Prince Harry Becomes Patron Of Mount Everest Climb For Charity

Prince Harry has praised the “staggering determination” of a group of injured veterans attempting to conquer Mount Everest.

The charity Walking with the Wounded launched the ambitious project this week to put five war-wounded men on the mountain’s summit as Prince Harry agreed to be the expedition’s Patron. The royal even clambered into an altitude chamber at an event staged in central London to promote the adventure, to experience some of the conditions the group will face during their epic climb.

Prince Harry already has a close connection with the charity as he was patron of its successful bid last year to get a group of unsupported amputees to the geographic North Pole by foot, and even joined them for a number of days on the ice.

Annie Lennox To Represent Prince Harry's Charity At Snow Polo Event

Annie Lennox will be representing Prince Harry’s Sentebale charity on January 21 at the Klosters Snow Polo tournament charity event in Switzerland.

Sentebale is the chosen charity partner for the tournament in 2012. The event will feature a special charity polo match and dinner evening with profits generated through ticket sales to be donated to Sentebale, which was set up to provide support to the orphans and vulnerable children who are badly affected by the HIV/AIDs epidemic Lesotho in Africa.

Duke And Duchess Of Cambridge Attend War Horse Premiere For Charity

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge attended the UK premiere of War Horse last week in aid of The Foundation of Prince William and Prince Harry.

Her Royal Highness is Patron of The Foundation, which was set up by The Duke and Prince Harry in 2009 and supports the Armed Forces as one of its key areas of focus.

The premiere was attended by 600 serving and ex-serving military personnel and their families as well as beneficiaries of military charities.

As part of their first official tour through Canada, Prince William and his new wife – the Duchess of Cambridge – made a visit to a centre for street kids in Quebec City.

Giving guidance and support to disadvantaged youth is one of the three areas of focus for the Foundation Prince William set up with his brother, Prince Harry, in 2009. Nevertheless, with the reputation of the Canadian province least affectionate towards British royalty, some of the centre’s youth had lackluster expectations about the visit, yet planned to participate out of a sense of obligation to the centre.

After the visit, however, the story changed. Excited and enthusiastic teenagers sang praises of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. Across Canada, people have been impressed again and again by William and Kate’s genuine interest in individuals and the sense of normalcy about them, despite their station.

Prince Harry Walks With The Wounded

Prince Harry and his team are on route to the North Pole for Walking With The Wounded after delays due to bad weather. The team, including four injured soldiers, aim to be the first amputees to reach the North Pole unsupported and have set a goal to raise £2,000,000.

The group were ready to leave camp on 2nd April for the 25 day trip, traveling 200 miles to the North Pole, but due to bad flying conditions the departure had been delayed for two days. The blog on the Walking With The Wounded website included a message from Prince Harry and Captain Martin, a wounded soldier with a paralyzed right arm, saying that they were leaving at 6pm Monday 4th April.

Captain Martin Hewitt, aged 29, said “getting really excited now and looking forward to getting on with the task at hand and walking to the North Pole”. The 26-year-old Prince added “all the boys are really excited to finally be going; we’ve been sitting around here for far too long now. Blue sky outside here at Svalbard, can’t wait to get on the ice with the boys, shame I will only be able to spend about two and a half days with them, but they are all really excited so keep the support going.”

Supernatural Star Creates Charity Video Appeal For Japan

Supernatural and EastEnders star Adam Croasdell has joined forces with MapAction and See The Difference to create a video appeal for the victims of the Japanese earthquake and tsunami.

“In disasters like this, the actual topography of the landscape tends to change, making current maps of the region absolutely useless for rescue work and humanitarian aid” says Adam. “[I] support MapAction, which is an organization that sends British geographers or volunteers to crisis zones around the world, such as Haiti and now Japan. There they’ll map the tsunami affected areas to produce real time maps to assist the rescue and relief effort out there.”

MapAction – whose patron is Prince Harry – is a special organization that plays a crucial role in delivering humanitarian aid to the right place, quickly.

