2011 marks a banner year for WhyHunger with the most successful Hungerthon in the annual event’s 26-year history! Aided by its partners at SiriusXM, CBS Radio (including NYC’s WFAN 660 and WCBS 880), and charitybuzz, WhyHunger raised a record $764,000 for the fight against hunger and poverty, via its online auction and two-day radiothon.

Pete Townshend, The Feeling and Boy George were part of a star-studded line up that rocked the Royal Albert Hall for The Prince’s Trust Rock Gala supported by Novae.

The music extravaganza, hosted by Edith Bowman and Patrick Kielty, raised vital funds – and the roof – for the youth charity’s vital work with disadvantaged young people. The fundraiser comes in the wake of news that more than a million 16 to 24 year-olds are out of work, the highest number since records began in 1992.

On Sunday 30 October, British broadcasting legend Sir Terry Wogan will take his Radio 2 show to the Savoy Theatre on the Strand for the BBC Children in Need charity.

Currently home to the hit musical Legally Blonde, the Savoy Theatre has been an integral part of the Strand since opening it’s doors in 1881. Thousands of votes were cast in this year’s poll on PETA.org.uk to help PETA choose the winners, who faced stiff competition from 99 other finalists, including Leona Lewis, Joss Stone, Russell Brand, Sir Paul McCartney, Joaquin Phoenix, Natalie Portman and Chantelle Houghton.

The stars were shocked to learn that every batch of botox that hits the high street is tested on animals. Botox is used by huge numbers of people worldwide for cosmetic purposes.

“We can stop this cruel and unnecessary act by bringing light to what has clearly been done in darkness for too long,” said Joss Stone. “I think it is a sick way to test something that is for cosmetic use. They are not trying to cure cancer here; this is about smoothing the wrinkles on the faces of women and men. How many innocent animals have to suffer? Rod Stewart has donated tickets to a charity initiative that Jeremy Clarkson once described as being “even better than sliced bread.”

Stewart has donated tickets to his upcoming shows at the Sheffield Arena on July 20 and the Glasgow SECC on July 26 to Tickets for Troops. Tickets For Troops was set up last year to provide top tickets to sporting, musical and entertainment events to troops and their families during these difficult times. Patrons of charity include Samantha Cameron, Dame Vera Lynn, Andrew Flintoff, Gavin Hastings, Joanna Lumley, Alan Shearer, James Blunt, Ian Botham and Joss Stone.

Members of the Armed Forces and veterans medically discharged since 2001 are eligible for top tickets to the shows.

Eurythmics legend Dave Stewart has launched a new video contest with Stand Up To Cancer.

The star is inviting YOU to record a new version of the song and video he created especially for the charity, Up2You. The winning entry will be included in this year’s massive television event in September.

Idol Gives Back rocked television sets across the US last night to raise funds for charity, with a show that saw performances by Elton John and Alicia Keys, as well as the departure of another contestant.

American Idol contestant Tim Urban was voted off the special edition of the show that has already raised more than $15 million for charities such as the Children’s Health Fund, Feeding America, Save the Children, the United Nations Foundation and Malaria No More.

Joining Elton, Alicia and the contestants live on the show were Justin Bieber, Carrie Underwood, Joss Stone, Mary J. Blige, The Black Eyed Peas and Jeff Beck. Musician Dave Stewart has donated the suit he wore when he accepted the Awards for Outstanding Contribution to British Music for Eurythmics (Silver Clefs Award by the Nordoff Robbins Foundation) in 2000 to the world’s leading Eurythmics fan site for a charity competition.

Prince Charles thanked a number of high-profile celebrities for their support of his Prince’s Trust this week by holding a special garden party at his Highgrove home near Tetbury, in Gloucestershire.

Along with the Duchess of Cornwall, Prince Charles wined and dined over 100 guests, including Phil Collins – the Trust’s first ambassador – as well as Bryan Adams, Phillip Schofield, Gary Lineker, Sir Ben Kingsley, Jenson Button, Amanda Burton, Sanjeev Bhaskar, Jeremy Irons, Joss Stone, Kate Adie, Aleisha Dixon and many others. The celebrity ambassadors were given a tour of the Highgrove estate in the late summer sun before lunching on asparagus and pea risotto followed by summer berries with pannacotta.

“I have been a Prince’s Trust ambassador for going back 20 years and it is has been a real privilege to be able to meet people who have benefited from the scheme and turned their life around,” said Gary Linekar.

Animated Frog Helps Raise Awareness Of Rainforests

London’s Picadilly Circus came alive last week when its iconic Coca Cola and McDonalds signs burst into life with the appearance of a new animated rainforest frog. St Trinian’s star Talulah Riley was on hand to launch the new initiative, which is part of an ongoing campaign for the Prince’s Rainforests Project.

The McDonald’s sign gives members of the public the chance to interact with the breathing frog, allowing them to be photographed in front of the screens with the frog seemingly on their hand, head or shoulder, in keeping with the PRP campaign video.

Singer Annie Lennox was in Norway last week to host a special event that aimed to raise money and awareness for the SING Campaign against AIDS.

The singer performed in Oslo on May 15 at an event in which guests were required to make a minimum donation of NOK 1,000 to the SING Campaign in order to redeem an invite.
