“I count it a great privilege, as Patron of the Scott-Amundsen Centenary Race, to welcome you home. What you have achieved, and the honour you have done to Amundsen and Scott and the other great men of history who accompanied them, is beyond all praise.

“The fire in heart and soul that drives man to push the boundaries of what is physically possible and, in so doing, to lay bare the extraordinary strengths and depths of our humanity, is alive in the breast of every one of you today, as it was with those intrepid men a century ago.

St Giles Trust – a leading south London charity which helps offenders give up a life of crime – is celebrating Royal endorsement on hearing that His Royal Highness Prince William, the Duke of Cambridge, has become Patron of St Giles Trust for 2012.

Prince William Congratulates Charity South Pole Expedition

HRH The Duke of Cambridge has congratulated a British Army expedition after the team completed the most authentic-ever recreation of the famous Scott-Amundsen race to the South Pole today – exactly 100 years to the day since Captain Robert Falcon Scott reached the Pole.

Led by Lt Col Henry Worsley MBE, a British Army Officer, the ‘Amundsen’ team followed the exact route forged by the Norwegian adventurer 100 years ago. He and WO2 Lou Rudd ensured history repeated itself by beating the ‘Scott’ team, after reaching the geographical South Pole at 17:20 on 9 January following a gruelling seven-hour push to cover the final 12.5 nautical miles. The Scott team, led by WO2 Mark Langridge and his fellow adventurers SSgt Kev Johnson and SSgt Vic Vicary, reached the Pole at 10:25 on 17 January – the exact day that Capt Scott arrived in 1911. The team followed Scott’s exact route that included climbing the famous Beardmore Glacier.

The expedition aims to raise £500,000 for The Royal British Legion’s crucial work, providing care and support to serving and ex-Service people, and their families.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge attended the UK premiere of War Horse last week in aid of The Foundation of Prince William and Prince Harry.

Her Royal Highness is Patron of The Foundation, which was set up by The Duke and Prince Harry in 2009 and supports the Armed Forces as one of its key areas of focus.

The premiere was attended by 600 serving and ex-serving military personnel and their families as well as beneficiaries of military charities.

The concerts at London’s stunning Royal Albert Hall were held in support of disadvantaged young people, raising vital funds for The Prince’s Trust and The Foundation of Prince William and Prince Harry.

Gary said: “It is an honour to play for members of the royal family. I wanted to hold my solo concerts as a way of raising funds for these amazing charities – The Prince’s Trust along with the Foundation which are causes close to my heart. The money raised will go a long way to supporting the most disadvantaged young people to turn their lives around. It’s a critical time for young people at the moment and I want to do my bit to help.”

Screen legend Sir Roger Moore met with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge during their visit to a UNICEF supply centre in Denmark last week, and has lavished praise on the royal couple for their charity work.

The royals were in Copenhagen to help draw attention to the humanitarian crisis in East Africa by packing boxes for famine-affected people.

“They are both very interested in East Africa, it’s so close to their hearts,” Sir Roger was reported as saying. “It was just reiterating their passion for this cause – and I think it must be a passion, otherwise the royals wouldn’t just give up a day of their very busy lives and the high demands there are on them for attending all sorts of functions… and that’s apart from the RAF duties of the Duke.”

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge made a special visit to the UNICEF global supply centre in Copenhagen today to help maintain the world’s attention on the humanitarian crisis in East Africa, which has left more than 320,000 children so severely malnourished that they are at imminent risk of death unless they get urgent help.

UNICEF’s supply centre includes a warehouse the size of three football pitches where essential supplies for children around the globe are sourced, packed and distributed. These include food, water, special nutritional supplies for the most malnourished children, vaccines, education materials and emergency medical kits.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were accompanied on the visit by the Crown Prince and Crown Princess of Denmark. Their Royal Highnesses arrived at UNICEF’s Supply Centre in Copenhagen’s Freeport at 2:30pm and were welcomed by Shanelle Hall, Director of UNICEF’s Supply Centre. The Duchess and Crown Princess were given flowers by Amanda Kofoed and Maryam Abdullah, both 10 years old, who are children of UNICEF staff.

On Wednesday 2 November 2011, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will be making a special visit to the UNICEF Emergency Supply Center in Copenhagen, to help put the global spotlight back onto the humanitarian crisis in East Africa.

Right now, children across East Africa are facing a desperate crisis caused by drought, high food prices and ongoing conflict in Somalia. Over 320,000 children are so severely malnourished that they are at imminent risk of starving to death without urgent help.

Their Royal Highnesses, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, better known to Royals watchers as William and Kate, took part in a care package stuffing event at the Sony Pictures Studios in Los Angeles during their trip to the US. In partnership with the USO and Blue Star Families, the Royal Couple helped to create 1,000 care packages for military children as part of their highly anticipated North American trip.

The kits that were produced focus on the children of military families who have parents deployed. Conceived and created by the Trevor Romain Foundation, “With You All the Way” kits help children and their families prepare for deployment, stay connected during the separation and plan for reintegration upon their return home.