Prince William Visits Earthquake Damage In New Zealand, Launches Charity Initiative

Prince William is currently in Christchurch, New Zealand, to view damage resulting from the devastating earthquake that destroyed the homes and livelihoods of thousands of people last month, and to attend the memorial for the 180+ people killed.

William toured some of the worst-hit areas today, describing the damage as “unbelievable.” He also congratulated the Urban Search And Rescue teams that worked hard throughout the disaster: ’’You guys have been doing a sterling job. You really have. You have done fantastically well."

William also visited the West Coast town of Greymouth today, to meet families of the 29 miners killed in the Pike River mining disaster last November.

Prince Harry Wants To Join Injured Soldiers On Charity North Pole Trek

Prince Harry is keen to join wounded British soldiers on a trek to the North Pole this year.

Four soldiers injured in Afghanistan are planning the trip, with two of them attempting to become the first amputees to walk unaided to the pole.

The expedition – titled Walking With The Wounded, and of which the prince is patron – plans to raise money for Help for Heroes, Skill Force, Blesma and The Warrior Programme.

Prince Harry attended the opening of The Royal British Legion Wootton Bassett Field of Remembrance this week, the first Field of Remembrance dedicated to those who have been killed in Afghanistan.

Up to 35,000 crosses will be planted within the grounds of Lydiard Park, near to the town of Wootton Bassett, each with a personal message from members of the public in order to commemorate the 342 men and women killed in Afghanistan since the conflict began in 2001.

Robbie Williams Helps Heroes At Charity Concert

Take That stars Robbie Williams and Gary Barlow reunited on stage for charity in the UK during the weekend.

The pair performed their new single, Shame, in front of 60,000 people – including Prince Harry – at the massive Help for Heroes concert at Twickenham on September 12.

The stars were joined by Tom Jones, James Blunt, Enrique Iglesias, Alexandra Burke, Pixie Lott, Plan B and The Saturdays. The show was hosted by the best of the UK’s comedy talent – John Bishop, Kevin Bridges, Jack Dee, Jason Manford and Michael McIntyre – with a special guest appearance from Bruce Forsyth. Other acts who performed included Katherine Jenkins with Spelbound, Alesha Dixon and The Wanted. The concert was shown on BBC 1 and the coverage was presented by Cat Deeley.

Prince Harry Meets Superdogs At Charity

Prince Harry played with “superdogs” on July 16 at Canine Partners, a charity in Heyshott, where dogs hold much more weight than commodities and can do more than simply “Fetch.”

The British charity, founded in 1990 and devoted to helping the 1.2 million people in the UK who use wheelchairs, trains dogs that are able to perform everyday human-like tricks, including but not limited to pressing buttons and switches, doing laundry, and using ATM machines.

After touring the facilities, Prince Harry played with puppies and even ended up as a part of an experiment as demonstration dog Doyle pulled off the gloves Prince Harry was wearing to put them in the laundry.

British Royalty Opens Clarence House Doors For Charity

The Duchess of Cornwall has auctioned a private tour of Clarence House, where she lives with Princes Charles, William and Harry, to raise money for a French medical clinic in London.

Camilla, who has been Patron of Dispensaire Francais since early 2009, follows Queen Elizabeth II and the Queen Mother, King Edward VII and Queen Victoria, the clinic’s first patron, in this traditional role.

Dispensaire provides medical services to French speaking patients who are unable to make use of the national health services. Open five days per week, the clinic is staffed by over two dozen volunteer doctors and specialists.

Prince Harry has paid a two day visit to Mozambique to visit minefields being cleared by The HALO Trust, a British charity and USA not-for-profit organization and the World’s largest demining agency.

Prince Harry’s visit, which was privately organized by HALO, has focused on the impact of mines on the civilian population. On Sunday, The Prince met villagers and amputees who told him about their plight among the remaining mines – including meeting a boy who lost his leg 18 months ago while herding cattle. Prince Harry spent the night in the HALO deminers’ tented camp. The Prince was given a close-up demonstration of the process of humanitarian demining, as he observed a team undertaking mineclearance work, and was then himself given the first stages in training on HALO equipment and clearance techniques. Prince Harry detonated mines under the supervision of expert HALO deminers.

