Stars Race To Erase MS At Celebrity Charity Event

On Friday, April 29, Co-Chairs Nancy Davis and Tommy Hilfiger welcomed guests to the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza for the 18th Annual Race to Erase MS. The event raised more than $2 million to benefit the Nancy Davis Foundation for Multiple Sclerosis.

Celebrity guests at this year’s event included host, MS survivor and advocate Nancy Davis, along with Tia Carrere, Holly Marie Combs, Rachael Leigh Cook, Cindy Crawford, David Faustino, Daisy Fuentes, Debbie Gibson, Melissa Joan Hart, Samantha Harris, Nicky Hilton, Paris Hilton, LaToya Jackson, Sugar Ray Leonard, Jon Lovitz, Chris Massey, Kyle Massey, Dr. Lisa Masterson, Shaun Robinson, Matt Sorum, Raven Symone, Lea Thompson, Sela Ward and many more. After celebrities made their way down the red carpet, they stopped by the Windows Phone Booth to take photos and record videos to tweet. For each celebrity video tweeted Windows Phone donated $500 to the cause.

Joan Jett To Headline Celebrity Charity Race To Erase MS

Joan Jett and The Blackhearts will headline the 18th annual Race To Erase MS on Friday, April 29, with Nicky and Paris Hilton scheduled to be among the guests.

The annual event raises money for the Nancy Davis Foundation for Multiple Sclerosis. This year’s event will be hosted by Nancy Davis and Tommy Hilfiger, with guests including Ed Begley Jr., Brooke Burke, Tia Carrere, Aaron Carter, Kristin Cavallari, Joan Collins, Holly Marie Combs, David Faustino, Daisy Fuentes, Greg Grunberg, Melissa Joan Hart, Anne Heche, Jon Lovitz, Shaun Robinson, Raven Symone and many more.

Co-Chairs Nancy Davis and Tommy Hilfiger welcome celebrity guests to the 18th Anniversary of Race to Erase MS themed Rock and Royalty. The event will feature live musical performances by Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Clay Walker and more to be announced. Race to Erase MS will once again host an exciting celebrity fashion show featuring a sneak preview of Andrew Charles, the new fashion line by Andy Hilfiger, and feature a live auction called by Shaun Robinson and Mark Curry. Katie Mattingly Brass and William O. “Bill” Perkins will be honored at this year’s event.

Animal activists were out in force at the Beverly Hilton on Saturday, March 20, for The Humane Society of the United States’ 24th annual Genesis Awards.

Stars such as Kristen Bell, Pierce Brosnan, Emily Deschanel, Jon Lovitz, Ginnifer Goodwin, Teri Hatcher, Tricia Helfer, Carrie Ann Inaba, Maria Menounos and many more were on hand to present awards to a variety of celebrities, shows, and activists who have spent the last year making the world a better place for animals. Veteran actress Tippi Hedren received a special lifetime achievement award from her daughter, Melanie Griffith, for her work raising awareness of the exotic pet trade.

The big winners of the night were the films Up, Hotel For Dogs and The Cove. Also picking up awards were an episode of Family Guy that featured animal exploitation issues, and an episode of Bones.

Animal welfare warriors shouldn’t forget The Humane Society’s 24th annual Genesis Awards this Saturday, March 20.

This year will see Melanie Griffith present a lifetime achievement award to her mother, 80-year-old Tippi Hedren, for dedicating the last 40 years to the protection of animals and raising awareness of the exotic pet trade.

“Tippi is an extraordinary woman – both a hands-on caregiver to 63 discarded big cats at the Shambala Preserve, as well as a tireless activist who continues to work in support of federal legislation that would ban the breeding of and the trade in exotic animals in the U.S.,” said Beverly Kaskey, senior director of the Hollywood office of The Humane Society of the United States and executive producer of the annual Genesis Awards.

October 2009 marked the beginning of the 40th Anniversary year for the classic comedy team Monty Python, and comedian Jon Lovitz is spearheading a charity event to celebrate.

Fans of spam, dead parrots, lumberjacks and the Spanish Inquisition (“Nobody ever expects the Spanish Inquisition!”) will flock to the first ever Silly Walks For Hunger event on November 19, which will give fans and fun-seekers an opportunity to show off their own “silly walks” while participating in a world-class live production—and all for a good cause: hunger relief.

