VH1 Divas To Return For Charity

After a four-year hiatus, VH1 will bring back the legendary live concert event “VH1 Divas” by featuring some of pop music’s most talented female artists – Adele, Kelly Clarkson, Leona Lewis and Miley Ray Cyrus. The “VH1 Divas” concert will be televised live on VH1 on Thursday, September 17 at 9:00pm.

Proceeds from the show will go to VH1’s Save The Music Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of education in America’s public schools by restoring music programs in cities across the country, and raising public awareness about the importance of music participation for our nation’s youth. Since VH1 Save The Music was created in 1997, more than $43 million worth of musical instruments have been donated to 1,600 public schools in 100 cities, improving the lives of more than 1.2 million children.

For the first time ever, these leading ladies at the top of their musical game will perform together live at the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) Howard Gilman Opera House in Brooklyn, New York. Continuing in true “Divas” tradition, the evening will feature a night of unforgettable performances from various performers, presenters and special guests. Additional performers and presenters will be announced in the coming weeks.

Fans can go now to Divas.VH1.com to submit a “Diva Stories” text or video testimonial that tells the world how their favorite diva has influenced their life. VH1 wants to hear from all Divas’ fans – favorite songs, favorite moments and the craziest things they’ve done to show their diva how they feel. Select testimonials may be featured online and on-air leading up to this year’s live telecast. Users will also be able to browse and view other’s testimonials as well as receive news and updates on “VH1 Divas.” In mid-August, VH1 will launch additional online elements including past performances and Divas-inspired music video playlists. Scarlett Johansson And Michael Caine Promote Peace Through Mediation

At the Nobel Peace Concert that Scarlett Johansson and Michael Caine hosted in Oslo, Norway, earlier this month, former Finnish president Martti Ahtisaari’s ‘mediation as a means to ending conflict and solving world problems’ was celebrated.

Ahtisaari, who received the 2008 Nobel Peace Prize at an award ceremony the day before, was honored for his many accomplishments in conflict areas across the globe. These include his work towards achieving independence for Namibia and for his peace-making efforts in Kosovo, Indonesia, Northern Ireland, Central Asia, the Horn of Africa and, most recently, Iraq.

Pleased to have won the prize, Ahtisaari hopes that it will help his Crisis Management Initiative (CMI) organization to promote peace and security around the world.

“The prize will make it easier to finance the organization,” he told Norwegian Broadcasting, “which in turn will make it easier for us to work.”

Norwegian Nobel Committee leader Ole Danbolt Mjøs said, “Through [Martti Ahtisaari’s] untiring efforts and good results, he has shown what role mediation of various kinds can play in the resolution of international conflicts. The Norwegian Nobel Committee wishes to express the hope that others may be inspired by his efforts and his achievements.”

Eager to share that message at the Nobel Peace Concert, Johansson said, “It is important to remind young people that peace is the only real victory.”

Diana Ross, Feist and Dierks Bentley were among the performers at the concert.

Michael Caine and Scarlett Johansson will co-host the 2008 Nobel Peace Concert honoring this year’s laureate, former Finnish President Martti Ahtisaari.

The show – which will take place in Oslo, Norway, on December 11 – will feature performances by Diana Ross, Feist, Dierks Bentley, Jason Mraz, Julieta Venegas and Seun Kuti, and will be televised in over 100 countries.

The Nobel Concert is an annual event, and has in the past been hosted by Kevin Spacey, Uma Thurman, Sharon Stone, Salma Hayek and many others.

Former Finnish president Ahtisaari received this year’s Nobel Peace Prize for his work in mediating conflicts around the world.

Charity Heavyweights Support Muhammad Ali

Celebrities and professional athletes are coming together for the 13th Annual Celebrity Fight Night in Phoenix, Arizona. The elite charity event set for March 24th is in honor of Muhammad Ali, and will see awards going to Sharon Stone, Donald Trump, NBA MVP Steve Nash of the Phoenix Suns and NFL Hall of Fame quarterback John Elway.

Tickets for the event start at $2,000, with a table for 10 ranging from $10,000-50,000. The evening features an auction with items such as dinner with Reba McEntire and a trip for two to the 2007 NBA All-Star Game in Las Vegas, including airfare, tickets to the All-Star festivities on Friday, Saturday and Sunday and hotel accommodations.

Diana Ross will be the headline performer for the event, with Reba McEntire as MC and 14-time Grammy Award winner David Foster as the Musical Director.

Sharon Stone will receive the “Muhammad Ali Humanitarian Award”. Stone has kept herself very busy with her humanitarian work, and so far this year has helped to raise $4.2 million for charity at Sir Elton John’s post-Oscar party, and led the charity auction at Cinema For Peace with Richard Gere.

Celebrity Fight Night has raised over $38 million in the last 12 years for the Celebrity Fight Night Foundation. The Muhammad Ali Parkinson Center at Barrow Neurological Institute is the primary beneficiary of the evening, with some funds going to other charities such as the Ali Care Program, which helps those without insurance get the care they need.