Prince Harry is to join up with British pop princess Natasha Bedingfield for a giant benefit concert to raise funds for their African charities.

The Prince – who established Sentebale with Prince Seeiso of Lesotho to help children and young people in Lesotho – has met with Bedingfield’s mother, Molly, who runs the international children’s charity, Global Angels. Natasha Bedingfield is an ambassador for the charity, an “International Foundation championing the causes of children around the world and developing creative solutions through the lens of sustainability.”

“There will be a flagship concert in 2010 that will be televised around the world. Molly and Harry have had several meetings about it,” a source told Britain’s Daily Mail.

Prince Harry is Following Princess Diana’s Human Rights Lead

Prince Harry, a humanist reminiscent of his mother, the late Princess Diana, made it clear that he would like to make a difference as Diana had done in her lifetime.

He’s off to a good start. At the third anniversary of the charity he co-founded with Lesotho’s Prince Seeiso, who also lost his mother, Harry spoke about poverty, AIDS and their charity.

The Princes’ organisation is called Sentebale, Lesotho for “forget-me-not”, named in memory of their mothers but also for Lesotho AIDS orphans and victims of poverty.

Animated Frog Helps Raise Awareness Of Rainforests

London’s Picadilly Circus came alive last week when its iconic Coca Cola and McDonalds signs burst into life with the appearance of a new animated rainforest frog. St Trinian’s star Talulah Riley was on hand to launch the new initiative, which is part of an ongoing campaign for the Prince’s Rainforests Project.

The McDonald’s sign gives members of the public the chance to interact with the breathing frog, allowing them to be photographed in front of the screens with the frog seemingly on their hand, head or shoulder, in keeping with the PRP campaign video.

Prince Harry Plays Charity Polo In New York

Prince Harry arrived last Friday, May 29th, in the United States of America. For his first journey in New York, Harry chained together visits, inaugurations and matches of polo, and tried to represent to best the British royal family.

Hardly arrived at the Big Apple, Prince Harry – third in the order of succession to the throne – began with a visit to the site of the World Trade Center, destroyed by the events of September 11th, 2001. The Prince then inaugurated with emotion the British Garden of Manhattan – dedicated to 67 British victims of these attacks – by planting symbolically a magnolia within the framework of the campaign of Michael Bloomberg, mayor of New York, aiming to make the city more green.

Later, Prince Harry – who is presently undertaking a pilot’s training course in the army after having served in the land forces in Afghanistan – was keen to visit a health center for war veterans to speak to them.

Prince Harry To Visit Ground Zero

British Royal Prince Harry is to visit the site of the World Trade Centre to pay his respects to those who died in the September 11 2001 terrorist attacks and meet wounded US war veterans.

The trip will mark the Prince’s first official visit to the US, and will also see him take part in a charity exhibition polo match at the Veuve Clicquot Manhattan Polo Classic on New York’s historic Governors Island on May 30, to raise funds for Sentebale, a charity he founded in 2006 with Lesotho’s Prince Seeiso to help the orphans of Lesotho. The match will be the first of a series of events on Governors Island that will celebrate the 400th anniversary of New York.

The Prince will meet a group of families who lost loved ones in the September 11 terrorist attacks, and formally name the British Garden at Hanover Square, which commemorates the 67 British people who died in the attacks.

Prince Charles Joins Kermit And Friends For The Rainforests

Prince Charles has launched a new online video to promote the protection of rainforests, and he has called on some of his celebrity friends to help.

The 90-second video features appearances by Harrison Ford, Prince William and Prince Harry, Robin Williams, Daniel Craig, Kermit The Frog, Joss Stone, footballer Pelé and the Dalai Lama. Each star in the film talks of their support for the halting of tropical rainforest deforestation, and is joined on-camera by an animated Argentinean Horned Frog, a symbol of the rainforest.

“One of the Internet’s strengths is that it can enable diverse communities to come together to ensure that everybody’s views and actions can really be made to count,” Prince Charles said in a webcast to launch the video. “Our aim, with your help, is to build an online community to call, from the bottom up, for urgent action to protect the rainforests, without which we will most certainly lose the battle against catastrophic climate change.”