As part of their first official tour through Canada, Prince William and his new wife – the Duchess of Cambridge – made a visit to a centre for street kids in Quebec City.

Giving guidance and support to disadvantaged youth is one of the three areas of focus for the Foundation Prince William set up with his brother, Prince Harry, in 2009. Nevertheless, with the reputation of the Canadian province least affectionate towards British royalty, some of the centre’s youth had lackluster expectations about the visit, yet planned to participate out of a sense of obligation to the centre.

After the visit, however, the story changed. Excited and enthusiastic teenagers sang praises of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. Across Canada, people have been impressed again and again by William and Kate’s genuine interest in individuals and the sense of normalcy about them, despite their station.

Royal Wedding Hat Raises Over £81,000 For Charity

The charity auction for the unique hat worn by Princess Beatrice at the royal wedding between Prince William and Kate Middleton has just ended, with over £81,000 being raised for two organizations close to the young princess’ heart.

The auction began on Thursday 12 May, with an initial £5,000 bid from UNICEF UK Ambassador Duncan Bannatyne. The final amount raised was £81,100.01.

UNICEF is delighted to announce that Princess Beatrice will be auctioning her royal wedding hat on eBay, with money raised from the auction to be donated to UNICEF and Children In Crisis.

The auction began today at ebay.co.uk/royalhat, and will end on 22 May. The hat, worn by Princess Beatrice at the wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, was designed by the world famous London milliner Philip Treacy.

Prince Harry Walks With The Wounded

Prince Harry and his team are on route to the North Pole for Walking With The Wounded after delays due to bad weather. The team, including four injured soldiers, aim to be the first amputees to reach the North Pole unsupported and have set a goal to raise £2,000,000.

The group were ready to leave camp on 2nd April for the 25 day trip, traveling 200 miles to the North Pole, but due to bad flying conditions the departure had been delayed for two days. The blog on the Walking With The Wounded website included a message from Prince Harry and Captain Martin, a wounded soldier with a paralyzed right arm, saying that they were leaving at 6pm Monday 4th April.

Captain Martin Hewitt, aged 29, said “getting really excited now and looking forward to getting on with the task at hand and walking to the North Pole”. The 26-year-old Prince added “all the boys are really excited to finally be going; we’ve been sitting around here for far too long now. Blue sky outside here at Svalbard, can’t wait to get on the ice with the boys, shame I will only be able to spend about two and a half days with them, but they are all really excited so keep the support going.”

Prince William: Grief Is The Price We Pay For Love

In a poignant speech during a special memorial in Christchurch, Prince William today remembered the 182 people killed in the earthquake that hit the New Zealand city on February 22 and paid tribute to the bravery of those who helped survivors.

“My grandma once said that grief is the price we pay for love,” William told the thousands of people who gathered in Christchurch’s Hagley Park for the memorial. “Here today we love and grieve.”

He went on to deliver a message of hope, saying that he found it inspiring to see the country’s courage and determination "so starkly demonstrated over these terrible, painful months. Put simply, you are an inspiration to all people.

Prince William Visits Earthquake Damage In New Zealand, Launches Charity Initiative

Prince William is currently in Christchurch, New Zealand, to view damage resulting from the devastating earthquake that destroyed the homes and livelihoods of thousands of people last month, and to attend the memorial for the 180+ people killed.

William toured some of the worst-hit areas today, describing the damage as “unbelievable.” He also congratulated the Urban Search And Rescue teams that worked hard throughout the disaster: ’’You guys have been doing a sterling job. You really have. You have done fantastically well."

William also visited the West Coast town of Greymouth today, to meet families of the 29 miners killed in the Pike River mining disaster last November.

Hayley Westenra Heads Home To Christchurch For Charity

New Zealand-born singer Hayley Westenra is planning to stage a massive celebrity charity concert to raise funds for her hometown of Christchurch, which was devastated by a earthquake last month.

Around 200 lost their lives and thousands lost their homes and livelihoods during the quake.

The first 24 hours were the worst, as we waited anxiously for news of family and friends. There was no communication, no way of knowing what was going on. Just scenes of rubble and dust and smoke… people bleeding, crying… we felt powerless, impotent, just waiting, waiting, waiting….

The sun has just risen over Christchurch for the second morning following Tuesday’s earthquake. For the third day we sit here and watch and wait while emergency workers frantically move from building to building, looking and listening for survivors. We just wait and hope.

Prince William And Kate Middleton To Attend Charity Lifeboat Naming Ceremony

Preparations for a royal visit are underway at Trearddur Bay lifeboat station as Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) volunteer crew, fundraisers and supporters in the Anglesey village get ready to welcome HRH Prince William of Wales and Kate Middleton.

The royal couple will be guests of honour at the naming ceremony of the RNLI lifeboat station’s new Atlantic 85 inshore lifeboat, Hereford Endeavour, on Thursday 24 February.
