The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD), the nation’s lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) media advocacy and anti-defamation organization, has announced the nominees for its 23rd Annual GLAAD Media Awards. By recognizing and honoring media for outstanding images of the LGBT community, the GLAAD Media Awards serve as a benchmark for the media industry and complement GLAAD’s work to bring LGBT images and stories to Americans.

Among the nominees: Beginners, starring Christopher Plummer and Ewan McGregor, Albert Nobbs, starring Glenn Close and Janet McTeer, J. Edgar, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Armie Hammer, Showtime’s hit shows Shameless and The Big C, Glee, Modern Family, CBS ratings leader NCIS, Becoming Chaz, the AIDS documentary We Were Here, Dancing with the Stars with Carson Kressley and Chaz Bono, the wedding of a gay staffer on Conan, David Letterman’s interview with Chaz Bono, CNN’s Anderson Cooper 360, TheRoot.com’s “Black and Transgender: A Double Burden,” and Lady Gaga for her Born This Way album.

Spanish-language nominees include Ricky Martin for his album Música + Alma + Sexo, telenovelas Las Aparicio, Los Exitosos Gome$, and El Último Matrimonio Feliz, news programs Noticiero con Paola Rojas and Despierta América, and ESPN Deportes’ SportsCenter.

Ewan McGregor To Go Go For Charity Again

Ewan McGregor will once again return as host for this year’s Go Go Gala for charity.

The fourth annual Go Go Gala will benefit the Go Campaign, an organization dedicated to empowering orphans and vulnerable children throughout the world to secure a better future. The Go Campaign is a youth-driven nonprofit that cuts out the red tape and provides a direct connection to deserving grass-roots organizations serving children in need.

This year, Ewan will join the Go Campaign in honoring Chris Mburu. Chris grew up in Kenya having his $15 a month school fees sponsored by a schoolteacher in Sweden – a Holocaust survivor who felt it was important to give back. She had no idea how her small act of paying it forward would change the life of this boy she had never met. Chris not only excelled in school, but upon graduating from Harvard Law, Chris started a foundation in the name of his benefactor, continuing this chain of paying it forward in a remarkable way. Chris, now a United Nations advocate for human rights, is the subject of the HBO Emmy-nominated documentary A Small Act.

Bono And Celebrity Friends Lead PSA Against Famine

Bono has recruited some of his celebrity friends – including George Clooney, Jessica Alba and Joe Jonas for a new charity PSA aimed at raising awareness about the famine in East Africa.

“Drought, violence and political instability have invited in the grim reaper on a scale we have not seen in 20 years… more than 30,000 children have died in just three months,” he writes in The Huffington Post. "The pictures from Dadaab look like a nightmare from centuries past. Yet, this is the 21st century and these pictures are real and, on the whole, unseen. The food crisis in the Horn of Africa is nothing short of a humanitarian catastrophe, but it is getting less attention than the latest Hollywood break-ups and make-ups.

“ONE’s new film The F Word: Famine is the Real Obscenity isn’t a typical emotional emergency appeal. It’s about focusing the media spotlight on the tragedy unfolding. It’s about building political support in the US and around the world for interventions that will stop the suffering today and break the cycle of famine in the future. Most of all, it’s about taking action — because famine is man-made.

Ewan McGregor is set to tackle a sailing race for charity in the UK this month.

The annual Artemis Challenge will once again take palce during Cowes Week off the Isle Of Wight on August 10. The race features yachts in a 50 mile high speed sprint around the Isle of Wight, with the winning skipper taking away £10,000 for their chosen charity. Celebrities who have taken part in the past include Bryan Adams, and Harry Potter twins James and Oliver Phelps.

McGregor will join British round-the-world skipper Alex Thompson on the Hugo Boss for the race to raise money for UNICEF.

Mena Suvari Urges Fans To Help The Hungry In East Africa

Mena Suvari is urging her fans to donate to UNICEF’s campaign to end the famine in East Africa.

“Help Humanity Half a million children are going to die of malnutrition if we don’t act,” the star tweeted yesterday.

The epicentre of the drought has hit the poorest people in the region in an area straddling the borders of Kenya, Ethiopia and Somalia where families rely heavily on livestock for survival. In some parts of the region, up to 60 percent of their herds have already died while the remainder are either sick or dangerously underweight. The price of animals has plummeted by half while the cost of cereals has soared. In Somalia the price of a main staple sorghum has risen by a massive 240 percent since this time last year.

Actor-turned-motorcycle enthusiast Charley Boorman has launched Dyslexia Action’s new poetry competition.

Boorman, who traveled on motorcycle with Ewan McGregor around the world and through Africa, is president of Dyslexia Action and suffers from dyslexia himself.

The theme of the competition this year – open to any UK child from the age of 7-15 – is “What Makes Me Me?” According to the charity: "The aim of the competition is to help raise awareness of the importance of being able to read and write and is being championed by poet and musician Benjamin Zephaniah who is dyslexic himself and knows how important poetry has been in helping him express his thoughts and feelings.

A collection of over 50 original signed lip prints from some of the biggest names in film will be auctioned in April in support of the charity Medicinema.

Amongst the stars who have donated a Healed With A Kiss lip print are Keira Knightley, Ewan McGregor, Kate Winslet, John Travolta, Shirley MacLaine, Jeff Goldblum, Madonna, Jeremy Irons, Sigourney Weaver, Dame Helen Mirren, Liam Neeson and Glenn Close.

A window display, featuring copies of a selection of the kisses, will be unveiled in Fenwick Bond Street, London and Newcastle during the lead up to Valentine’s Day 2009. The entire collection of over 50 original Healed With A Kiss signed prints will be exhibited at The Movieum, County Hall, London in March 2009. The Exhibition will culminate with a Party on 2nd April at the Movieum, as the first in a series of events to help celebrate MediCinema’s 10th Anniversary year. Ewan McGregor's Bike Raises Cash For UNICEF

Earlier this month, actor Ewan McGregor auctioned off his favorite motorcycle to raise money for UNICEF.

Look To The Stars can now reveal that the bike was sold for US$44,000 – with the money to go to the organization’s work helping children around the world cope with war, famine, poverty, and natural disasters.

“Unicef would like to thank Ewan McGregor for auctioning his much-loved motorbike, which has raised the sizeable sum of £22,100 for our work with children globally,” said UNICEF’s Fiona Hesselden. “This money will support Unicef’s Children’s Emergency Fund, helping children such as those in Zimbabwe or the Democratic Republic of Congo who so urgently need our help at this time.”

Scottish actor Ewan McGregor is set to auction one of his favorite motorcycles for UNICEF.

McGregor – a UNICEF Ambassador since 2004 – has donated his white Moto Guzzi California Vintage cycle to the charity to raise money for projects helping children around the world. The money raised from this auction will go to their Children’s Emergency Fund, which enables the organization to launch a response for children the moment a disaster strikes. Whether it is a flood, conflict or earthquake, UNICEF provides life-saving supplies such as health kits, food and shelter to children and families in need.

“It’s the first of its kind in this color and one of my favorite bikes,” said the 37-year-old actor. “I collected this bike from the Moto Guzzi factory in Italy and rode it back to London. I’ve loved riding it ever since and I know that you will too. As a UNICEF Ambassador, I’ve been greatly privileged to visit a number of incredibly inspiring UNICEF projects and see the impact of its work on children and their families. You have the ability to help ensure that UNICEF continues its vital work protecting children when disasters occur. On behalf of UNICEF, thank you for your support.”
