The Pope Joins Celebrity Charity Art Auction For Darfur

Unique works of art created by 100 celebrities will be auctioned by author Jeffrey Archer on the 15th September at the Drawn…to Darfur Celebrity Charity Art Auction in London to help the forgotten children of Darfur.

Lord Archer offered to help when he heard that nearly 100 celebrities – including His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI, Prince Charles, Prime Minister David Cameron, Melvyn Bragg, Martin Clunes, Rolf Harris, Anne Heche, Eamonn Holmes, Kelly Holmes, Ken Howard, Robert Lindsay, Julian Lloyd-Webber, Joanna Lumley, Ruth Rendell, Cliff Richard, Prunella Scales, Chris Tarrant and many more – have been drawing for Darfur as part of UK based charity Kids for Kids’ 10th Birthday celebrations.

Celebrities such as Dennis Haysbert, Ray Romano, Tim Allen, Andy Garcia, Kevin Nealon and others have been confirmed for the second annual SAG Foundation Golf Classic on June 13 in Tarzana, California, hosted by Criminal Minds stars Joe Mantegna and Thomas Gibson to benefit the SAG Foundation’s Catastrophic Health Fund.

In addition to 18 holes of competitive play, the event will include a live auction and an Awards gala where prizes and special honors will be presented.

Actors and Others for Animals, a Californian non-profit corporation dedicated to the promotion of the humane treatment of animals, will honor Betty White this weekend at its 40th Anniversary Celebration.

Betty White will receive the inaugural “Betty White Inspirational Award” established in honor of her outstanding work for animals, and the PETCO Foundation will be the recipient of the 2011 Award of Caring.

Among the celebrities expected to attend the event on Saturday, April 9, are Jamie Lee Curtis, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Valerie Bertinelli, Jane Leeves, Wendie Malick, Ken Howard, Susan Lucci, Fred Willard, Georgia Engel, Peter Marshall and many more.

Actor Ken Howard has been named as the national spokesperson for the Onyx and Breezy Foundation.

The Onyx and Breezy Foundation was formed in 2004 by Mark and Wanda Shefts to honor the memory of their two labrador retrievers. The Shefts’ passion for animals led them to create this non-profit foundation, which assists animals in a variety of ways.

In an amazing display of dedication and support, hundreds of celebrities, businesspersons, sports figures, and entertainment-industry leaders came together for “A Night at Sardi’s,” the annual star-studded benefit for the Alzheimer’s Association.

Held at the Beverly Hilton, the much-anticipated March 4 event raised nearly $1 million for Alzheimer’s care and research. In 17 years, A Night at Sardi’s has raised nearly $18 million for the fight against Alzheimer’s disease.

Comedian and author Chelsea Handler hosted the evening, which, in addition to cocktails and dinner, included red carpet arrivals, awards presentations and a research update. It culminated in a concert version of the musical “Damn Yankees” performed by some of the industry’s most recognizable talents, including Kristen Bell, Sean Hayes, Melina Kanakaredes, Katey Sagal, Victor Garber, Peter Gallagher, Kathryn Gallagher, Ken Howard, Sharon Lawrence, Vicki Lewis, Ron Fassler and Larry Raben.

Lisa Edelstein along with Eric and Tania Idle are Honorary Co-Chairs for the night, which supports the Best Friends Animal Society. The party’s honorary committee includes animal lovers such as Adrian Grenier, Charlize Theron, Nicollette Sheridan, Bill Maher, Dan Aykroyd and Willie Nelson, to name but a few.

The event raises funds for the Society’s programs in LA, which improve and save the lives of animals, including: A Puppy-Store-Free LA, Pet Adoption Festivals, Date with a Dog, Indie Rescue, Catnippers, Best Friends Brigade, Pup My Ride Transport Program.

Familiar celebrity faces met with members of the public for a fundraising evening of no-limit Texas Hold-Em poker while enjoying cocktails poolside at the W Hotel. Cadillac cars transported guests to and from the venue for a star-studded fantasy poker experience on July 10th.
