Stars Say No To McDonald's Chicken Cruelty

A number of celebrities have written a letter to McDonald’s on behalf of Mercy For Animals, crying foul over the fast food giant’s treatment of egg-laying hens.

A MFA investigation exposed the abhorrent cruelty at one of McDonald’s suppliers, and a host of stars – including Ryan Gosling, Zooey Deschanel, Alicia Silverstone, Maria Menounos, Kristin Bauer, Ed Begley Jr., Bryan Adams and Steve-O – have added their names to the letter.

“On behalf of compassionate people everywhere, I implore you to help end the needless suffering of these animals by adopting strict and meaningful animal welfare policies worldwide, including the commitment to prohibit the purchase of eggs produced by hens who spend their miserable lives crammed into tiny wire cages,” reads the letter. "In MFA’s investigative video, McDonald’s egg suppliers are shown burning off the beaks of baby birds without painkillers, chicks are shown trapped and mangled in cage wire suffering from untreated wounds, live chicks are slowly suffocated in trash bags, and dead and rotting corpses are left in cages with hens still laying eggs for McDonald’s Egg McMuffins.

As reported earlier this week on LookToTheStars.org, the third installment of Kat Kramer’s Films That Change the World featured the world premiere of the documentary “Elephants and Man: A Litany of Tragedy” at Sunset Gower Studios in Hollywood on Thursday, January 20.
 
 The film, executive produced by Melya Kaplan and directed by Jacek Kropinski, chronicles the history of elephants in captivity. Kaplan, founder of the nonprofit Voice for the Animals Foundation, contends that zoos and circuses are not capable of properly caring for elephants due to their size and their need for vast amounts of space in which to roam. Many celebrities have joined Kaplan in a campaign to persuade zoos to close elephant exhibits and transfer the pachyderms to larger sanctuaries.

Documentary film Elephants and Man: A Litany of Tragedy premiered last month, and several animal rights activists were there to show support – including Lily Tomlin, Cher, Ed Begley Jr. and Tippi Hedren.

The documentary outlines the “physical and emotional agony elephants have endured in captivity through the centuries.” In the film, zoo and animal specialists in several capacities speak about the business of zoos, conservation, education and practical problems, which all affect the mortality rates of elephants in captivity.

“This film clearly shows how elephants endure a lifetime of suffering when they are captured or bred to be put on exhibit for our momentary pleasure,” Tomlin said, according to Broadway World. “Ambulating is necessary to keep their feet and joints disease free and their mental state healthy and thriving. A sanctuary with hundreds of acres and the companionship of other elephants is the closest environment we can provide to their living in the wild.”

Green Is The Color For Corey Feldman

Project Save Our Surf's First Annual Surfathon and Celebrity Gala

On Sunday April 5, professional surfers and celebrities will take part in the Project ‘Save Our Surf’ Surf-a-Thon and Celebrity Gala to benefit Non-Profit Oceana, an international ocean conservation group.

Launched by actress Tanna Frederick and surfer Shaun Tomson, Project Save Our Surf (Project SOS) is an amazing organization that rally’s surfers and non-surfers to get involved in giving back while helping to save our oceans.

Celebrities such as Michelle Rodriguez (“Lost”), David Chokachi (“Baywatch”), Rob Machado, and World Champion of International Professional Surfing Peter “P.T.” Townend, will raise money by asking fans to sponsor their commitment to surf during a five-hour shift.
