Paul McCartney Gets Behind Meat Free Cookbook

A new cookbook inspired by the Meat Free Monday campaign – and featuring a foreword by Paul, Stella and Mary McCartney – has hit the shelves of bookstores in the UK

Following the huge success of the McCartney family’s Meat Free Monday campaign, the new cookbook launched yesterday and was inspired by the simple idea that going without meat for just one day of the week can make a huge difference to the planet, our health and even our pocket.

The campaign, which was launched in 2009, came about after the United Nations issued a report which stated that the livestock industry as a whole was responsible for more greenhouse gas emissions than the whole of the transport sector put together. Meat is in fact responsible for a staggering 18 per cent of the planet’s greenhouse gas emissions.

Beaulieu Vineyard, the great American winery at the heart of the Napa Valley with 111 years of history in fine winemaking, and the Official Wine Sponsor of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, has bottled up a very special way to benefit the Television Academy Foundation’s education programs.

BV created a custom-etched and painted, 27-liter bottle of the winery’s flagship Georges de Latour Private Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon. The 27 liter is the largest bottle produced for the wine industry, holds the equivalent of 36 bottles of wine, stands 3.5 feet high and weighs over 110 pounds when full.

Ashley Greene And Kelly Ripa Host Celebrity Charity Night For Ovarian Cancer

Super Saturday 13, deemed as the “Rolls Royce of garage sales,” attracted a bounty of celebrities for its annual sale on Saturday, July 31 in the Hamptons to benefit the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund (OCRF).

August 2010 Vogue cover girl Gwyneth Paltrow, supermodel Karlie Kloss, American designer Donna Karan, and celebrity stylist Rachel Zoe were among the superstars who enjoyed the family-friendly event. The celebrity support didn’t stop at the guests who came; over 200 designers including Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren, Diane von Furstenberg, and Giorgio Armani contributed to the designer garage sale, with prices drastically slashed. Massages, spa treatments, and pedicures were offered by contributors such as The Physique 57 Pedicure Salon.

Hosted by Twilight star Ashley Greene and television personality Kelly Ripa, the event had much more activities such as a carnival just for children, a luxury raffle, and plenty of gourmet treats. At Camp Divalysscious, there were performances, arts and crafts, s’mores, and personalized tee-shirts for kids.

Gwyneth Paltrow Goops About The Gulf Coast Oil Spill

Gwyneth Paltrow is encouraging her fans to be more mindful of the environment following the Gulf Coast oil spill.

Writing on her website, Goop.com, the actress recommends a book that helps highlight our own part in the disaster.

“A few months before BP’s disastrous oil spill, a book called Power Trip landed on my desk,” writes Gwyneth. "Thoroughly researched by writer Amanda Little, the book takes us across America, chronicling the history of our deep reliance on oil. In light of what’s happened, this fascinating book should now be a must read…Not only to understand the ways in which fossil fuel consumption has shaped us, but what we can now do to lessen (or even end) our dependence on this dwindling resource.

Uma Thurman's Key To The Cure For Charity

Uma Thurman has been named by the Entertainment Industry Foundation as this year’s ambassador for Saks’ Key to the Cure campaign.

The actress will take over from Gwyneth Paltrow as the face of the campaign, and will promote special T-Shirts to help raise money for the EIF’s Breast Cancer Research Fund.

“Everyone I know has been affected by breast cancer one way or the other,” she said. "It is vital that we work toward a cure as well as develop more accurate and advance testing.

Charlize Theron Hosts Charity Dinner For African Outreach

Nicole Richie, Gwyneth Paltrow and Matt Dylan were some of the stars to join Charlize Theron at a fundraising dinner in West Hollywood on Tuesday, April 27.

The stars gathered at Soho House to raise funds for the Charlize Theron African Outreach Project, an initiative created by the actress to create a safer, healthier and better life for impoverished children and their families in South Africa.

“We started [the project] with so little and thought, ‘What is this really going to change?’ And 18 months later I went back and there were about eight faces that I knew we affected and changed their lives,” said Charlize. “For me, going there when we launched, it was eye-opening that the things we take for granted are not the things that you can expect in rural communities in South Africa. Nelson Mandela came out of this area. How can you not invest? I always say even if you can only send two dollars and you don’t think that’s gonna make a difference, trust me, it does make a difference.”

Paul McCartney Goops For Meat Free Monday

Paul McCartney turned to Gwyneth Paltrow’s website, www.goop.com, to promote his Meat Free Mondays initiative.

“Ok, here’s the story on Meat Free Monday,” wrote Sir Paul. "In 2006, the United Nations issued a report which stated that the livestock industry as a whole was responsible for more greenhouse gas emissions than the whole of the transport sector put together.

“I found this interesting particularly because people at the UN are not a vegetarian society and therefore, could not be accused of bias.

Stars Back Charity Breast Cancer Campaign

Scarlett Johansson and Gwyneth Paltrow are backing Breakthrough Breast Cancer’s new campaign, Too Many Women.

Along with Sienna Miller, the stars are supporting the campaign that is calling on 201 ambassadors to each raise £500 in 2010 – making a total of £1 million by the end of 2010.

The campaign is being run by charity supporters Harry Becher and Catriona Blampied, both of whom recently learned their mothers were suffering from the disease.

Carrie Ann Inaba iParticipates At Food Bank

ABC’s Dancing with the Stars judge and iParticipate celebrity ambassador Carrie Ann Inaba donated her time – along with 50-plus volunteers – for a day of service at the Three Square Food Bank in Las Vegas on Wednesday, October 21.

The event was part of the iParticipate initiative that Look To The Stars reported on earlier this week, in which celebrities such as Michelle Obama, Blythe Danner, Morgan Freeman, Faith Hill, Matthew McConaughey, Gwyneth Paltrow, Simon Baker (CBS’ The Mentalist), Emily Deschanel (FOX’s Bones), Eva Longoria Parker (ABC’s Desperate Housewives), Julia Louis Dreyfus (CBS’ The New Adventures of Old Christine), Masi Oka (NBC’s Heroes), Michael Strahan (FOX’s Brothers), Kate Walsh (ABC’s Private Practice) and Rainn Wilson (NBC’s The Office) have joined with the Entertainment Industry Foundation to encourage people to volunteer for good causes.

Inaba joined her fellow volunteers in sorting and packaging food for distribution to needy residents of Southern Nevada. Three Square is the only food bank in Las Vegas and prepares more than 8 million meals annually for underprivileged families.

Stars Want Fans To iParticipate In Charity Initiative

Coldplay Donates To Gwyneth Paltrow's Favorite Charity

British band Coldplay have donated £1 million to a children’s charity in the UK.

The group has made the donation to Kids Company, a charity that provides practical, emotional and educational support to vulnerable inner-city children and young people, in particular those with severe emotional, behavioral and social difficulties, resulting from significant experiences of trauma and neglect. Actress Gwyneth Paltrow – who is married to Coldplay singer Chris Martin – is also a big supporter of the charity. Last year, she cleaned out her closet for an auction to benefit the charity, and she recently designed a range of clothes to raise money for the organization.

“[Coldplay] were moved by the tough stories they heard and want to be genuine participants,” said charity founder Camila Batmanghelidjh. “I got the feeling the donation was something they had planned from the start of their careers.”