“I have been a Monty Python fan for years,” said Jon Lovitz, who in May opened his own comedy club in the heart of Universal CityWalk, and who will act as the Minister of SillyWalks for the day. “We’ll be doing good by behaving silly… what a great way to honor their work. It’s perfect!”

SNL alumni Jon Lovitz, comedian/actor Carlos Mencia, actress & Grammy Award winning singer Tia Carrere, and marine life artist Wyland are teaming up for an evening of comedy and environmental education.

The evening will take place at LA’s newest stand-up comedy venue, The Jon Lovitz Comedy Club, on Tuesday, September 8th. Lovitz will headline the show, and there will be a guest performance by comedian/actor Carlos Mencia. The evening will also include a special performances by actress and Grammy Award winning singer Tia Carrere and an appearance by marine life artist and conservationist Wyland.

The main show starts at 8:30 p.m, but fans can take advantage of a rare opportunity to mingle with Lovitz, Mencia, Carrere, and Wyland at an exclusive VIP pre-show reception.

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson Leads Diabetes Campaign

Dwayne Johnson has joined with Novo Nordisk, a world-leader in diabetes care, and the Entertainment Industry Foundation (EIF), a leading charitable organization of the entertainment industry, to encourage families to get active together as a means to help prevent diabetes.

As an ambassador for the Diabetes Aware campaign, Johnson will appear in a public service announcement (PSA) to educate families about the prevalence of diabetes and the importance of an active, healthy lifestyle.

The PSA is part of the ongoing Diabetes Aware educational campaign sponsored by Novo Nordisk and the EIF. The campaign aims to reach the 24 million Americans who are living with diabetes, as well as the estimated 6.2 million Americans who are unaware that they have the disease, to underline the importance of detection, monitoring and proper management of diabetes.

Comedian Jon Lovitz is set to open his highly anticipated comedy club in California tonight, May 28, with proceeds to go to charity.

The grand opening of the Jon Lovitz Comedy Club at the Universal CityWalk will attract a host of stars, including Heidi Klum, Seal, Dana Carvey, Christina Ricci, Lisa Kudrow, Daryl Hannah, John Stamos, Tia Carrere, Gilles Marini, Scott Foley, Paul Reubens, Kristi Yamaguchi, Brooke Burke, Ed O’Neill, Krista Allen, Gary Marshall and supermodels of the co-sponsoring Next Models agency.

The opening will benefit the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund, a non-profit organization committed to funding research to find a method of early detection and ultimately a cure for ovarian cancer.

The Band From TV To Light Up Christmas Tree

The Band From TV will be appearing at the annual “Hollywood Christmas Tree Lighting at The Grove,” on Sunday, November 23.

The charity band made up of television stars – including Hugh Laurie, Greg Grunberg, Teri Hatcher, James Denton, Bob Guiney – recently released their first CD/DVD, Hoggin All The Covers. The band was started in 2006 to provide funding for several worthwhile charities – Save the Children, The Art of Elysium, the Child Abuse Prevention Program and the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence – and to raise money through music to help those in need.

Grunberg had the idea to establish the band after being asked to get a few celebrities to play together at the House Of Blues for charity. The event sparked a great amount of interest, and has led to a number of gigs in the US which have, according to Hugh Laurie, “raised a gargantuan sum of money for charity.”

Chris Evert Charity Tennis Event Attracts Celebrities

The 2008 Chris Evert/Raymond James Pro-Celebrity Tennis Classic was held at the Delray Beach Tennis Center, November 1-2nd, and once again proved to be a raging success – so much so, that tennis legend Chris Evert has now raised close to $20 million for charities!

The event kicked off with a Pro-Am at the Boca Raton Resort & Club tennis courts and attracted some new faces this year. Comedian Billy Crystal and 12-time Olympic medalist Dara Torres joined regulars such as Chevy Chase, Stone Phillips, Maeve Quinlan, Bud Collins, Vince Spadea, Alan Thicke, Jana Novotna, Gavin Rossdale, and Jon Lovitz.

Evert created the fundraising event to fight drug abuse and assist neglected and abused children in South Florida.
