Alicia Keys Announces Celebrity Charity Black Ball

Alicia Keys and Mark Ronson will join forces in London next month to host the annual Keep A Child Alive Black Ball.

Pete Doherty To Get His Kit On For Celebrity Charity Soccer

The latest line up has been announced for this year’s Celebrity Soccer Six events at Charlton Athletic Football Club on Bank Holiday Monday May 30th and Burnley Football Club on Sunday June 5th.

Damien Hirst Puts The Squeeze On Charity

An exclusive set of instruments customized by Damien Hirst and created especially for British band Squeeze, will take centre stage when the band perform at Concerts for Teenage Cancer Trust at the Royal Albert Hall on 22 March 2011.

Squeeze will be joined by a 30 piece orchestra and long-time friends and collaborators The Feeling, on the second night of Teenage Cancer Trust’s 2011 series of fundraising concerts at the iconic venue. 

 The Damien Hirst collection features two ‘Spot Guitars’, a Fender Telecaster and a Fender Stratocaster, as well as a Yamaha ‘Spot Drum Kit’. All the instruments are hand painted by Hirst with his iconic spot design and signed by the artist himself.

Mark Ronson To Host Brit Awards Charity Party

Superstar DJ Mark Ronson will host this year’s War Child Brit Awards afterparty in London on February 15.

Ronson will be joined by special guests during the show – to be held at Indigo2, next door to the Brit Awards’ O2 Arena venue – and previous years have seen performances by Coldplay, Bono, The Killers, Kasabian and Take That’s Gary Barlow.

“Being asked to play the War Child post-Brits show is such a giant honor,” says Ronson. "And since I’m guilty of YouTubing the 2009 clip of Coldplay and Gary Barlow doing “Back For Good” for War Child at least 180 times, I know we better pull off some magical moments."

Stereophonics Drummer Remembered With Charity Single

Stuart Cable, the former drummer of the rock band Stereophonics, was found dead on June 7th – and in his memory, his most recent band, Killing for Company, has released a single called “Former Mining Town.” It has also been called the Official Stuart Cable Memorial Single.

The single has been supported by various different bands including Stuart Cable’s previous band, Stereophonics.

“Myself, Richard and the boys would like everyone to join us in supporting Killing For Company’s charity single, ‘Former Mining Town.’ Stuart was our lifelong friend and brother; he will be sadly missed. Let’s give him and his boys a final shout, and also to Teenage Cancer Trust, a charity we have supported for 10 years with Roger Daltrey. Thank you. Alicia Keys Holds Annual Charity Ball In London

Alicia Keys was in London last week for her annual Black Ball to benefit her charity Keep A Child Alive, where she was joined onstage by British rockers Kasabian.

Held at St John Smith Square in Westminster, the ball also featured an auction hosted by Thandie Newton that saw a massive number of rare celebrity items go under the hammer for charity. Items included the shoes worn by Keys in her Put It In A Love Song video with Beyonce, and a guitar signed by Kasabian. A photo opportunity with Keys and OK! Magazine went for £12,000, and the chance to record with Swizz Beatz – who has just announced he is the father of Keys’ baby – went to boyband JLS for £30,000.

Other stars spotted at the event were Katie Price, Bryan Ferry and Tinchy Stryder.

British Bands To Play For Youth Music Charity

British band The Enemy and singing sensation Little Boots are to play gigs as part of a forthcoming exhibition project by photographer Rankin for children’s music charity Youth Music.

Youth Music is the UK’s largest children’s music charity, set up in 1999 to promote and support music making opportunities and to provide advice to children from birth – 18 with the least access, including some of the UK’s most disadvantaged young people. Youth Music works alongside the formal and community-based sectors to support music-making and training.

The acts are set to play at London’s Phillips de Pury Gallery on November 12 and 13, and are part of a week-long series of music and art events.

Jude Law Launches Peace Day Video Contest

Peace One Day’s annual International Day of Peace will take place on September 21, and actor Jude Law is encouraging people to enter a new video competition to celebrate the initiative.

