Founded by actress/singer Kristin Chenoweth, Maddie’s Corner celebrates the bond between people and their pets while lending a helping paw to those in need. Its their mission to bring attention and support to animals in need – more specifically, homeless animals in shelters/rescue – and groups working on their behalf, as well as to highlight the many ways animals help people in need and enrich our lives. It hopes to increase awareness about responsible pet ownership and the joys of including animals in our lives, to educate about and to inspire humane attitudes toward animals, and to provide resources to those groups working directly with animals in need as well as those working with animals to assist people in need. In addition, we will periodically initiate activities benefiting human causes that will include the participation of animals to convey our message. The hallmark of Maddie’s Corner is that animals, whether as the message or the messengers, will always be active participants in our activities.

Jenny McCarthy Designs Fearless Shoes For Charity

Kim Kardashian’s ShoeDazzle continues its “Celebrity Shoe Design Program for Charity” with another fashion-forward, altruistic celebrity, Jenny McCarthy.

The comedian, actress, author and mother designed a special studded pump, which she appropriately named “Fearless.” All of the profits from the sale of the shoe will benefit Generation Rescue, an organization dedicated to recovery for children with autism spectrum disorders by providing guidance and support for medical treatment to directly improve the child’s quality of life for all families in need.

eBay Hosts Massive Celebrity Charity Auction For Breast Cancer Awareness

eBay, the world’s largest online marketplace, makes it easy to help raise a lot for a cause by giving a little. Throughout October, National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, eBay is inviting consumers to join the fight against breast cancer by pledging their support to sell, buy or donate through eBay Giving Works.

eBay Giving Works, a program offering convenient, trusted ways for eBay sellers and buyers to support their favorite nonprofits, provides a unique opportunity for consumers to give to a cause they care about without reaching into their wallets. By simply looking in their closets, selling an item and donating a portion of the proceeds, a real difference can be made and a life could be saved.

“In fact, for the value of every laptop sold this month through Giving Works, one uninsured patient could get a mammogram,” said Robert Chatwani, Director eBay Global Citizenship. “Each person who takes part in this campaign will have an impact on the fight against breast cancer.”

Bette Midler's Celebrity Charity Auction To Close Soon

What do Cher, John Stamos, John McEnroe, Kristin Chenoweth and Rod Stewart have in common? They are among the myriad of celebrities that have come together for an online auction celebrating 15 years of New York Restoration Project’s cleaning and greening of New York City!

The auction is brimming with fabulous lots donated by dear and divine friends of NYRP’s Founder, Bette Midler, who share her dream (and ours!) of a cleaner, more beautiful New York City. Music connoisseurs can choose between “turning back time” with Cher at her Caesars Palace show, golfing with shock rock pioneer Alice Cooper in Scottsdale, or being charmed by Rod Stewart at his O2 performance in London.

Kristin Chenoweth Defends Gay Actors

When the article “Straight Jacket” came out in Newsweek’s May 10 issue, its author questioned whether gay actors could – or should – take on straight roles. Actress Kristin Chenoweth was so disturbed by its perceived message, she sat down at her own keyboard to address Newsweek’s decision to publish the piece, and to defend her gay onstage co-star, Sean Hayes, and gay actors in general.

“I was shocked on many levels to see Newsweek publishing Ramin Setoodeh’s horrendously homophobic ‘Straight Jacket,’” wrote Chenoweth, "which argues that gay actors are simply unfit to play straight. …I’d normally keep silent on such matters and write such small-minded viewpoints off as perhaps a blip in common sense. But the offense I take to this article, and your decision to publish it, is not really even related to my profession or my work with [gay actors].

“This article offends me because I am a human being, a woman and a Christian… Stoodeh even goes so far as to justify his knee-jerk homophobic reaction to gay actors by accepting and endorsing that ‘as viewers, we are molded by a society obsessed with dissecting sexuality, starting with the locker room torture in junior high school.’ Really? We want to maintain and proliferate the same kind of bullying that makes children cry and in some recent cases have even taken their own lives? That’s so sad, Newsweek! The examples he provides (what scientists call ‘selection bias’) to prove his ‘gays can’t play straight’ hypothesis are sloppy.”
