Since 1997, The VH1 Save The Music Foundation has provided over 1.8 million children with the gift of a complete education that includes music. The Foundation’s Ambassador Program, comprised of prominent musicians, athletes and stars of the film world who have committed to being the Foundation’s most powerful advocates and fundraisers, have helped raise over 1 million dollars to support the Foundation’s cause. Mandy Moore Brings Nothing But Nets To Cameroon

This week, actress, singer and humanitarian Mandy Moore arrived in Cameroon to raise awareness for the nation’s first-ever countrywide distribution of anti-malaria mosquito nets. Malaria is the number one cause of death in Cameroon among children under five.

Moore is traveling with PSI (Population Services International), an international global health organization for which she has been a long-time Ambassador; and the UN Foundation’s Nothing But Nets — a global, grassroots campaign to end malaria in Africa. Nothing But Nets recently launched an appeal to rush 225,000 life-saving nets to Cameroon in time for the distribution.

“I’m meeting the people who need these nets to stay safe from malaria—from two-year-olds to the Prime Minister,” said Moore. “I’m proud to be a part of this historic effort that will save thousands of lives here in Cameroon, and grateful for the help of so many American supporters who are donating to make this possible.”

Dozens of artists, including Sting, Bon Jovi, Pink, Bob Dylan and Kings Of Leon have donated tracks to a CD benefitting the Queensland flood victims.

Flood Relief – Artists For The Flood Appeal will also feature songs from Australian bands Powderfinger, Crowded House and Midnight Oil.

59 previously-released tracks have been donated by the bands for the three-disc compilation, including songs by Beyoncé, Billy Joel, Bruce Springsteen, Foo Fighters and Keith Urban.

“I recently traveled to the Central African Republic. Many people have never heard of CAR. I didn’t know much about it either. It’s a little smaller than Texas, with a population of about 5 million people. Just to put that in perspective — more than 20 million people live in Texas.

Former President Bill Clinton will host the third Clinton Global Initiative University (CGI U) meeting from April 16-18, 2010 at the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida.

CGI U attendees will participate in workshops and meetings focused on five main topics that are of particular importance to college students: education, environment and climate change, peace and human rights, poverty alleviation, and public health. Participants will discuss how student activists can make a difference around the world. Over the three-day meeting, attendees will participate in forums and working sessions to brainstorm ways to make a difference. Two previous meetings were held at Tulane University in New Orleans and The University of Texas at Austin.

Actress and singer Mandy Moore has had a busy week promoting World Water Day.

Tuesday, March 23, saw her join Alexandra Cousteau on Capitol Hill to take part in a Congressional briefing on water and its effects on global health. The pair then joined just one of the many World Water Day events that were held around the world – they joined the world’s longest toilet queue to draw attention to how the lack of water leads to the lack of sanitation.

Moore also contributed an article to the Huffington Post entitled “Sharing The Burden of Thirst on World Water Day.”

Mandy Moore shared her feelings recently and blogged in the Huffington Post about a way people can help Haiti recover from the recent earthquake.

She said, “I’ve found myself glued to the news…watching images of disaster flash across the screen. I’m sickened and heartbroken by the thought of tens of thousands who have lost their lives and the millions more who are without even the most basic necessities. In good times, the people of Haiti had little…now they have nothing.”

Moore is an ambassador for the global health organization Population Services International, and its child health and safe water program, Five & Alive. She traveled with PSI to Southern Sudan last year, and was “inspired by their ability to reach people in the most remote areas with water purification products.” Moore believes that PSI could make a great impact in Haiti as well.

Singer and actress Mandy Moore has just returned from her first trip to Africa, where she handed out malaria nets for Population Services International.

“It was a humanitarian trip to southern Sudan and I’d never been to Africa before and I absolutely fell in love,” she told WENN. "I was like, ‘I want to see the entire continent.’

“Although the Sudan is not a vacation hot spot, I fell in love with the people and their spirit; I was blown away by everything and I’m ready to begin traveling in that sense. I’m going to start working with this organization, called PSI (Population Services International) and they’re like this organization that works in, like, 65 different countries around the world.

Celebrities Support Latisse Wishes Campaign

Mandy Moore, Debra Messing, Angie Harmon, Marisa Tomei, Debi Mazar, Jewel, Jennifer Coolidge and Perrey Reeves were just some of the celebrities to attend a star-studded event last week in Hollywood to launch Latisse Wishes, a charitable public awareness campaign designed to help make wishes come true.

Actress Brooke Shields and beauty expert to the stars Anastasia Soare will lead the campaign to generate $1 million to support the Make-A-Wish Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to granting the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions.

The Latisse Wishes campaign was borne out of the tradition of blowing on an eyelash to make a wish come true and leverages the excitement surrounding the availability of Allergan’s Latisse, the first and only science-based prescription treatment approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for hypotrichosis of the eyelashes (inadequate or not enough lashes) that is used to grow eyelashes, making them longer, fuller and darker.
