Stars Flock To The Carousel For Hope For Charity

On Saturday, October 23, host Barbara Davis welcomed guests to the Beverly Hilton for the 32nd Anniversary Carousel of Hope Ball.

The celebrity charity event, founded by Barbara and the late Marvin Davis in 1977, brought together Hollywood’s elite as they raised nearly $2.5 million to benefit the clinical care and research at the Barbara Davis Center for Childhood Diabetes (BDC) where more than 5,000 children and young adults receive specialized care.

Celebrity guests as this year’s event included host Barbara Davis, emcee Jay Leno, honorees Maria Shriver and Quincy Jones, performers Jennifer Lopez & Marc Anthony, Gladys Knight and Akon, along with guests Garcelle Beauvais, Halle Berry, Thora Birch, Brandy, Adrien Brody, Maksim Chmerkovskiy, Jackie Collins, Joan Collins, Jane Fonda, Daisy Fuentes, Tom Hanks & Rita Wilson, Nicky Hilton, Paris Hilton, Rick & Kathy Hilton, Anjelica Huston, Randy Jackson, Don Johnson, Nigel Lythgoe, Chris Massey, Kyle Massey, Nancy O’Dell, Sidney Poitier, Don Rickles, Mimi Rogers, Mira Sorvino, Rod Stewart, Alan Thicke, Diane Warren, Raquel Welch, Vanna White, Stevie Wonder and many more.

Jennifer Lopez To Perform At Carousel Of Hope Charity Gala

The annual Carousel of Hope Gala will take place this month to raise money for the Barbara Davis Center for Childhood Diabetes.

Presented by Jay Leno, the gala will take place at the Beverly Hilton on Saturday, October 23, and will honor Maria Shriver and Quincy Jones for their charity work.

This year celebrates 31 years of helping children with diabetes through the Barbara Davis Center for Childhood Diabetes. Held every two years, this is the 19th Carousel of Hope. From its inception in 1978, the Ball has raised over $70 million.

Stars To Attend Cowtail Party At Animal Acres

Animal Acres animal sanctuary will hold its annual gala next month, starting with a festive “Cowtail Party” where celebrity hosts, award recipients and Gala guests will meet and mingle with the sanctuary’s “guest of honor”- over 150 rescued cows, pigs, turkeys, chickens, sheep and goats.

Expected to attend the event are comedian Tom Papa, Shelley Morrison (Will & Grace), Thora Birch (American Beauty), Kevin Nealon (Weeds), Hector Elizondo (Chicago Hope), Joely Fisher (Til Death), Elaine Hendrix (Joan of Arcadia), Sara Rue (Less Than Perfect), Hal Sparks (Queer as Folk), Wendie Malick (Just Shoot Me) and many other farmed animal friends.

The award ceremony – which is co-chaired by Ellen DeGeneres – honors individuals and corporations who have made outstanding contributions through their commitment to the cause of protecting farmed animals and promoting compassionate living choices. This year’s awardees include Actress Shelley Morrison, “Quantum Wellness” author Kathy Freston, who prompted Oprah Winfrey to do a 21-day vegan cleanse, and Animal Acres volunteer and author/health advocate Bobby Rock.

Stars and food converged at Kitchen Academy in Hollywood last night for a party launching The Hollywood Cookbook — a beautiful 271-page hardcover collection of sumptuous recipes, each accompanied by a large photo, from the personal kitchens of 20 celebrities and 6 world-class chefs. Five dollars from each purchase benefits 20 important charities dear to the hearts of the celebrity contributors.

The cookbook covers the spectrum of food and beverage, from appetizers, soups and salads, to main courses, desserts, and even cocktails. Michael J. Fox’s Barn Dance Chicken, and Jane Kaczmarek and Bradley Whitford’s Savory Fall Stew are just two of the 107 creative and simple dishes that can be duplicated in any kitchen regardless of culinary skill level. Chefs Wolfgang Puck, Mario Batali, Joachim Splichal, Nick Stellino, Michael Cimarusti and Rocco DiSpirito also contributed recipes to the book.

At the event, the students of Kitchen Academy prepared and served 20 recipes featured in the cookbook, each one tastier than the last. This reporter’s favorite: Door Knob Sweet Potato Balls (an appetizer) from designer Paige Hemmis of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. Yum!
