Ellen DeGeneres And Brad Pitt To Make It Right In New Orleans

Make It Right has announced that Ellen DeGeneres will join Brad Pitt as host of “A Night to Make It Right”, a charity gala to raise vital funds to complete Make It Right’s goal to build 150 environmentally friendly homes in New Orleans’ Lower 9th Ward.

The gala will be held at Hyatt Regency New Orleans on Saturday, March 10, 2012 and also celebrates the hotel’s grand re-opening. Performers will include Rihanna, Sheryl Crow, Seal and The Neville Brothers, and the host committee includes Sean Penn, Kevin Spacey, Spike Lee, Blake Lively, Djimon Hounsou, Josh Brolin, Bennett Miller and Chris Paul.

“I’m so happy I can be a part of this incredible foundation,” said Ellen DeGeneres, a long-time supporter of Make It Right. “I’m from New Orleans, I love New Orleans and I love that Make It Right continues to help the people there rebuild their beautiful city. Grammy Nominees Album To Benefit Charity

The Recording Academy’s GRAMMY Recordings and Universal Republic Records have joined forces to release the 2012 GRAMMY Nominees album on Jan. 24, 2012.

The 18th edition of the best-selling series will showcase many of this year’s GRAMMY-nominated artists and songs. Songs For Japan Raises $10 Million For Earthquake Victims

Songs For Japan, the unique, star-studded album collection created to help raise money for victims of Japan’s 2011 earthquake and tsunami disasters, continues to benefit the survivors through Japanese Red Cross Society.

Yesterday in Tokyo, senior executives from four major music companies – EMI, Sony Music, Universal Music and Warner Music Group – met with Japanese Red Cross Society Vice President, Yoshiharu Otsuka, to recognise the milestone of $10 million raised and donated from the global sales of Songs For Japan. The occasion was a reception hosted by Frances Moore, chief executive of worldwide recording industry organisation IFPI.

A music industry-wide initiative, Songs For Japan is an unprecedented compilation of 38 major hits and classic tracks, including 21 Billboard Hot 100 hits and five #1s from more than 30 of the biggest names in contemporary music. The collection was rush-released worldwide on March 25 – only 14 days after the earthquake struck Japan – as a digital album via iTunes, followed by the release of a physical two-CD set.

Yesterday saw the launch of a ground-breaking celebrity charity social media campaign, ’I’m Gonna Be Your Friend’ supported by many of the world’s most famous names in entertainment and their fans, including Beyoncé Knowles, Annie Lennox and Sting.

Rihanna Honored At DKMS Celebrity Charity Gala

Last Thursday night, the DKMS 5th Annual Gala raised a record $2.5 million to support the fight against leukemia and other blood related cancers. The money raised at the star-studded gala, which took place at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City, will help register nearly 30,000 bone marrow donors and work to save lives worldwide.

Katharina Harf, COO of DKMS Americas presented an award to Rihanna in recognition for her tireless work in the fight against leukemia. “Anyone can be affected by leukemia,” said Rihanna. ""It is the number one disease children in the U.S. die of and we can change that. I encourage people to become bone marrow donors with DKMS. If we have more donors, we can save more lives."

Rihanna went on, “I would like to dedicate this award to Shannon Tavarez who fought so bravely against this disease but was tragically taken from us far too soon. Shannon was a great inspiration who selflessly promoted awareness of the need for donors, so that others may receive the help they need, and she will be missed.”

Donald Trump has pledged the $2 million he received for appearing at his comedy roast last night to charity.

Trump was the subject of Family Guy creator Seth Farlane’s second Comedy Central Celebrity Roast. Trump was roasted in front of celebrity guests such as Snoop Dogg, Rihanna, John Legend and Larry King at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City.

The courage of British children who have faced cancer is to be recognized with a unique award backed by celebrities including Rihanna, Leona Lewis, the Jonas Brothers and footballers Ryan Giggs and Cesc Fabregas.

Cancer Research UK has launched its annual Little Star Awards, in partnership with labels-for-less retailer, TK Maxx. Relatives and friends of young cancer patients or survivors from across the UK are being urged to nominate them now for special recognition in the run up to Christmas. All Little Stars receive a special trophy, £50 TK Maxx gift card and certificate signed by their favourite celebrities.

Shannon Tavarez – the 11-year-old Lion King actress whose battle with Leukemia was supported by Rihanna, Alicia Keys and 50 Cent – passed away on Monday.

The young star – who played Young Nala on Broadway’s The Lion King for seven months – was diagnosed with an aggressive form of Leukemia in April, attracting the attention of celebrities who wanted to help. Both Rihanna and Alicia Keys urged their own fans to be tested to find a bone marrow match for Shannon and others who suffer from the disease. Keys even Skyped with Shannon while she was in hospital.

“(Tavarez) should be performing on Broadway, but is confined to her bed, fighting for her life,” said Rihanna in July. “She needs to find a bone marrow donor to survive. I urge all my fans to register (as donors). It’s the most beautiful thing someone could do, to give the gift of life.”

Stars Alicia Keys and Rihanna have urged fans to become bone marrow donors, so they could possibly be a match for a talented young girl with a bright future and others suffering from leukemia.

Shannon Talvarez, an eleven-year old girl who played Young Nala on Broadway’s “The Lion King” musical for seven months, was diagnosed with an aggressive form of leukemia in April. A bone marrow transplant is vital for her survival, but the young girl from New York City has been having trouble finding a genetic match, due to her mixed heritage. Her mother is African-American, while her father is Hispanic; both of these racial groups are the most underrepresented in bone marrow registries.

Many have come together to support Talvarez’s fight against cancer, including R&B singers Alicia Keys and Rihanna. They are encouraging their fans to get tested to see if they could be a match for Talvarez, and others who are suffering from this disease. She needs all the help she can get, before it is too late.

Music star Rihanna is urging her fans to support DKMS Americas in winning a $250,000 Pepsi Refresh Everything grant.

The Pepsi Refresh Project allows for website visitors to nominate and vote for their favorite charitable organizations. Nominees with the highest votes receive grants to extend their services.

DKMS is the world’s largest bone marrow donor center. Every year, through recruitment programs and campaigns, the organization registers new donors for leukemia patients. If DKMS receives the grant, the prize money will be used to finance 4000 new donor registrations.

Audience Members Help Charity To See Rihanna In Israel
