Prince Charles Revisits London Riot Victims

Prince Charles and The Duchess of Cornwall returned to Tottenham last week, seeing the progress that has been made to regenerate the area six months after it was affected by the London riots.

Visiting in August last year, The Prince was keen that his charities continue to work in Tottenham, and last week Their Royal Highnesses saw first-hand the regeneration projects taking place.

Their Royal Highnesses began their visit at the site of the new Post Office after it was previously destroyed during the riots, meeting representatives from Haringey Council and MP David Lammy to talk about how the area is recovering with the help of the borough and The Prince’s Charities.

Prince Charles Optimistic About Fish Stocks

Prince Charles has said that despite evidence about the continued decline of the world’s fish stocks there is real cause for optimism about the future of this vital resource.

Citing a new report published last week by his International Sustainability Unit (ISU), The Prince says that if sustainable management of fisheries is applied more widely the long-term benefits will be seen in larger catches at sea, higher earnings, more secure jobs and healthier marine ecosystems.

However, His Royal Highness warns that if action is not taken now to significantly increase the sustainable management of fish stocks worldwide then the current alarming situation may become even more serious and, ultimately, irreversible.

Prince Charles' Charity Promises Riot Donation

Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall recently met young people from some of the communities most affected by the London riots at The Prince’s Trust centre in Hackney.

The visit comes as The Prince of Wales’ youth charity – The Prince’s Trust – announces plans to double its support for young people across five of the areas hardest hit by the England riots, including Manchester, Birmingham and the London communities of Hackney, Tottenham and Croydon.

The Trust is planning a £2.5 million investment in these areas, giving disadvantaged young people positive opportunities to keep their lives on track. As well as committing £1 million from funds already raised, the charity is calling on the business community to back a £1.5 million fundraising drive to raise the rest of the cash.

Charles And Camilla Rock The Royal Albert Hall For Charity

Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall attended a massive charity rock concert in London last night to benefit the Prince’s Trust.

Phil Collins, Tom Jones, Jamie Cullum, Eric Clapton, Queen’s Brian May and Roger Taylor, Status Quo, Live Aid creator Midge Ure and many others hit the stage at the Royal Albert Hall on November 17 for the charity’s Rock Gala 2010. The evening was hosted by comedian Rob Brydon, Barry Humphries as his hilarious alter ego Dame Edna Everage. The show was filmed in 3D for a future release.

In the 1980s The Prince’s Trust was synonymous with the Rock Gala. The fundraising concerts were created when the UK economy was gripped by inflation, strikes and high unemployment following recession. Britain’s youth had little hope and no future. The Trust called upon supporters including Paul McCartney, Mick Jagger, Brian May and Tina Turner to form ‘super groups’, raising money to help the most disadvantaged young people.

Russell Brand Surprises Scottish Teenager With Charity Award

Scottish teenager Ryan McLaughlin, whose Shine on Scotland campaign aims to raise awareness of the importance of Vitamin D in the battle against Multiple Sclerosis, has been awarded a Pride of Britain Award by Russell Brand.

The comedian made a surprise visit to the Scottish parliament last week to make the announcement while 15-year-old Ryan was making a speech… although he made a minor mistake of confusing Ryan with his brother Darren.

“What a wonderful person you are and what a wonderful example of how things that are difficult and challenging in life can be turned around if you have a beautiful spirit like you obviously do have,” said Russell Brand.

Idris Elba Goes To The Wire For Prince's Trust

Before Idris Elba became a household name for his role as drug dealer Russell “Stringer” Bell in hit TV series The Wire, his acting career received a kick start from a UK-based charity – and now Elba is giving back to the British charity by filming a motivational documentary for the organization.

"I grew up around people who have gone through hardship and crime and I knew people who were criminals," said Elba, “My character in The Wire harvests kids who have come out of school and into crime. But there are a lot of talented kids out there who just need a foot in the door.”

The London-born actor is an anti-crime ambassador for the Prince’s Trust, a UK charity set up by British royal Charles, Prince of Wales. The company gave him a $2,400 (£1,500) grant as a teenager, which paid for his place at the National Youth Music Theatre.

Roger Moore Steps Up Battle Against Foie Gras

Former James Bond star Roger Moore is continuing his fight against British supermarkets that stock Foie Gras by paying for and appearing in a new PETA ad placed outside the entrance to Selfridges Food Hall in central London.

Foie Gras is a pâté made from the livers of ducks and geese, and the actor is campaigning against the cruel way producers fatten the livers – up to two kilograms of mash are pumped into the birds’ stomachs through a pipe two or three times a day. The pipes sometimes puncture the birds’ throats, causing the animals to bleed to death.

The actor originally had a different image from the one used in mind, but the advertising agency deemed it as offensive.
