Stars Love Music, Love Food For Charity

A host of stars have been photographed with their favorite foods and drinks for a new celebrity charity book due out this year.

Love Music, Love Food will feature stars such as Paul Weller (photographed with a latte), Noel Gallagher (a cup of tea), and The Killers’ Brandon Flowers (a mexican meal).

Proceeds from the book will go to the Teenage Cancer Trust, a British charity that focuses on the needs of teenagers and young adults with cancer, leukaemia, Hodgkin’s and related diseases. TCT’s top priority is building units in NHS hospitals specifically for teenagers with cancer. As well as superior medical facilities, these units are equipped with day rooms, kitchens and chill-out rooms where teenagers can relax and feel at home or have friends and family to visit in a comfortable environment. There are computers with internet access, pool tables, playstations, satellite TV, musical instruments, and other things teenagers might like to occupy their time with, or share with friends. Most importantly, the units provide an environment where teenagers can meet others in a similar situation and allow patients to build friendships and mechanisms to cope with their disease.

Meg Mathews Says No To Baby Monkey Trade

Celebrity ‘it-girl’, former wife of Noel Gallagher, and designer Meg Mathews has publically spoken out against the brutality of the trade in monkeys for experiments with the British Union for the Abolition of Vivisection’s (BUAV) hard-hitting campaign Stop the Baby Trade.

Meg Mathews was shocked by the BUAV’s evidence of the brutality and cruelty inflicted on our close living relatives during their capture, confinement, caging, transportation and eventual death in the laboratory. Speaking out on film for the BUAV, Meg reveals the cruel trade in monkeys for research. “These monkeys are snatched from the wild, imprisoned in farms and forced to produce babies who are snatched from them and later sent as airline cargo on long journeys overseas for the research industry.”

In the film, Meg reflects on one of the most abhorrent practices faced by victims of the monkey trade – the forced early separation of a mother from her infant. “As a mother I can’t imagine the pain and distress of having my child ripped from my arms” says mother of one, Meg. Imprisoned on breeding farms, wild-caught mothers can have their babies taken from them at just six months of age. Weaning for monkeys is a gradual process, and in the wild monkeys normally remain with their family group for many years, sometimes for life. Forcibly separating infants from their mothers is extremely cruel and distressing for both mother and baby.

It's Snow Patrol Versus Cancer At Charity Gig

British band Snow Patrol will headline a very special charity gig in Manchester in December.

The band is the latest group to sign on for the show – organized by The Smiths’ Andy Rourke – to benefit Versus Cancer, a charity dedicated to making a difference to people suffering from cancer, both in the UK and around the world.

The concert is the latest in a series of concerts organized by the charity. The organization has been behind performances from the likes of Noel Gallagher, Paul Weller, New Order, Ian Brown, The Happy Mondays, The Fun Lovin Criminals, The Enemy and The Fratelli’s and have instigated partial Smiths and Stone Roses reunions.

Roger Daltrey Plans To Pass The Charity Torch

Singer Roger Daltrey reportedly plans to step down from his role as organizer of the annual Teenage Cancer Trust concerts and pass the torch to musicians of a younger generation.

Daltrey – singer for The Who – has been behind the concerts since 2000, and has asked Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher and Stereophonics singer Kelly Jones to take on the responsibility.

“I would like to take the model of what we’ve done here and concentrate on getting it started in other countries now,” said Daltrey. “It does take an awful lot of energy. I call it my ‘yearly breakdown’. I would love to find someone from a younger generation to take over from me.”

Jack Johnson, Oasis, Radiohead Appear On Charity CD

Urban Outfitters and Filter Magazine have teamed up to create the fifth installment of the Give.Listen.Help compilation CD to raise money for the Pablove Foundation.

The Pablove Foundation is named after Pablo Castelaz, the five-year-old son of Dangerbird Records co-founder Jeff Castelaz and his wife Jo Ann Thrailkill. On May 17, 2008, Pablo was diagnosed with bilateral Wilms’ Tumor, a rare form of children’s cancer. The cancer appeared out of nowhere, with no warning signs in Pablo’s general demeanor or health. He is currently undergoing treatment at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, and is doing extremely well. Thanks to decades of research and treatment at places like CHLA, Wilms’ Tumor is over 90% curable.

A large percentage of the proceeds from the CD ($13.88 of every $14.99) will be donated to the Foundation, which directly supports the pediatric cancer community in and around CHLA.

Pete Doherty Inspires Young Cancer Sufferer

The press sometimes gives celebrities a hard time, concentrating on their problems rather than celebrating the good things that they do. One recent victim has been singer Pete Doherty, who has been quietly helping sick teenagers – such as 16-year-old British schoolboy Dan Squires, who was diagnosed with terminal cancer last November – without any publicity. Doherty not only invited the boy to one of his Babyshambles gigs, but also struck up a friendship with him.

“I only expected a meet-and-greet, but I got my own dressing room, watched the whole gig from the stage, hung out with the band afterwards and then got taken to the after-show party,” said Squires, who suffered a stroke last month and is now confined to a wheelchair. “It was incredible what they did because they didn’t need to do that.”

Squires, who has also met Oasis star Noel Gallagher and The Who’s Roger Daltrey, took gifts to one of Doherty’s gigs last week, and was surprised at the band’s response.

Noel Gallagher & The Who Perform For Cancer Charity

A six-day series of concerts for the Teenage Cancer Trust at London’s Royal Albert Hall will begin on March 26th, boasting Noel Gallagher and The Who among its line-up of stars.

The Who frontman Roger Daltrey has been a long-time patron of the annual event, but his group is appearing this year for the first time since the first event in 2000.

Daltrey announced the roster of performers on the charity’s website, saying, “Over the years these shows have really made a massive difference to the money available to build TCT units in NHS hospitals. They also give our teenagers the moral support to help fight this terrible disease.”
