Supermodel Bar Refaeli and tennis legend Boris Becker chose the heart of London on the eve of the Laureus World Sports Awards to unveil a new polo shirt designed by fashion house Shanghai Tang in support for the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation’s mission to use sport as a tool for social change and to help improve the lives of children around the world.

The elegant polo shirt, in dark blue or orange, carrying the Laureus name and the bold number ‘1’, was worn by members of the Laureus World Sports Academy, a unique collection of 47 of the greatest sportsmen and women in the world. Chinese characters on the back of the shirt spell ‘Laureus’ in Chinese.

The Great Ormond Street Hospital in London is asking people to share their first Disney memory – and when they reach a million memories, Disney will donate £1 million to the charity.

Alicia Keys and Mark Ronson will join forces in London next month to host the annual Keep A Child Alive Black Ball.

Alicia Keys Holds Annual Charity Ball In London

Alicia Keys was in London last week for her annual Black Ball to benefit her charity Keep A Child Alive, where she was joined onstage by British rockers Kasabian.

Held at St John Smith Square in Westminster, the ball also featured an auction hosted by Thandie Newton that saw a massive number of rare celebrity items go under the hammer for charity. Items included the shoes worn by Keys in her Put It In A Love Song video with Beyonce, and a guitar signed by Kasabian. A photo opportunity with Keys and OK! Magazine went for £12,000, and the chance to record with Swizz Beatz – who has just announced he is the father of Keys’ baby – went to boyband JLS for £30,000.

Other stars spotted at the event were Katie Price, Bryan Ferry and Tinchy Stryder.

Celebrities en route to the Academy Awards this year will make a pit-stop beforehand to take part in the 3rd Annual Pre-Oscar Hollywood Domino Gala Benefiting Artists for Peace and Justice.

The much anticipated dominos tournament of the Academy Awards, invites iconic personalities of Hollywood, such as Penelope Cruz, Charlize Theron and Demi Moore, to play at ‘bar210’ in an effort to aid Haiti and its people. This black tie ‘island style’ evening will include specialty Disaronno cocktails and delectable hors d’oeuvres by Executive Chef Marcel Vigneron and music by DJ Jus Ske.

One hundred percent of the donations received at this event will be directed to Artists for Peace and Justice’s relief efforts in Haiti.

Adam Croasdell Heads To Malawi For World Vision

Seven years ago as a young and struggling actor, long before it became fashionable, actor Adam Croasdell – to date best known for his role as “Dr Al Jenkins” in the BBC’s award winning flagship show EastEnders – chose to sponsor a child in Malawi with the charity World Vision.

Recently named a Celebrity Ambassador for the charity, he will shortly visit the East African Country with the organization, where for the first time he will meet “Jacob” from Kayezi ADP, about 90 minutes from Mzuzu north of the country.

Thandie Newton To Teach Acting In South Africa

Thandie Newton is to teach acting to girls at Oprah Winfrey’s Leadership Academy in South Africa.

“I am really looking forward to it as it’s such a great scheme and it’s nice to give something back,” said Newton.

The Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls near Johannesburg was established in 2007 after the TV host answered a plea from Nelson Mandela. The school aims to discover, teach and inspire young South African girls to become a new generation of leaders. The academy selects 11-to-13 year-old girls whose family income is less than $700 a month, and Oprah hand-picked the first 75 students in the summer of 2006.

A group of British stars have appeared in a new video produced by Amnesty International, speaking out against the bloodshed and violence in Gaza.

Annie Lennox, Thandie Newton, former Monty Python star Terry Jones, comedian Alexei Sayle, filmmaker Mike Figgis, designer Katharine Hamnett and The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button actor Jason Flemyng all voice their support for Amnesty’s ongoing efforts to secure justice for both Palestinians and Israelis and make an impassioned call for Israel to lift the blockade on Gaza in the video.

“Right now – this very minute – innocent people like you and me, children like mine and yours, are victims of war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza,” said Thandie Newton in the film. “I want the UK government ready to initiate criminal investigations and carry out prosecutions in their own courts.”

March will see the opening of Katherine Heigl’s new film 27 Dresses, and to mark the occasion, 20th Century Fox is auctioning 27 celebrity dresses on eBay. Fabulous frocks from Heidi Klum, Thandie Newton, Mariah Carey, Geri Halliwell, Naomi Campbell, Maggie Gyllenhaal, and Alesha Dixon will be up for sale in the special event, with all proceeds going to the Lavender Trust, an initiative of the UK charity Breast Cancer Care to raise money for young breast cancer sufferers.

The auction also features a stunning white John Galliano dress worn by Kylie Minogue to Cannes 2007, and a full length silver halter top belonging to her sister, Danni Minogue. The auction starts on eBay at 7pm on March 4, and a different dress will be auctioned every day.

Thompson And Newton Help Raise Funds For Breast Cancer Charity

Film stars Emma Thompson and Thandie Newton were among the stars at the Lavender Trust Speakeasy event in London on Wednesday night.

The Lavender Trust is an initiative of the UK charity Breast Cancer Care which raises money for young breast cancer sufferers. Its lively 1920s-inspired Speakeasy event spurred Thompson, Newton and others to take to the stage and sing. Model Sophie Dahl performed two songs with jazz singer Jamie Cullum, while Sting was among other celebrity attendees.

The event raised £200,000, a quarter of which came from a fundraising auction.
