James McCartney To Host David Lynch Foundation Event

The David Lynch Foundation will launch its new performance division, DLF Live, at the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival on June 15, 2013.

DLF Live will harness the power of arts and creativity to bring meditation to at-risk communities. The launch will be marked by a screening of Meditation, Creativity, Peace, a documentary highlighting filmmaker David Lynch and his decades-long dedication to meditation and the arts. The screening is sponsored by the David Lynch Foundation (DLF) and will be hosted by James McCartney, musician and son of legend Paul McCartney and Bob Roth, Executive Director of DLF.

DLF Live will produce concerts, film festivals, stand-up comedy shows, film competitions, conferences and arts events to support the work of the David Lynch Foundation. All proceeds will go towards DLF’s work to bring healing through meditation to underserved communities. One of DLF Live’s goals will be to raise funds to teach meditation to 1,000,000 at-risk youth around the world over the next five years. DLF Live’s Board of Advisors includes music industry leaders Russell Simmons, Scooter Braun, Dan McCarroll and Craig Kallman.

Hillsides, a Los Angeles children’s charity, kicked off its fifth annual Foster Soles celebrity auction at Bar Celona restaurant in Pasadena on May 22.

Foster Soles is an online auction of celebrity autographed shoes, handbags, or other personal items along with headshots. At the party, co-hosted by Dr. Drew Pinsky of “Dr. Drew on Call” and his wife Susan, guests got the chance to preview signed items from such stars as Elton John, Carson Daly, and the rock band No Doubt while nibbling on tapas and drinking Sangria as well as a special tasting of Adam Carolla's Mangria.

Several stars were on hand for the evening, including NBC anchorwoman Colleen Williams, NBC weathercaster Fritz Coleman, John E. Mahon, a percussionist and vocalist for the Elton John band, Canada’s sensational pop artist, Jayne Avaunte, Mr. Robotic, the new face and song for Coca-Cola, artist and musician JD Schultz, and Tess Broussard from the “Kroll Show” on Comedy Central.

Stars To Help Kick Off Fifth Annual Hillsides Foster Soles

Celebrities such as Elton John, Carson Daly, and the members of the rock band No Doubt will kick off the Fifth Annual Hillsides Foster Soles, an online auction of celebrity autographed shoes, accessories, and other personal items along with their signed headshots.

Dr. Drew Pinsky, host of the nationally syndicated radio show “Loveline,” along with his wife, Susan Pinsky, will serve as co-chairs. A party to launch the auction will be held at Bar Celona restaurant in Pasadena on Wednesday, May 22, 2013, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

The online auction runs from May 22nd through June 1st to coincide with Foster Care Awareness Month, which raises awareness of national foster care issues and the plight of children and youth in the system. Hillsides, a Los Angeles children’s charity, based in Pasadena, is asking celebrities to donate autographed shoes, accessories, and other personal items along with their signed headshot. This year Hillsides is celebrating its centennial, so they are expecting participation to be greater than ever.

Universal Picture’s “Big Miracle” received best Feature Film for its inspiring true story about international efforts to save a family of trapped whales, Comedy Central’s “The Colbert Report” picked up the Sid Caesar Comedy Award for its biting satire of a Congressman’s defense of dogfighting, and NBC’s “Harry’s Law” won the Dramatic Series Award for a thought-provoking storyline questioning the ethics of keeping primates in captivity. This event brought Rose and guests together to celebrate life the new animal healing center, which is normally closed to the public. Following a hug and food filled visit with newly rescued cows, horses, goats and sheep, all guests went across the street to The Agua Dulce Winery for vegan cheese and crackers, wine tasting and a delicious gourmet vegan dinner provided by Chef Rawsheed. A pre-registration and pre-donation was requested of all attendees.

Stars Respond To SOS For Orangutans

Celebrities from across the globe are responding to a charity’s SOS call to support critically endangered orangutans in Sumatra.

Support for the Sumatran Orangutan Society's (SOS) second Jungle VIP online auction, which starts on 1st March, is flooding in from internationally recognised names including Coldplay, Dominic Monaghan, Sebastian Vettel, Natalie Portman, Ellen DeGeneres, Seth Green, Graham Norton and Gillian Anderson. Last year the auction raised over £10,000 for vital conservation programmes, and it is hoped that similar success will be had this year.

Among the supporters is British actor and celebrity Joanna Lumley, donating an exclusive script page from 2002’s Ella Enchanted, signed by stars including Minnie Driver, Anne Hathaway and Joanna herself, and Coldplay have donated a limited edition lithograph of their Viva La Vida album artwork, signed by all the band members. Other auction lots include Lord of the Rings photos and a blu-ray signed by Dominic ‘Merry’ Monaghan and Billy 'Pippin' Boyd, and a signed racing top worn by Formula 1 three-times World Champion Sebastian Vettel.

Actor and UNICEF Ambassador Ewan McGregor was on the Ellen Show last Friday, talking not only about his latest movie, but also about UNICEF.

He specifically urged viewers to donate to help the children of Syria, who are not only dealing with the violence in their country, but are now facing a bitterly cold winter. The Ellen show offered to donate up to $10,000 dollars to UNICEF to help Syria’s children. The only caveat? Ewan McGregor had to climb a giant beanstalk.

Anjelica Huston Named PETA's 2012 Person Of The Year

In 2012, Anjelica Huston's volunteer work accomplished a goal first set in 2008, when Huston filmed PETA's hard-hitting video exposé of how great apes suffer in the entertainment industry: All of the top 10 advertising agencies in the U.S. have now adopted policies stating that they will not use chimpanzees and other great apes in their commercials.

And to honor Huston for her work defending animals—which this year also included speaking out against the deadly fur trade and New York’s cruel horse-drawn carriage industry—PETA has named her its 2012 Person of the Year.

“Having worked with actors for many years, I find it hard to believe that anyone would have to be dragged, kicking and screaming, into show business. But the next time that you see a chimpanzee in a movie, on TV, or in an ad, chances are, that’s exactly what happened,” Huston says in her exclusive PETA video. The actor sent her video to agency chiefs across the country, showing them exactly how great apes are torn away from their mothers shortly after birth and frequently beaten during training to perform in ads for companies such as Dodge, Europcar, Pfizer, Samsung, and Travelers Insurance, all of which pulled their ads after talks with PETA.

 The Animal Rescue Team also works with law enforcement to investigate illegal animal cruelty such as puppy mills and animal fighting, and to help seize animals who are abused and neglected. Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon bid $21,000 for a pair of Project C.A.N.V.A.S shoes and a diver’s watch designed by Audemars Piguet at an art fundraising auction to benefit the Urban Arts Partnership at the Opera Gallery in New York City last weekend.

Both Nick and Mariah also designed custom shoes for the event, with Mariah’s bling-inspired sneakers selling for $2,000 – the highest price paid for a single pair of footwear throughout the evening – which was snatched up by BET chairman Debra Lee.

Nick, who hosted the evening, recently praised Project C.A.N.V.A.S – which stands for CAN Visually Achieve Success and promotes individuality and personality – saying: ‘’It inspires originality for young people.’’
