Bethany Hamilton Honored At Natural High Gala

This past Saturday, Bethany Hamilton, award-winning surfer and author of “Soul Surfer,” was honored at Natural High’s 12th Annual Sunset Splash Gala.

The event was held at Hilton La Jolla Torrey Pines and raised $498,000 to continue to help youth discover, amplify and pursue their natural high instead of an artificial drug high. More than 400 people were in attendance to support this cause. The organization saw a 57 percent increase in gross revenue from last year’s total.

On Saturday, March 24, stars and athletes from around the country converged on the J.W. Marriott Desert Ridge Resort & Spa in Phoenix, Arizona for Muhammad Ali's Celebrity Fight Night XVIII.

Grammy Award winning leading lady of country music Reba McEntire returned for her seventh year as emcee at the event which also celebrated Muhammad Ali’s 70th birthday. The evening opened with the singing of the National Anthem in which a rare Bald Eagle was released into the room to the surprise of the audience, followed by a performance from John Corbett.

For every Bookprint created, Scholastic Book Clubs will donate a new book to a child in need (up to one million books). Books will be distributed through the national school readiness initiative Reach Out and Read.

The Desperate Housewives superstar has enlisted the help of the stars to launch TwitChange, a massive online auction that will hit the Net on September 15. The Miriam Center houses, educates and loves on Haitian children with cerebral palsy, severe autism, and other major life challenges and is one of the only facilities of its kind in Haiti. The latest celebrity to join the American Cancer Society's More Birthday’s campaign is legendary skateboarder Tony Hawk.

With this announcement, Hawk joins celebrities such as America Ferrera, Chicago, Taye Diggs, Justin Bieber, and Jennifer Love Hewitt as the latest celebrity committed to helping save lives and create a world with less cancer and more birthdays.
