Kate Winslet will be releasing a special book to benefit her autism charity, the Golden Hat Foundation, in April 2012, and has called on some of her famous friends to help.

The book features a collection of stunning self-portraits from celebrities and cultural luminaries, all wearing a “magical” hat to support autism awareness and outreach.

Winslet has amassed a collection of photos from an amazing array of her friends and renowned personalities who have donned this special hat, taken a self portrait, and passed the hat along from one person to another. Oprah’s charity chat with Ralph Lauren in front of an audience at the Lincoln Center on Monday night raised more than $7 million for the fashion designer’s cancer care center in East Harlem.

Oprah chatted with Lauren in front of guests such as Michael J. Fox, Brian Williams, Anna Wintour, Martha Stewart and Naomi Watts at the event. Some proceeds from the event also went to the Lincoln Center.

The Ralph Lauren Center for Cancer Care and Prevention is a community based Center for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer through new models of patient care, research, education and outreach designed to address the unique needs of the community. The Center, made possible by a generous gift from the Ralph Lauren Corporation, is a partnership with Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. Rob Lowe has joined Valspar Paint and Habitat for Humanity International in unveiling Valspar Hands for Habitat, an initiative to auction the handprints of celebrities and notable personalities to benefit Habitat for Humanity’s relief efforts in Haiti.

Habitat has set a goal to serve 50,000 families impacted by Haiti’s 2010 earthquake, helping move them toward safe, secure and permanent housing. Those donating to the auction created their handprints using Valspar paint.

The Worldwide Orphans Foundation (WWO) will host its Sixth California Benefit Reception to support the organization’s mission of transforming the lives of the world’s orphaned children, and they’ve got some celebrity help.

The event will be hosted by Kristin Davis, Sucker Punch’s Carla Gugino, Grey’s Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes and Friday Night Lights’ Connie Britton.

The benefit reception is an inspirational evening of cocktails, live auction and special guests to heighten awareness about the plight of orphaned children worldwide and solutions to ending the global orphan crisis. This year, the reception will draw attention to AIDS orphans in observance of World AIDS Orphans Day on May 7. Today, with some 143 million orphaned children around the world, more than 15 million children are orphaned by AIDS.

Winslet met Ericsdottir when she narrated a documentary film, A Mother’s Courage: Talking Back To Autism, about the family"s mission to find a way to connect with Keli. Eventually specialists “unlocked” Keli by teaching him ways to communicate. Despite hardship, Keli now composes beautiful and deeply moving poetry. One of the poems, among the many included in the book, is called “The Golden Hat,” which describes a magical hat that enables an autistic boy to communicate.

(RED) has announced the launch of The Lazarus Effect Campaign, a multi-platform campaign across TV, online and print, including an HBO documentary airing on May 24, that will help raise awareness of the transformative effect of antiretroviral medicine for those living with HIV in Africa.

Launching April 29 on HBO, the awareness campaign will roll out across various TV and online networks in the coming weeks. The campaign equates the relative value of 40 cents by comparing trivial items worth 40 cents e.g. a stick of gum, a smear of lipstick — to the value of one day’s worth of life transforming antiretroviral medication.

Hayden Panettiere Leads Celebrity PSA To Stop Dolphin Slaughter

Some of film and television’s biggest stars have joined the makers of Oscar-winning conservation documentary The Cove to create a PSA encouraging fans to help stop the senseless slaughter of dolphins in Japan.

The My Friend Is… PSA features stars such as Hayden Panettiere, Woody Harrelson, Ben Stiller and Naomi Watts as they describe the slaughter of over 25,000 dolphins in Taiji every year.

The lights on the Washington Square Park Memorial Arch will go off at 6:15 pm tonight, December 1, for World AIDS Day.
