Aerosmith is heading to Japan to bring some much needed relief to the country.

“Our prayers are with all of our Japanese fans and the people of Japan,” says guitarist Joe Perry. “They can use all of our prayers and whatever help we can give. We can’t wait to be there and play for the people who have supported us for the past 40 years. Our fans know how much we love them and we are eager to return and give them the show of a lifetime, especially after the tragedy they have recently been through.”

Rock Legends Honor Depeche Mode At Celebrity Charity Concert

Depeche Mode lead singer Dave Gahan and Vans Warped Tour founder Kevin Lyman were honored at the 7th Annual MusiCares MAP Fund benefit concert on May 6 at Club Nokia in Los Angeles.

Several artists and guests were on hand to celebrate, including concert promoter Gary Tovar, who presented Lyman with MusiCares’ From The Heart Award for his unconditional friendship and dedication to the mission and goals of the organization, and Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler, who presented Gahan with the Stevie Ray Vaughan Award for his dedication and support of the MusiCares MAP Fund, and for his commitment to helping other addicts with the addiction recovery process.

Performers included Jane’s Addiction; Linkin Park vocalist Chester Bennington; drummer Curt Bisquera; Gahan with producer/musician Vincent Jones and bassist Martyn LeNoble; guitarists Jason Orme and Joel Shearer of Pedestrian; Ozomatli; Paramore; and Adam Bravin and Justin Warfield from She Wants Revenge. Gahan’s closing set included a cover of Joy Division’s “Love Will Tear Us Apart,” and an encore of Depeche Mode’s “Personal Jesus” featuring bandmate Martin Gore.

Aerosmith frontman and American Idol judge Steven Tyler made the holidays a little brighter for needy children in the Boston this holiday season after a visit to Whole Foods Market in Marshfield, Massachusetts. 

According to Boston.com, Tyler was shopping in Whole Foods last week and spontaneously made 100 separate donations to the store’s Feed Kids Now campaign.

Each of Tyler’s $5 donations bought a grocery bag filled with nutritious food for an area child in need. Tina Barber, marketing manager for Whole Foods in the area, says that Tyler’s visit was a total surprise. She also says the generous donation was his daughter Mia’s idea.  "

Ozzy Osbourne has celebrated John Lennon’s 70th birthday early by releasing a version of the former Beatle’s song “How?” for charity.

Proceeds of the song, which first appeared on Lennon’s 1971 album Imagine, will go to Amnesty International. Ozzy has recorded a music video – shot on the streets of New York City – to accompany the single, which is currently available from iTunes.

“Lennon was a driving force for humanity,” said the rocker.

Michael Jackson’s original sparkling glove will be auctioned off for charity at the annual Music Icons event at the Hard Rock Café in New York’s Times Square in November.

But this isn’t just one of the many gloves the singer wore over his lifetime, which were right hand gloves. This is the one-of-a-kind left hand glove Jackson wore when he unveiled the moonwalk during the “Motown 25” special in 1983. Jackson gifted the glove to Walter Orange, one of the founding members of the Commodores, and it is considered one of the most iconic pieces of Michael Jackson history.

“Michael came up behind me and put his hand over my eyes and said, ‘Guess who?’” said Orange. “I knew who it was because I felt the one glove on his left hand and no glove on the other. When I once again asked him for his autograph, Michael gave me the glove he wore that night instead, still refusing to give me his autograph! He was always a real prankster, even as a little boy, so I asked him if he was serious about giving me the glove, and he assured me that he was.”

Aerosmith drummer Joey Kramer will host a birthday party with a difference on June 21 – he has invited 20 wounded warriors to be his personal guests at the band’s show that night at Nissan Pavilion in Bristow, VA, near Washington, DC.

“I can’t think of a better gift to receive on my birthday than to have the privilege of sharing a night of our music with these brave and heroic warriors who have been wounded in the service of our country,” said Kramer, who will turn 59 on Sunday.

The Marines and sailors expected to attend the show – which will also feature ZZ Top – all served in conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan and are patients at the National Naval Medical Center. Some are single leg amputees; others have suffered blast injuries, burns, and traumatic brain injuries.

Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler has announced that he will headline this year’s Rock ‘N’ Roll Fantasy Camp, and has donated a swag of memorabilia to be auctioned for charity.

Aerosmith Touches Base With Children's Hospital

Aerosmith bass player Tom Hamilton recently visited sick children in a Massachusetts hospital.

The rocker entertained children at the Franciscan Hospital for Children in Brighton, Massachusetts, earlier this week to bring joy to some of the patients who suffer from debilitating and sometimes terminal conditions. He also handed out autographed copies of Aerosmith’s new Guitar Hero game.

Along with his wife, Hamilton has also donated a week in their house in Captiva Island, Florida, as a prize in the hospital’s annual Friends Ball auction, which will take place later tonight at the InterContinental in Boston.

Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler proved he doesn’t just walk this way but also rides this way when he took part in last weekend’s first Boston Rock Ride For Africa.

The 60-year-old rocker straddled one of his custom-made Red Wing motorcycles for the 15-mile charity ride from Waltham to the Bank of America Pavilion on Boston’s waterfront to raise money for FORGE and Opportunity International, two charities dedicated to stamping out poverty in Africa.

Bono's Fishy T-Shirt Benefits African Farmers

Bono has designed a new T-shirt for charity, joining a host of other celebrities in an on-going and major charity campaign.

The 47-year-old singer from U2 is the 25th artist to design a shirt for Hard Rock Café’s Signature Series clothing line, an initiative started in 1990 as a way for musicians to raise money for charities of their choice. Sales from the shirts have raised over $6 million for a variety of causes.

