Ed Begley Jr To Host Environmental Photo Event

Actor and environmental activist Ed Begley Jr. will be special guest at an event next week to close a photography exhibition.

From June 27 through July 31, Blue 7 Gallery in Santa Monica and photographer Robert McGinley will display a special exhibition entitled Topography, Light and Magic, and will donate a portion of proceeds to Heal the Bay.

A closing reception will be held Friday, July 31, from 7pm to 9pm at Blue 7 Gallery, with special guest Ed Begley, Jr.

Heal The Bay was established to save Santa Monica Bay, which used to be a dump site for sewage and storm drains.

Stars Step Out For Children's Rights Event

Stars from across the broad spectrum of entertainment will be out and about in Los Angeles tonight, June 2, for the Alliance For Children’s Rights second annual Dinner For Friends.

Ed Begley Jr., Tia Carrere, Fred Durst, Joely Fisher, Tricia Leigh Fisher, Peri Gilpin, Dana Gould, Gail Berman, and The Alliance Board of Directors’ Angie Harmon and Sue Naegle of HBO will gather at the home of Abby Wolf-Weiss and Daniel Weiss to enjoy fine wine and cuisine from sponsoring restaurants, caterers and beverage companies throughout the city. The event supports the NextSTEP Program for youth aging out of foster care, and will feature meaningful work from The Alliance’s Youth Council, including their personal documentary projects.

The Alliance For Children’s Rights protects the rights and futures of abused and impoverished children throughout Los Angeles County, in hopes of creating a world in which all children are able to have a safe and permanent family, access to quality health care, a quality education, and all of the support and services they so rightfully deserve.

The Hollywood Note Foundation will hold its annual Change The World Awards this Sunday, May 31.

The award ceremony – hosted by Scott Baio and his wife Rene – will attract a large number of stars who will be recognized for their personal efforts to make the world a better place. Recipients will include Band From TV – featuring Greg Grunberg, Bob Guiney, Bonnie Somerville, Hugh Laurie, James Denton, Jesse Spencer and Teri Hatcher – who will recieve the Humanitarian Award of Inspiration. Also being honored are Ed Begley Jr., who will be presented with the Humanitarian Lifetime Achievement Award, Bart Simpson’s voice Nancy Cartwright – who will receive the Change The World Public Service Award – and many others, including Aimee Teegarden, Kevin Sorbo, Leonardo DiCaprio, Jeremy Sumpter, and Michael Bernard Beckwith.

Beneficiaries of the event will include Stand Up To Cancer, Happy House, Save The Ta-Tas, CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children), Coalition for Clean Air, the Ready or Not Foundation, and the Agape Foundation.

Corey Feldman’s band Truth Movement is to play at the Key Club in Hollywood on April 10 at an event hosted by Ed Begley Jr..

Green Is The Color aims to create an “atmosphere of learning and communication about the environment, ranging from Fuel technology to alternative sources of energy.” Proceeds from the night will go to Global Green, and the evening will feature guest speakers such as Kevin Vickery – who is the co-producer of the award winning new film FUEL – and a live auction that includes a Fender Squire Stratocaster signed by Feldman’s band.

Project Save Our Surf's First Annual Surfathon and Celebrity Gala

On Sunday April 5, professional surfers and celebrities will take part in the Project ‘Save Our Surf’ Surf-a-Thon and Celebrity Gala to benefit Non-Profit Oceana, an international ocean conservation group.

Launched by actress Tanna Frederick and surfer Shaun Tomson, Project Save Our Surf (Project SOS) is an amazing organization that rally’s surfers and non-surfers to get involved in giving back while helping to save our oceans.

Celebrities such as Michelle Rodriguez (”Lost”), David Chokachi (“Baywatch”), Rob Machado, and World Champion of International Professional Surfing Peter “P.T.” Townend, will raise money by asking fans to sponsor their commitment to surf during a five-hour shift. The Surfathon will take place from 10:00am to 3:00pm at Ocean Park beach in Santa Monica. In addition to watching the celebrities hang-ten, other activities at the event include Tae Kwon Do demonstrations, environmental guest speakers, face painting, team relay races, yoga sessions, free massages, raffle prizes and musical performance by Birdsong and the Eco-Wonders.

Following the Surfathon, fans are invited to attend the Project Save Our Surf Celebrity Gala at Shutters on the Beach hosted by Henry Jaglom and Noah Wyle. Of course, the evening will include a celebrity “blue” carpet, cocktails, buffet dinner, a live and silent auction, and a musical performance by legendary surfers, Timmy Curran and Tom Curren. But more importantly, professional surfer Rob Machado will receive the Project Save Our Surf award for his dedication to environmental activism in Southern California. Additionally, Billabong CEO Paul Naudé will also receive the Oceana Sea Friend Award for his outstanding contributions to ocean conservation.

Band From TV – the star-studded band made up of celebrities from shows such as Desperate Housewives and Heroes – is to receive a special accolade at the Hollywood Note Foundation’s annual Change The World Awards in May.

The awards will celebrate Hollywood for its impact on philanthropy, and will recognize celebrity individuals for their personal efforts to make the world a better place.

