Elijah Wood To Be Honored At Charity Gala

On January 14th, the night before the Golden Globes, The Art of Elysium will celebrate its fifth annual HEAVEN Gala, honoring Lord Of The Rings star Elijah Wood.

This fall The Art of Elysium celebrated 14 years of providing creative arts programming for hospitalized youth in Los Angeles and New York. This year’s Visionary and creative force behind HEAVEN is Cameron Silver, founder and co-owner of Decades. The organization is thrilled to unveil his idea of heaven on earth, or “elysium”, on January 14th. The charity will also recognize Elijah Wood as their 2012 Spirit of Elysium Recipient for his years of volunteerism and tireless fundraising efforts on their behalf.

Kate Winslet will be releasing a special book to benefit her autism charity, the Golden Hat Foundation, in April 2012, and has called on some of her famous friends to help.

The book features a collection of stunning self-portraits from celebrities and cultural luminaries, all wearing a “magical” hat to support autism awareness and outreach.

Winslet has amassed a collection of photos from an amazing array of her friends and renowned personalities who have donned this special hat, taken a self portrait, and passed the hat along from one person to another. Kate Winslet has asked some of her celebrity friends to wear a special “magic” hat for a new book benefiting her autism charity, the Golden Hat Foundation.

Winslet has amassed a collection of photos from an amazing array of her friends and renowned personalities who have donned this special hat, taken a self portrait, and passed the hat along from one person to another. Winslet found inspiration for this project in her friends Margret Dagmar Ericsdottir and Ericsdottir"s son Keli, who lives with a severe form of non-verbal autism. Winslet met Ericsdottir when she narrated a documentary film, A Mother’s Courage: Talking Back To Autism, about the family"s mission to find a way to connect with Keli. Eventually specialists “unlocked” Keli by teaching him ways to communicate. Despite hardship, Keli now composes beautiful and deeply moving poetry. One of the poems, among the many included in the book, is called “The Golden Hat,” which describes a magical hat that enables an autistic boy to communicate.

Alicia Keys Urges Celebrity Friends To Sacrifice Digital Life For Charity

A number of celebrities are giving up their Facebook and Twitter accounts as part of a new charity initiative for Alicia Keys’ Keep A Child Alive.

The campaign – called Digital Life Sacrifice – will see stars such as Lady Gaga, Justin Timberlake and Usher stay away from their computers from December 1 until Keys’ charity raises $1 million.

“It’s really important and super-cool to use mediums that we naturally are on,” says Alicia. "It’s so important to shock you to the point of waking up. It’s not that people don’t care or it’s not that people don’t want to do something, it’s that they never thought of it quite like that.

Halloween in Hollywood is kind of a big deal. After all, we have access to some of the best costume departments in the world! So choosing where to spend it can be a big decision. Last Saturday night (October 30), Be Cause and The Art of Elysium held its 5th Annual Halloween Ball to benefit children being treated for illness and serious injury … and this is where we chose to kick off our night.

The Party was held at brand new venue 1616 in downtown LA. I’m a West Hollywood girl, so going this far east is a bit of a trek by LA standards… but this edgy new venue was a total treat. It lent itself to a good lay-out to separate the Silent Auction from the dancing.

Lord of the Rings star and celebrity DJ Elijah Wood has brought together some of his favorite artist for a charity album benefiting The Art of Elysium.

With artists including The Kills, Sonic Youth, Sleepy Sun, Black Mountain, Sleigh Bells, the Soft Pack, and Ty Segall, the album is a great overview of some of the most sonically interesting indie rock that’s being created today. The participating labels, the artists, and Apple are donating their share of the proceeds to the Art of Elysium.

Lord of the Rings star Elijah Wood was in Chile this week to help rescue pets abandoned after February’s devastating earthquake.

The actor is helping the Yarur Bascunan Foundation in their work rescuing strays – over 200,000 homeless dogs are estimated to roam the streets of the country’s capital alone.

“I’m interested in getting involved, because I love animals,” said the actor. “I have three dogs, and grew up with dogs and cats. I like the initiative. As a human being, I am interested in the welfare of animals and people. There are many dogs in the streets that are without protection. This is the first foundation I have participated in.”

Artist Shepard Fairey (creator of “Obey Giant” and the force behind the Obama “Hope” poster) is this year’s visionary and will create all visual and conceptual aspects of the themed gala entitled “Heaven”.

“When I was asked by The Art of Elysium to conceive my vision of heaven, I immediately thought of a world where creativity, compassion and connection are celebrated,” he said. “I thought of humanity and nature existing in harmony; after all, humans are part of nature, not above nature, and connected to one another just the same. We need to look out for each other and understand how our actions impact others and the planet we inhabit.”

Elijah Wood Donates DNA To Charity Auction

Lord of the Rings actor Elijah Wood has partnered up with DNA 11 to raise funds for the children’s charity The Art of Elysium through an online auction with eBay’s “Giving Works” program.

DNA 11 will be giving 100% of the proceeds from this art auction to The Art of Elysium. Elijah will provide DNA 11 with some of his DNA and they will in turn produce a unique, one-of-a-kind piece of artwork for the auction.

“I believe that art is the DNA of civilization and the fact that DNA 11 is taking art a step forward and incorporating humanity into canvases illustrates how essential the creative process is to our being. On behalf of The Art of Elysium, I am genuinely thrilled and honored to be a part of their process,” states Jennifer Howell, Founder of The Art of Elysium.

The countdown to Christmas has begun, and celebrities are doing their best to make holiday shopping easy this year. Several charity auctions have already kicked off to raise money for good causes, including one that may be eBay’s largest sale of celebrity items… ever!

The BID 2 BEAT AIDS online auction will open on December 1, World AIDS Day, and will feature over 1000 specially signed items, ranging from posters to iPods. The annual auction will raise money for LIFEbeat, the music industry’s AIDS fundraising and service charity, and in the past has raised up to $175,000.

The array of memorabilia up for sale this year is simply colossal, with perhaps the most interesting items being a series of “Lend a Hand to LIFEbeat” cards that feature the handprints of over 100 celebrities. Stars such as Britney Spears, Jack Black, and Kathy Griffin traced around the outlines of their hands and decorated their artworks for the auction, and the finished products will make a unique addition to any Christmas stocking.