Bono’s creation, available for $26 from the Hard Rock website, features his stylized drawing of a fish soaring past the moon, and is adorned with the words “Fish Can Fly”, as well as his signature. 15% of the proceeds will go to the Wildlife Conservation Society’s Conservation Cotton initiative – a scheme designed to lift African farmers out of poverty by providing education on proper land management, organic cotton growing techniques, and wildlife conservation. The shirts will also support the trade for aid ethos of EDUN, the conscious consumerism fashion label founded by Bono and his wife in 2005, by being made from 100% African cotton and manufactured by African garment workers.

As the clock counts down to Christmas, celebrities have been keeping busy and warm by signing as many different items as humanly possible and donating them to a plethora of auctions. The holiday season may be at fever pitch now, but there is certainly a wide range of gift ideas to ease the stress of last minute shopping.

The countdown to Christmas has begun, and celebrities are doing their best to make holiday shopping easy this year. Several charity auctions have already kicked off to raise money for good causes, including one that may be eBay’s largest sale of celebrity items… ever!

The BID 2 BEAT AIDS online auction will open on December 1, World AIDS Day, and will feature over 1000 specially signed items, ranging from posters to iPods. The annual auction will raise money for LIFEbeat, the music industry’s AIDS fundraising and service charity, and in the past has raised up to $175,000.

The array of memorabilia up for sale this year is simply colossal, with perhaps the most interesting items being a series of “Lend a Hand to LIFEbeat” cards that feature the handprints of over 100 celebrities. Stars Line Up For Wildfire Auction

An exciting new auction, featuring memorabilia from rock bands young and old, has been launched on eBay to raise funds and awareness for victims of the recent Californian wildfires.

Rockers Linkin Park, and their charitable foundation Music for Relief, have teamed up with the non-profit organization Unite The United to stage the auction, which runs on eBay Giving Works until November 15. Proceeds from the auction are to be donated to the California Community Foundation’s Southern California Relief Fund, which is working hard in the aftermath of the wildfires to support victims and firefighters. A portion of the money raised will also go to American Forests, an organization that will help with the reforestation of 800 square miles of greenery destroyed in the fires that raged for over two weeks from Santa Barbara County to the Mexican border.

Over 60 items, including signed instruments and concert tickets, are up for sale in the auction, which follows an earlier donation of $50,000 made by Linkin Park to wildfire victims. This was followed by a donation from classic rockers the Eagles, also of $50,000, made to the firefighters involved in stopping the fires, and $160,000 donated to the cause by Gwen Stefani.

It's Never Too Crowded For Charity

Half of the band is American, yet they originated in Australia, and the lead singer is a New Zealander. Veteran pop band Crowded House can truly be considered as one of the most international music groups ever to grace the airwaves. And even though they are currently halfway through a world tour to promote their latest album, they still find time to be part of a new collaborative CD to raise money for Oxfam.

“The Cake Sale” (CD /MP3) is a new record featuring a loose and expansive collective of musicians and writers, including Crowded House founding member Nick Seymore, who have combined to create a 9 song CD of previously unreleased recordings. Profits from the album, which also features Nina Persson from The Cardigans, Damien Rice, and Snow Patrol, will go to Oxfam’s Make Trade Fair campaign, as well as to their overseas program work. It was released in Britain in September, where it has already raised almost $300,000, and was made available in the US on October 16.

Crowded House formed in 1984, as a result of the demise of an earlier band called Split Enz. Ex-Enz singer/songwriter Neil Finn, and drummer Paul Hester, joined bass player Nick Seymore to form the new band, then travelled to Los Angeles. There they were signed to Capital Records. Over the next 12 years, the band released four albums, and garnered a loyal fan base with a strong repertoire of hits on both sides of the Atlantic, including “Don’t Dream It’s Over”, “Weather With You”, and “Four Seasons In One Day”.

New CD To Raise Aid For Darfur

Instant Karma: The Amnesty International Campaign To Save Darfur is a new CD that seeks to raise aid for the humanitarian catastrophe in Darfur. It features the music of John Lennon recorded by some of the world’s best known musicians.

U2, Green Day, Christina Aguilera, and Avril Lavigne are some of the 50 musical artists and groups that are included in the Amnesty International project.

The album was released around the world on 12 June by Warner Bros Records, and was put together by Amnesty International’s “Make Some Noise” initiative.

Celebrities Fuel Robin Hood Charity Excess

This year’s Robin Hood fundraiser saw top-tier investors driven by good-natured rivalry and celebrity encouragement to give a massive $71 million to charity.

Individual pledges of up to $10 million were made, totalling around $40 million, and guests participated enthusiastically in an auction of unique and decadent lots.

Winning bids included $400,000 to sing a song with Aerosmith (whose singer Steven Tyler performed for two hours of the evening), $1.3 million for a 10-person dinner with celebrity chef Mario Batali, and $2.2 million for an insider trip to the Beijing Olympics.

Aerosmith is making a special stop in Las Vegas for a concert in support of the Lili Claire Foundation.

Founder and executive director of The Lili Claire Foundation Keith Resnick says, “The band will be travelling from Latin America to perform at our fundraiser; we couldn’t be more grateful for their respect of our mission.”

The Lili Claire Foundation helps children living with Williams Syndrome, Down Syndrome, Autism and other neurogenetic disorders, and Aerosmith’s concert on the 28th of April will be part of their fifth annual benefit celebrations.

Kravitz and Good Charlotte "Serve" Those in Need

Major recording artists such as Lenny Kravitz and Good Charlotte have come together to help create an all-star charity CD benefitting World Hunger Year (WHY).

Called “Serve”, the collection of tracks by Grammy Award-winning and acclaimed artists includes a booklet with text and photos celebrating philanthropy in rock ‘n’ roll. The 12 songs are variously new and classic, electric and acoustic, and two are live recordings. Many of the tracks are rare or previously unreleased pieces.
