Charity biography
Keys is the ambassador for Keep A Child Alive, and has travelled to Africa to visit one of their clinics. While she was there she spoke to teens and young adults who’ve lost their parents to AIDS and are now the heads of their own households.
Keys was also the musical director for the 2006 Keep A Child Alive Charity Gala, and offered a private concert as a prize in an auction to benefit the charity.
In an interview with DoSomething.org, Keys had the following to say:
“For me, the glitz and glamour of the celebrity world is empty. It can be superficial and there is nothing fulfilling about living a surface life. I know what struggle is and I know how it feels for no one to pay attention to your pains and struggles. I’ve always wanted to be the voice of the people and be able to help bring attention to things that need it and need to be changed. To me, there is nothing more inspiring than that.”
