profit organization that provides free lessons and instruments to Catholic-school children. The funds will be used by young musicians at East Harlem’s Mount Carmel-Holy Rosary School in Manhattan.

Joel made the decision to sign the instrument after reading a recent article in the New York Times, Juilliard Curtails Program That Serves Poor Children. The sale of the Steinway will help pay for the children featured in the article to continue with their music lessons, and Joel will sign and personalize the fallboard (directly above the keys, on the right side) for the winner once the auction has concluded.

The Hollywood Cookbook Launch Party

Stars and food converged at Kitchen Academy in Hollywood last night for a party launching The Hollywood Cookbook — a beautiful 271-page hardcover collection of sumptuous recipes, each accompanied by a large photo, from the personal kitchens of 20 celebrities and 6 world-class chefs. Five dollars from each purchase benefits 20 important charities dear to the hearts of the celebrity contributors.

The cookbook covers the spectrum of food and beverage, from appetizers, soups and salads, to main courses, desserts, and even cocktails. Michael J. Fox’s Barn Dance Chicken, and Jane Kaczmarek and Bradley Whitford’s Savory Fall Stew are just two of the 107 creative and simple dishes that can be duplicated in any kitchen regardless of culinary skill level. Chefs Wolfgang Puck, Mario Batali, Joachim Splichal, Nick Stellino, Michael Cimarusti and Rocco DiSpirito also contributed recipes to the book.

At the event, the students of Kitchen Academy prepared and served 20 recipes featured in the cookbook, each one tastier than the last. This reporter’s favorite: Door Knob Sweet Potato Balls (an appetizer) from designer Paige Hemmis of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. Yum!
