Coldplay’s Chris Martin and Jonny Buckland will be headlining a special charity show on Thursday 24 November, completing the line up for Little Noise Sessions 2011.

Manchester band Elbow last night kicked off this year’s Little Noise Sessions – a series of gigs in aid of Mencap.

The gig was the last of this year for the Mercury Prize-winning band. Frontman Guy Garvey said that it was the 20th year that the band had been performing together and led the audience in a sing-along of ‘Happy Birthday’ to Elbow.

Coldplay To Host Celebrity Charity Concert

Coldplay will host Under 1 Roof, a benefit concert in support of the charity Kids Company at the O2 Arena in Greenwich, London, on December 10.

The band will join stars such as Tinie Tempah, Emeli Sandé, Rob Brydon and Steve Coogan at the show to raise money for the charity, which with vulnerable children and young people in some of the most deprived areas of London.

“Kids Company is a phenomenal organisation that is very close to our hearts,” says Chris Martin and the band. “We hope that people get behind the event to raise as much money for Kids Company as possible. On our side, we can promise anyone that buys a ticket that they’ll be part of a very special night.”

A new cookbook inspired by the Meat Free Monday campaign – and featuring a foreword by Paul, Stella and Mary McCartney – has hit the shelves of bookstores in the UK

Following the huge success of the McCartney family’s Meat Free Monday campaign, the new cookbook launched yesterday and was inspired by the simple idea that going without meat for just one day of the week can make a huge difference to the planet, our health and even our pocket.

The campaign, which was launched in 2009, came about after the United Nations issued a report which stated that the livestock industry as a whole was responsible for more greenhouse gas emissions than the whole of the transport sector put together. Meat is in fact responsible for a staggering 18 per cent of the planet’s greenhouse gas emissions.

Fashion designer Stella McCartney has designed two new t-shirts to raise awareness of Meat Free Mondays.

Coldplay Appeals For Chilean Earthquake Relief

British band Coldplay used Twitter last week to encourage fans to support the Red Cross in its earthquake relief work in Chile – and fans responded in such numbers that they crashed the charity’s website!

“Two million people have been affected by the earthquake in Chile – donate towards the Red Cross’s relief work,” wrote singer Chris Martin. The message was followed less than an hour later with: “Amazingly, you folks just crashed the Red Cross’s Chile Appeal donation website – it’s back up now.”

Coldplay is joined in their plea by Leeza Gibbons, who used Facebook to urge fans to give to the relief fund: "Donate $10 to survivors of the Chile earthquake thru @RedCross, text “Chile” to 90999, I’m on the celebrity cabinet, please help if you can!"

Oxfam Auction For Haiti Raises Celebrity Charity Cash

The recent Oxfam auction to help survivors of the Haitian earthquake has raised US$190,000 for the charity.

“I’d like to thank everyone involved,” said Emily Eavis, organizer of the auction and of the Glastonbury music festival. “Everyone’s been so generous, it’s fantastic to see how much people care. When we first had the idea of an auction for Haiti I never imagined we would raise so much. This should really help to rebuild some of what was lost.”

The auction featured a massive range of items donated by stars such as Radiohead, Coldplay, Chris Martin, Annie Lennox, Rolf Harris, Pearl Jam, the Arctic Monkeys, Bryan Ferry and many more.

Oxfam Launches Celebrity Charity Auction For Haiti

Oxfam UK has launched a massive celebrity charity auction to raise much-needed funds for their work in Haiti.

Coldplay and Chris Martin are leading the charge by donating a Viva La Vida tour jacket, with Dido, Status Quo and PJ Harvey also donating used clothes. Annie Lennox has donated one of her favorite paintings, while Rolf Harris has donated a painting he created himself. The Arctic Monkeys have donated a guitar, and there are items from the Pet Shop Boys, Pearl Jam, Placebo, Bryan Ferry, Mika and many more.

You can also pick up items from Radiohead, who played a special gig in Los Angeles during the weekend to raise cash for the charity. Held at the Music Box Theatre At The Fonda, the gig included the debut of a new song – Lotus Flower – previously only performed at Thom Yorke’s solo shows.

A host of celebrities have come out in support of the Haitian earthquake that devastated the island nation this week.

As reported earlier by www.LookToTheStars.org, within hours of the quake, Haitian-born singer Wyclef Jean had organized support for victims. He was soon joined by Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, who told JustJared.com: “We are devastated by the news from Haiti. We will work closely with our good friend Wyclef Jean to support the humanitarian efforts on the island and help those who have been injured and left without homes and shelter.”

Now Coldplay singer Chris Martin and Glastonbury Music Festival organizer Emily Eavis are urging people to donate to Oxfam’s appeal for victims.

Coldplay’s End Of The Decade charity auction to benefit Kids Company has raised a massive £251,482.