World Peace Day has been held on September 21 annually since 2001, when the United Nations General Assembly unanimously adopted September 21 as a day of global ceasefire and non-violence. The initiative came from an idea by Jeremy Gilley, who founded his non-profit organization – Peace One Day – in 1999. Since then he has amassed an impressive list of supporters, including Chris Martin, Sir Richard Branson, Angelina Jolie, Alan Rickman, and Michael Douglas.

This year’s World Peace Day will be preceded by a concert featuring Lenny Kravitz and Kasabian in Paris, and the organization has launched the video competition to help spread the word of peace. Kasabian and Lenny Kravitz have been confirmed to play at a one-off gig at the Paris Le Grand Rex to mark Peace Day next month.

“I’m delighted to support Peace One Day once again to take the message of Peace Day to the people,” said Kravitz. “Peace One Day is all about uniting the world, and music can drive that message. I’m pleased to be carrying the torch for POD this year.”

Paul Weller To Play Charity Concert For The Rainforests

Former frontman of The Jam, Paul Weller, is to play a special gig in support of Prince Charles’ The Prince’s Rainforests Project.

The concert, to take place on July 10, will be held at Cornwall’s Eden Project in the UK. Designed as an environmental education facility, the Eden Project consists of a number of domes that house plant species from around the world, each dome emulating a natural biome. The Prince’s Rainforests Project aims to encourage collective action in the fight against climate change.

The Teenage Cancer Trust has announced the lineup for their annual concert season at the Royal Albert Hall in London in March.

Among the acts to perform this year – the ninth year the concerts have been held – are Kasabian and the Stereophonics. The concerts will culminate in a night of comedy hosted by Matthew Horne and James Corden, the stars of British TV series Gavin and Stacey.

“It’s great we can continue to support Teenage Cancer Trust and help them make a difference,” said Kasabian lead singer, Tom Meighan. “We were inspired after meeting some of the teenagers with cancer at our gigs last year and it really made us want to do more for the charity.”

Phil Collins Joins Drummers For Charity Auction

The Killers Play Surprise Charity Gig

The Killers played an unannounced acoustic set at the first of Mencap’s Little Noise Sessions in London on Saturday night.

The British rockers made their surprise appearance at a show that also featured Glasvegas, White Lies and Cage The Elephant. They played 3 songs, including Human, Smile Like You Mean It, and an inspired performance of Cyndi Lauper’s Girls Just Want to Have Fun.

Surprise acoustic performances are a traditional part of Mencap’s Little Noise Sessions. Last year, Bono and The Edge from U2 took to the stage unannounced and played four acoustic songs.

British Rockers To Go Acoustic For Mencap

Kasabian, Stereophonics, Keane, and Razorlight have all signed up to perform at this year’s Mencap Little Noise Sessions which take place across eleven days in November.

The acoustic shows will take place at Islington’s Union Chapel to raise money for the charity, which works with people who suffer from learning disabilities.

“We are really looking forward to playing the show for the Little Noise Sessions on behalf of Mencap,” said Kelly Jones from the Stereophonics. “To be able to do an acoustic show in such an intimate venue and be able to support such a worthy cause will be a really special thing to do and something we rarely get the chance to do. They came, they rocked, they conquered. 07/07/07 saw the Live Earth concerts take place on 7 continents, and the event will go down in history and in people’s hearts as one of the greatest spectacles ever staged.

Noel Gallagher & The Who Perform For Cancer Charity

A six-day series of concerts for the Teenage Cancer Trust at London’s Royal Albert Hall will begin on March 26th, boasting Noel Gallagher and The Who among its line-up of stars.

The Who frontman Roger Daltrey has been a long-time patron of the annual event, but his group is appearing this year for the first time since the first event in 2000.

Daltrey announced the roster of performers on the charity’s website, saying, “Over the years these shows have really made a massive difference to the money available to build TCT units in NHS hospitals. They also give our teenagers the moral support to help fight this terrible disease.”
