On Sunday, December 4, 2011, The Trevor Project honored Lady Gaga with the Trevor Hero Award and Google Inc. with the Trevor 2020 Award during “Trevor Live” presented by Audi of America and ING and directed by Adam Shankman.

This high-profile event to benefit the life-saving work of The Trevor Project featured moving performances from Hollywood’s most talented and entertaining performers, including Mary J. Christina Applegate's Right Action For Women

Most likely to be the only celebrity to win an award with the word ‘ass’ in it — the 2010 Do Something Kick-Ass For Survival Award — Christina Applegate is continuing to “kick cancer’s ass” by launching a charity, Right Action for Women, to help women who can’t afford the proper treatment for cancer.

“It’s a program giving financial aid to high-risk women who can’t afford to get MRIs, which is how I found my cancer,” Applegate tells WENN. “It’s unfortunate that insurance companies (in America) don’t cover the cost of that. It’s such an incredible device because you can find it at an early detection stage. We started our pilot program and started helping women already, even though we aren’t launched. The other aspect of the program is to do genetic counseling and help women understand what being high-risk means, and understanding what foods are good for their bloods and how to prevent this disease from happening. That has been my mission.” Applegate said.

Diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008, Applegate was fortunate that she survived, mainly because the early form of cancer was detected before it grew serious. Right Action for Women provides financial aid to women for MRI tests, which are screening tests for women with risks of getting breast cancer. MRI tests are usually not covered by insurance and can be seen as a financial nuisance to some. Applegate’s charity hopes to bring light to the importance of MRI tests and to preach the seriousness of these potentially life-saving tests.

On July 19, the Hollywood Palladium was filled with more stars in one place than a usual Monday evening should for the 2010 Do Something Awards hosted by VH1 on the blue – not red, but blue – carpet.

Before the event kicked off, Melanie Stevenson from DoSomething.org streamed live and greeted celebrities, creating a Twitter craze. Tweets tagged as #DSawards were displayed across the stage on the electronic banner and questions for host Jane Lynch to answer were welcomed.

Host Jane Lynch, aka Sue Sylvester, delivered as many witty one-liners as her Glee character loves to partake in. The hilarious opening, which can be viewed on VH1 here, shows Lynch with her long list of good things to do, ending with a bang as Sue Sylvester look-alikes flooded the Palladium. The pair were awarded the Courage Award for their work in setting up the Tug McGraw Foundation – after Tim’s father, who died of cancer – and their work raising funds for cancer research.

“Cancer took the life of my father-in-law,” said Faith Hill. “He was a brave man during his fight towards the end. His wish was to create an organisation that provided a better way of life for cancer patients and money towards research.”

The Dizzy Feet Foundation will hold its first ever fundraising event on Sunday, November 29. The inaugural Celebration of Dance will be presented by Nigel Lythgoe, Katie Holmes, Carrie Ann Inaba and Adam Shankman, and will feature Christina Applegate, Channing Tatum and many others.

The charity was recently established by Holmes, Nigel Lythgoe, Carrie Ann Inaba and director/choreographer Adam Shankman, and aims to support, improve and increase access to dance education. Katie Holmes performed on So You Think You Can Dance earlier this year to launch the charity. Supporters of the charity include Paula Abdul, Jennifer Lopez and Miley Cyrus.

“We see so many rough diamonds that you would love to be able to take under your wing and polish and say, ‘Wow, they look like they can become fabulous dancers,’ " Lythgoe told CNN. “But we can’t take people that just show promise. So in order to try and do something with that, we thought of the idea.”

Farrah Fawcett To Leave Legacy For Charity

Actress Farrah Fawcett passed away last Thursday, June 25, after battling cancer since 2006. But she is leaving a legacy for charity.

According to Radar Online, the 62-year-old has left donations and a number of her belongings to shelters for abused women.

The actress played an abused woman in The Burning Bed, a 1984 TV movie. The role – which addressed the issues of spousal abuse and spousal rape – had a profound effect on Fawcett.

The Entertainment Industry Foundation (EIF) has announced that Revlon spokeswomen Jennifer Connelly and Jessica Alba, along with NBC late night host Jimmy Fallon, will host the 2009 EIF Revlon Run/Walk for Women in New York taking place on Saturday, May 2, 2009.

Christina Applegate Crafts Roses For Breast Cancer

Christina Applegate is to auction off the roses she crafted from ribbons while recovering from her mastectomy earlier this year.

The 36-year-old actress learned to make the ribbon roses when she was a child and spent hours making hundreds of them as therapy while she was in hospital.

“Then I taught everyone who would come to visit me how to make them,” she said. “Anytime you would come into my room there would be, like, six people in there making these roses.”

Pussycat Dolls Head To Australia For Charity Gig

The Pussycat Dolls are heading down under and will perform a charity fundraiser to assist breast cancer research in Australia later this month.

The group – which began as a burlesque troupe based in Los Angeles in 1995, before being “re-cast” as a music group in 2003 – was created by choreographer Robin Antin and recently released their second studio album, Doll Domination.

The Dolls will hit the stage at QBH (of the Queensbridge Hotel) in Melbourne at 7.30pm on Thursday October 16, with all proceeds going to the National Breast Cancer Foundation. The girls agreed to do the benefit after their close friend Christina Applegate was diagnosed with the disease earlier this year.