“The text messages were flying around last night and it’s fair to say that the band are just as excited/grateful/amazed by the enormous total as Kids Company are,” said Chris Martin and the band. “A huge thanks to everyone who bid and helped make the Clearout Sale such a success.”

A huge amount of instruments and band paraphernalia was up for grabs, including Jonny Buckland’s Viva Thinline ‘72 Tele guitar, which went for £15,000, and the costume worn by Chris Martin in the ’Strawberry Swing’ video.

Coldplay To Rock For Mencap

Coldplay have confirmed that they will play a charity concert benefiting Mencap on December 19 as part of the charity’s Big Noise Sessions.

“We’re proud to support Mencap and, for me, it’s exciting to play my hometown,” said singer Chris Martin. “We haven’t played there since 2000. It’s going to be really, really special.”

The show – which will also feature Lily Allen – will take place at Exeter Castle in the UK, with tickets costing £50. Tickets will be made available in three batches: the first batch will be offered to subscribers on the Little Noise Sessions website on December 8, with the second batch being sold at HMV Exeter on December 10. The final batch will go on general sale through HMV on December 11.

Stars Gather For Annual Bridge School Benefit

Veteran musician Neil Young was surrounded by a plethora of stars at his annual Bridge School Benefit Concert on Saturday night.

The concert benefits a non-profit educational institution in Northern California for children with physical disabilities and severe speech impediments. It was co-founded by Young’s wife, Pegi, in 1986, after three of the couple’s children were born with cerebral palsy and epilepsy (their two sons have cerebral palsy and their daughter – like Neil – has epilepsy). Young organized the first Bridge School Concert in 1986, and with the exception of 1987, has hosted the event every year since.

Appearing at Saturday’s show at Mountain View in California were Gwen Stefani, Sheryl Crow, Wolfmother, Gavin Rossdale, Adam Sandler, Chris Martin from Coldplay and many more.

More Performers Announced For Keep A Child Alive Black Ball

Back in July, Look to the Stars brought you a story about this year’s scheduled 6th Annual Keep A Child Alive Black Ball. As the official website promised, more artists have been announced.  

One of the new honorees is Youssou N’Dour. N’Dour is a legendary Senegalese musician and he’s been consistently active in promoting the health and well-being of those in Africa. N’Dour is also scheduled to perform at The Black Ball. To add to the excitement building over this event, two more performers are on the event list: Chris Martin and John Mayer.  

In addition, Queen Latifah is the event’s emcee. Alicia Keys is event host and musical director, and Iman and Padma Lakshmi are the event’s co-hosts. The other two honorees are former President Bill Clinton and Sir Richard Branson.  

Coldplay Donates To Gwyneth Paltrow's Favorite Charity

British band Coldplay have donated £1 million to a children’s charity in the UK.

The group has made the donation to Kids Company, a charity that provides practical, emotional and educational support to vulnerable inner-city children and young people, in particular those with severe emotional, behavioral and social difficulties, resulting from significant experiences of trauma and neglect. Actress Gwyneth Paltrow – who is married to Coldplay singer Chris Martin – is also a big supporter of the charity. Last year, she cleaned out her closet for an auction to benefit the charity, and she recently designed a range of clothes to raise money for the organization.

“[Coldplay] were moved by the tough stories they heard and want to be genuine participants,” said charity founder Camila Batmanghelidjh. “I got the feeling the donation was something they had planned from the start of their careers.”

Jude Law Launches Peace Day Video Contest

Peace One Day’s annual International Day of Peace will take place on September 21, and actor Jude Law is encouraging people to enter a new video competition to celebrate the initiative.

World Peace Day has been held on September 21 annually since 2001, when the United Nations General Assembly unanimously adopted September 21 as a day of global ceasefire and non-violence. The initiative came from an idea by Jeremy Gilley, who founded his non-profit organization – Peace One Day – in 1999. Since then he has amassed an impressive list of supporters, including Chris Martin, Sir Richard Branson, Angelina Jolie, Alan Rickman, and Michael Douglas.

This year’s World Peace Day will be preceded by a concert featuring Lenny Kravitz and Kasabian in Paris, and the organization has launched the video competition to help spread the word of peace. All you have to do is create a video showing how you will be making a difference on World Peace Day, no matter how big or small the action whether it’s bringing people together; making amends with someone; organizing a football match; doing something in the home, the workplace, the community; or simply offering your take on what peace means to you.

Take That singer Gary Barlow is planning a one-off charity fundraising extravaganza at the Royal Albert Hall.

Following his successful charity trek to the summit of Mt Kilimanjaro earlier this year, the singer has now enlisted the help of Peter Kay, Leona Lewis, and Coldplay’s Chris Martin to put on the show.

“Gary’s been bitten by the fundraising bug,” reported The Sun. “He was amazed by people’s generosity during his Kilimanjaro climb. As soon as he got off the mountain he made the decision to lend his support to more charities. Take That are going to perform and there will be a whole host of surprises throughout the evening. It is shaping up to be a very special night.”
