Stars Attend 15th Annual Global Green Millennium Awards

Global Green USA celebrated its 15th Annual Millennium Awards at a star-studded fundraising gala at the Fairmont Miramar Hotel & Bungalows in Santa Monica, California on Saturday, June 4, 2011. More than 350 guests enjoyed the reception and dinner program that included a featured musical performance by Rocky Dawuni.

Celebrity guests and presenters including Kyra Sedgwick, Kevin Bacon, Jamie Lee Curtis, Christopher Guest, Orlando Bloom, Miranda Kerr, Adrian Grenier, Armyan Bernstein, Sharon Lawrence and more also had the opportunity to check out a new ECOtality Commercial Electric car charger with network support by Sprint along with the new ecofriendly Samsung Replenish phone. On Saturday, June 4, Global Green USA will welcome celebrity guests to its 15th Annual Millennium Awards, which acknowledge and honor individuals whose lives and careers exemplify Global Green USA’s mission of “fostering a global value shift toward a sustainable and secure world.”

Global Green USA CEO Matt Petersen will join honorees Mark Ruffalo, Ed Begley Jr., Wendy Schmidt and the Los Angeles Business Council at the event, along with expected celebrity presenters Kevin Bacon, Kyra Sedgwick, Jamie Lee Curtis, Christopher Guest and many more.

The event will raise funds to support the organization’s initiatives to rebuild a green New Orleans; to create green affordable housing and green schools in Los Angeles, throughout California and nationally; and to continue to advocate for innovative and effective policy initiatives to combat climate change.

1,500 supporters, including celebrities, prominent philanthropists, business leaders and elected officials will gather at the L.A. Live Events Deck for “Dream for Kids: The Grand Opening Gala” on Saturday, May 7.

The exclusive black-tie event celebrates the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles’ 110th anniversary and the completion of its new $636 million hospital building, which opens July 10. Three-time GRAMMY Award winning jazz pianist and singer Diana Krall will provide the night’s headline entertainment and two-time Emmy award-winner Eric Stonestreet will serve as Master of Ceremonies. Cuba Gooding Jr. and Conan O’Brien are just two celebrity names bringing their artistic skills to a unique art sale in Santa Monica in March.

The Itty Bitty Art Sale will feature original postcard-sized art, each to be sold for $40 on a first-come, first-served basis. The work is unsigned on the front, so no one knows the artists’ identity until it is purchased and the name is revealed on the back. The artist can be anyone with a passion or idea – a well known architect, professional designer, Hollywood celebrity, talented amateur, rock & roll musician, or a well meaning animator.

This is the third time the event is being held – previous sales have included works by Jamie Lee Curtis, Ray Liotta, Ben Stiller, George Thorogood, Ashley Tisdale, Christopher Guest, Randy Newman and many others.

Jamie Lee Curtis and husband Christopher Guest have stood up for animal rights after their daughter alerted them to a video showing abuse at Conklin’s dairy farm in Ohio.

“She was overcome with grief that human beings could inflict such cruelty and unconscious hatred at the most benign of creatures and their infants,” wrote the couple in The Huffington Post. "The shocking images were too much for her father and me but we watched enough to know where it led.

“We challenge you to have the courage, as the brave person who filmed this did, to open your doors and your hearts. Become the standard for safety and kindness and actually change — change your mental state and spend the rest of your lives, and the lives of your descendants, trying to make your farm the leader in humane, clean, loving treatment of the very animals you profit from. You have the opportunity. Certainly one more than those helpless victims of your sick, tortured abuse.”

Spinal Tap Help Hospitals and Classrooms Go To 11

Legendary semi-fictional rockers Spinal Tap have recently been supporting a non-profit in Los Angeles that is bringing music tuition to under-served children in the area.

Working with local schools and hospitals, the Hollywood Rock Academy Foundation teaches children who would otherwise not have access to music instruction how to read music, and how to write, record and perform their own original music.

Comic actors Michael McKean, Christopher Guest and Harry Shearer have performed in Spinal Tap since inventing the band (“one of England’s loudest bands”) for a 1978 TV comedy special, and the band gave a trademark tongue-in-cheek heavy metal performance at a fundraiser for the Foundation in mid-October.

Just hours remain in a charity auction that offers an item for connoisseurs of Rock and arbiters of Roll. The guitar played by Nigel Tufnel (AKA Christopher Guest) of Spinal Tap at the London leg of Live Earth is up for sale in a once-in-a-lifetime event.

The guitar was custom-made for Guest by Ernie Ball Music Man, designers of quality guitars.

“Chris has been a loyal fan of Music Man instruments for years, so when he called me up looking for something to play before billions of people on 7-7-07, we started brainstorming the global warming concept immediately,” said Sterling Ball of the Ernie Ball Company. “Incredibly enough, most of those initial ideas made it onto the guitar, which turned out to be absolutely beautiful.”

Live Earth Offers An Evening With Spinal Tap

A dinner with a difference is for sale on Ebay. The organisers of Live Earth are auctioning a special meal with members of rock group Spinal Tap, as part of their lead-up to the Live Earth concerts on July 7.

The spoof heavy metal band has reformed to perform their new single, “Warmer Than Hell”, at the Live Earth event in London, and one lucky bidder and their guest will have the chance to accompany band members Nigel Tufnel, David St Hubbins, and Derek Smalls (the alter egos of comedians Christopher Guest, Michael McKean, and Harry Shearer) to an evening of culinary delights, fine wine… and interesting conversation.

Also attending the dinner will be film director Rob Reiner, creator of the 1984 “mockumentary” This Is Spinal Tap.

Spinal Tap Reunite for Live Earth

Spinal Tap will reunite onstage this July at the Live Earth event in Wembley Stadium, London.

The legendary spoof heavy metal band, led by comedians Harry Shearer, Christopher Guest and Michael McKean, gained a following through their ‘mockumentary’ This is Spinal Tap, and have teamed up once again with director Rob Reiner to support the music extravaganza by creating a Live Earth-related short film.

The short film features characters Nigel Tufnel, David St. Hubbins and Derek Smalls talking about their “charity” work, such as raising funds to help underprivileged ferrets, as well as updating fans on the career paths the musicians have taken.
