The Environmental Investigation Agency and a number of stars are endorsing a new petition calling on Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao to adopt a zero-tolerance policy on tiger trade.

The petition has been organised by TigerTime, an initiative of the David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation which has garnered mass public and celebrity support to raise awareness of the plight of the world’s last remaining wild tigers and campaign to reverse its decline.

The petition urges: “I appeal to Premier Wen Jiabao to send a clear message to his government, calling for an end to all tiger trade within China. This is to include a call for a zero tolerance policy applied to all trade of all parts and derivatives of tiger and other protected Asian big cats, from all sources.”

Leona Lewis is to host a special benefit for the Hopefield Animal Sanctuary in Hollywood this week.

Nearly 30 years ago, Hopefield Animal Sanctuary was founded to save horses abandoned in the freezing English countryside. Today, in addition to horses, the nonprofit animal organization has expanded to give more than 200 rabbits, pigs, cows, goats, cats and more a safe, warm and loving home. On July 19, the Hollywood Palladium was filled with more stars in one place than a usual Monday evening should for the 2010 Do Something Awards hosted by VH1 on the blue – not red, but blue – carpet.

Before the event kicked off, Melanie Stevenson from DoSomething.org streamed live and greeted celebrities, creating a Twitter craze. Tweets tagged as #DSawards were displayed across the stage on the electronic banner and questions for host Jane Lynch to answer were welcomed.

Host Jane Lynch, aka Sue Sylvester, delivered as many witty one-liners as her Glee character loves to partake in. The Dizzy Feet Foundation will hold its first ever fundraising event on Sunday, November 29. The inaugural Celebration of Dance will be presented by Nigel Lythgoe, Katie Holmes, Carrie Ann Inaba and Adam Shankman, and will feature Christina Applegate, Channing Tatum and many others.

“We see so many rough diamonds that you would love to be able to take under your wing and polish and say, ‘Wow, they look like they can become fabulous dancers,’ " Lythgoe told CNN. “But we can’t take people that just show promise. So in order to try and do something with that, we thought of the idea.”