Band From TV – which features stars such as Greg Grunberg, Bob Guiney, Bonnie Somerville, Hugh Laurie, James Denton, Jesse Spencer and Teri Hatcher – raises money through gigs and album sales for a range of charities such as Save the Children, The Art of Elysium, the Child Abuse Prevention Program and the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence through the Band From TV Global Charity Trust. Oceania To Benefit From Celebrity Surf-A-Thon

Project SOS – Save Our Surf – will hold a special charity event in April to raise money for one of the world’s premier environmental organizations.

The Project SOS Surfathon is a way for surfers, non-surfers, families, and communities to become involved in giving a little time and having fun while helping out in their own backyard, the Pacific Ocean. The event will benefit Oceana, the world’s largest organization dedicated to marine conservation.

World champion surfer Shaun Thomson and ‘Hollywood Dreams’ actress Tanna Frederick will co-host the event, which will be held on Sunday, April 5th, 2009, and will begin at 10 a.m. and run until 4 p.m., with tons of activities, food, and surf!

There will be face painting and story telling for kids, free massages for parents, raffle prizes including gift certificates for clothing stores and surf shops and facials and more, Oceana speakers, live music, drum circles, and more! There will be several celebrities surfing the event, including Lost’s Michelle Rodriguez.

Then, at 5 p.m., the Project S.O.S. Celebrity Gala at Shutters on the Beach will begin. Director Henry Jaglom and actor Noah Wyle will co-host a live auction benefiting Oceana. The gala will also feature a blue carpet walk, cocktails, tapas and a live band.

The Honorary Event Committee includes Eric Roberts, Dennis Hopper, Jeff Garlin, Judd Nelson, director Ron Vignone, Rosanna Arquette, Noah Wyle, Ed Begley Jr., Justine Pasek (Miss Universe 2002), Elliot Gould and many more.

Ed Begley Jr And Mariel Hemingway To Speak At Go Green Expo

People in Los Angeles may want to check out the Go Green Expo in the city this weekend.

Friday, January 23, will see a day packed with events, including a speech by actor and eco-warrior Ed Begley Jr.. Sherry Beall, host and producer of Healthy Planet, Healthy Me on KFPK-FM radio will broadcast live from the event, and there will also be a screening of Sundance Film Festival Winner "FUEL.“ The film’s director Josh Tickell will then join Peter Fonda, Mariel Hemingway & Tony Tracy for a panel discussion.

There will also be a full day of events on Saturday, January 24, including a speech by Mariel Hemingway discussing overall wellness from her new book "Healthy Living from the Inside Out.“ Sunday will see panel discussions about greening your business and sustainable energy. All three days will feature a trade show of everything green.

According to the website, the event
will change "not only the public’s perception of environmentalism but also how events like this are produced and managed. Inviting companies large and small to showcase what they are doing to reduce their respective carbon footprint, consumers will have hands on experiences with “eco-friendly” alternatives to current everyday products and services.

“Even the event itself is environmentally friendly utilizing a ZERO Carbon footprint approach to event production. Biodegradable trash bags, eco-friendly printing, table coverings, recycled signs, compostable sponsor banners and more. Event waste will be separated and sorted to ensure the least amount of refuse going to the landfills. Staff travel and a portion of every ticket that is purchased will be carbon offset.“

Stars Go Downhill For Charity

Alec Baldwin was one of a host of stars spotted on the ski slopes at the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise Sports Invitational in support of Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s Waterkeeper Alliance during the weekend.

The annual event raises funds to protect North American and Canadian waterways, and regularly raises over $1 million. The event was first held in 1986, and has gone on to become one of the most popular celebrity skiing events, attracting stars such as Pierce Brosnan, Christie Brinkley and Tim Robbins.

This year’s event is believed to have been attended by Glenn Close, Beau Bridges, Tom Cochrane, Peter Fonda, John McEnroe and Chad Lowe. Also spotted making their way down the slopes were ER star Juliana Margulies, former Beverly Hills 90210 actor Ian Ziering, Olympic gold medalist Al Joyner, Sopranos actor Joe Pantoliano and environmental warrior and actor Ed Begley Jr..

“For the Canadian groups, this has been the primary fuel for our growth in Canada,” said Mark Mattson, president of Lake Ontario Waterkeeper and the Canadian representative to Waterkeeper Alliance’s board of directors. “Kennedy has put more and more money into our groups. The event has really built a base in Canada to bring people in to get to know Kennedy and his message.”

Ed Begley Jr. Launches Sustainable Living Website

Actor Ed Begley Jr. has launched a forum-based community website with the goal of promoting and enabling sustainable living.

Set up with the help of partners Tim Matteson and Joseph Gutwirth, fixingtheplanet.com aims to be a one-stop resource for all things green.

Begley says, “I have been doing this stuff since 1970 – driving an electric car, composting, recycling – and I’ve always tried to set a good example for others who are interested in sustainable living. It’s not only been good for the environment, but it’s been good for my pocketbook. With FIXINGTHEPLANET.COM, my hope is that people have one place to go where they can find answers to their questions.”

Co-founder Tim Matteson says, “The need for a community site like FIXINGTHEPLANET.COM is long overdue. Since the launch we’ve been overwhelmed by the response and number of new registered users who finally feel they can have a voice and actually participate within the movement as they learn and share.”

The founders estimate that they will have more than 500,000 registered users by the end of this year alone and well over 2,000,000 within 2008. They hope that user-generated content and information on the site will make the site a definitive meeting point for sustainable living supporters.
