In 2005, Banner organized the Heal the Hood Foundation's relief concert to benefit victims of Hurricane Katrina. He said, “I feel that we all must unite to help our fellow citizens in their time of need. My vision for this concert is designed to meet the immediate needs of those who are underprivileged and have lost everything in areas that are looked over.”

In November 2006, David received a Visionary Award by the National Black Caucus of the State Legislature in recognition of his work after Hurricane Katrina.

Banner has a personally-funded college scholarship program which in late 2004 awarded five David Banner fans each $10,0000.

In 2004, as a correspondent for MTV News, Banner showed the hideous living and social conditions of Mississippi ghettos during the Presidential Elections.
