Teri Hatcher Creates Bread Art For Charity

Nearly 17 million children in America – almost one in four – struggle with hunger. To help provide hungry children in the United States access to the nutritious meals they need to lead healthy lives, the non-profit Grain Foods Foundation has teamed up with TV’s favorite housewife, Teri Hatcher, and Share Our Strength, a national nonprofit focused on alleviating childhood hunger, to launch the 2011 Bread Art Project.

The campaign engages consumers in an effort to help nourish children in need while simultaneously providing nutrition information.

The Bread Art Project serves as a digital fundraising mechanism for Share Our Strength’s efforts to end childhood hunger in America by 2015. Consumers are encouraged to help fight childhood hunger by visiting breadartproject.com to create a personalized piece of bread art – at no cost – by uploading a favorite drawing or photo, or designing a new one using a digital slice of bread as the canvas. For each piece of approved bread art created from April 1 through June 30, 2011, the Grain Foods Foundation will donate $1 to Share Our Strength.

Teri Hatcher Completes Second Triathlon For Charity

Teri Hatcher once again competed in the Nautica Malibu Triathlon for charity over the weekend.

“Thank you dear fans for your help for Children’s Hospital Los Angeles,” wrote Teri after the race. "I made it. I did not drown, I do however have many other funny stories to tell But need some rest. It was COLD so cold that some people had to be pulled out and I noticed one woman so disoriented she swam around the buoy twice before a life guard helped straighten her out. I ended up having to backstroke most of the way. But I made it and even ran, slowly, to my bike Tri team partner.

Band From TV – the celebrity-studded band that plays exclusively for charity – will play in Chicago next month as part of the Taste of Chicago Food Festival.

Consisting of stars such as Greg Grunberg, Bob Guiney, Bonnie Somerville, Hugh Laurie, James Denton, Jesse Spencer and Teri Hatcher, the band provides funding and resources for charities including the Epilepsy Foundation, Save the Children, The Art of Elysium, Child Abuse Prevention Program, Conservation Fund, IU-Kenya Partnership, Rush Epilepsy Center, National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, and the Guitar Center Music Foundation.

The Band From TV Global Charity Trust was created to provide funding for several worthwhile charities, and to raise money through music to help those in need. Grunberg started the band after being asked to get a few celebrities to play together at the House Of Blues for charity. The event sparked a great amount of interest, and has led to a number of gigs in the US which have, according to Hugh Laurie, “raised a gargantuan sum of money for charity.”

Teri Hatcher And Edward Norton Launch Charity Websites

Teri Hatcher and Edward Norton have both launched websites designed to help make the world a better place.

Teri’s new website, GetHatched.com, has been created with Disney to give women a place to be empowered.

“Women, in all of our multi-tasking, chore-juggling, diverse-life role-playing glory, are the force behind everything,” she writes. "We are the caregivers, the nurturers, the lovers, and teachers. We do the laundry, clean the house, feed the pets, drive the carpool, and as if that wasn’t enough of a job, we often bring home the bacon. (And then cook it, too!)

Teri Hatcher Desperate To Play Charity Golf

Teri Hatcher, star of ABC’s hit show “Desperate Housewives”, will play in the Pro-Am at The Principal Charity Classic on Wednesday, June 2, 2010.

Teri Hatcher’s wildly successful portrayal of Susan Mayer in the award-winning ABC Comedy “Desperate Housewives” earned her a 2005 Golden Globe Award and Screen Actors Guild Award, and a 2005 Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy. The role of the single mom searching for love in the sometimes sordid, always intriguing world of Wisteria Lane has vaulted Hatcher to the pinnacle of today’s hottest comic actresses.

Hatcher’s success has continued to grow since her days starring as the unforgettable Lois Lane in the 1994-97 series “Lois & Clark.” She recently became a New York Times best-selling author with her first book, Burnt Toast and other Philosophies of Life, which was released in May 2006. In the critically acclaimed bestseller, she offers a personal, heartfelt and often very funny manifesto on life, love and the lessons we all need to learn—and unlearn—on the road to happiness.

Teri Hatcher To Launch Website For Women

Teri Hatcher has launched a new website to give women a forum to talk about problems they are facing.

The 45-year-old star is creating the site with Disney to reach out to women through articles, blogs and videos. She plans to oversee the site personally.

“I just want to create a go-to respite for women where they can find a shoulder to lean on,” she said. "I hope what you get from it is a sense of honesty, candidness and the understanding that wacky things happen to all of us. I love to get at problems through humor.

Humane Society To Hold Star-Studded Genesis Awards This Weekend

Animal welfare warriors shouldn’t forget The Humane Society’s 24th annual Genesis Awards this Saturday, March 20.

This year will see Melanie Griffith present a lifetime achievement award to her mother, 80-year-old Tippi Hedren, for dedicating the last 40 years to the protection of animals and raising awareness of the exotic pet trade.

“Tippi is an extraordinary woman – both a hands-on caregiver to 63 discarded big cats at the Shambala Preserve, as well as a tireless activist who continues to work in support of federal legislation that would ban the breeding of and the trade in exotic animals in the U.S.,” said Beverly Kaskey, senior director of the Hollywood office of The Humane Society of the United States and executive producer of the annual Genesis Awards.

Desperate Housewives Join The Muppets For Charity Initiative

Disney Parks is launching a program that celebrates the spirit of volunteer service with a simple proposition: “Give a Day, Get a Disney Day.” And they’ve enlisted Teri Hatcher and James Denton and some madcap Muppets to help.

Disney hopes to inspire families to volunteer in their communities during 2010 through this first-of-its-kind program. One million people who perform volunteer service for a participating organization will receive a free one-day admission ticket to a Walt Disney World Resort or Disneyland Resort theme park.

“As you can see there’s lots of volunteers here and they’re excited about it, too,” said Hatcher in a PSA with Denton and The Muppets. “I’m a big believer in volunteering, and honestly the feeling that you get when you volunteer and give back is everything — and you wouldn’t even need the Disney day, but that’s the icing on the cake.”

Celebrities who will accept awards on behalf of the charities being honored include Laila Ali (Women’s Sports Foundation), Billy Bush (Lollipop Theater Network), Kenny Edmonds (Stand Up To Cancer), Teri Hatcher (Children’s Hospital Los Angeles), Norman Lear (Playing for Change), Joel Madden (The Art of Elysium), AnnaLynne McCord (The Blind Project), Nancy O’Dell (Best Buddies International), Eva Longoria Parker (Padres Contra El Cancer) and Brett Ratner (DoSomething.org). During the ceremony, each will be presented with an award sculpture, designed by Antonio Banderas, with personal touches added by children who participated in The Art of Elysium workshop at the Shriners Hospitals for Children. Brian McKnight and Julio Iglesias, Jr., along with Emily Bear and Timothy Mitchum will provide live musical performances throughout the evening.

Teri Hatcher Completes Triathlon For Charity

Desperate Housewives star Teri Hatcher was one of several stars to compete for charity in the 2009 Nautica Malibu Triathlon during the weekend.

“I’m still standing , yeah yeah yeah,” blogged the star. "What a great experience I had doing my first official triathlon. Many many thanks to all those who donated! I couldn’t have had more generous support from friends, family and fans. I couldn’t have been with a nicer more supportive team than Team Disney. We raised funds for Children’s Hospital Los Angeles in record numbers. I am proud and grateful and humbled by all the efforts put forth by the thousands of contestants and spectators.

“I have a new article posting on Modernmom.com on finishing the triathlon called “To compete or not to compete” and an earlier written one called “How is motherhood like a triathlon.” Please visit their site for some light fun reading."
