Heidi Klum To Trick-Or-Treat For UNICEF

The U.S. Fund for UNICEF has announced that top model, host and executive producer of Project Runway Heidi Klum is taking on yet another role, this time as the 2011 Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF Ambassador.

Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF is one of the longest-running youth volunteer initiatives in America. For 61 years it has served as the original Kids Helping Kids campaign for American children, providing them with an impactful way of making a difference in the lives of their peers in other countries.

As the 2011 Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF Ambassador, Heidi Klum will serve as the spokesperson for the first ever online Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF Costume Party.
Russell Brand And Kristen Wiig Voted Sexiest Celeb Vegetarians

You’ve had your say and cast your votes, and today Russell Brand and Kristen Wiig have been named as PETA’s sexiest celebrity vegetarians for 2011.

The pair were up against last year’s winner’s – Olivia Wilde and Bob Harper – as well as Bill Clinton, Bryan Adams, Jared Leto, Alyssa Milano, Aimee Teegarden, Isabel Lucas, Hayden Panettiere, Ellen DeGeneres and past winners Anthony Kiedis, Leona Lewis, Kellie Pickler and a host of others.

According to PETA: "Russell, a vegetarian since the age of 14, keeps us endlessly entertained with his wit and crazy antics, which always leave us wanting more. He explains, “You shouldn’t eat animals, it’s mean to them.” Kristen makes us laugh until we cry in whatever she does—whether she’s lighting up the big screen in films like Bridesmaids or cracking us up with her unique characters on Saturday Night Live. Her jam-packed schedule is often crazy, so Kristen stays healthy by eating lots of tofu and soy. But both of these hilarious hotties know that there’s nothing funny about the abuse endured by animals raised for food on factory farms. These sexy stars prove that being vegetarian helps a person shine from the inside out."

Alyssa Milano Donates Another Birthday To Charity

Alyssa Milano has donated her birthday to charity for the second year.

Following last year’s successful campaign – which saw the actress’ fans donate $92,000 to charity – Alyssa is once again asking for donations for one of her favorite charities, charity:water.

“I have everything I need,” she says. "All I want for my Birthday is to fund clean water projects in developing nations. Water-borne illness is the second highest cause of childhood death in the world. When water is unsafe and sanitation non-existent, water can kill.

Alyssa Milano's Drop In The Bucket For Charity

The Drop in the Bucket ‘Cause on the Rocks’ fundraiser presented by Causecast was hosted by esteemed actress, designer and philanthropist Alyssa Milano at the Viceroy Santa Monica on Tuesday, October 19.

The evening raised funds and awareness for Drop in the Bucket’s work improving the health and safety of children in Africa by bringing clean water wells and specially designed Eco-sanitation systems to African schools, particularly those regions such as northern Uganda and Southern Sudan.

“Every person on the planet deserves access to clean water and sanitation,” said Milano. “I appreciated the opportunity to be a part of the Drop in the Bucket fundraising event. It was inspiring and motivating.”

Eva Longoria To Launch TwitChange Celebrity Charity Auction

Eva Longoria has taken to Twitter to encourage her celebrity friends to support charity.

The Desperate Housewives superstar has enlisted the help of the stars to launch TwitChange, a massive online auction that will hit the Net on September 15. The idea is simple: TwitChange is the only global celebrity auction where Twitter users can bid to get three things: be followed by their favorite celebrity on Twitter, retweeted, or mentioned by them in a special tweet!

All proceeds from the TwitChange celebrity auction will provide AHomeInHaiti.org the means to finish rebuilding the Miriam Center. The Miriam Center houses, educates and loves on Haitian children with cerebral palsy, severe autism, and other major life challenges and is one of the only facilities of its kind in Haiti. The current facility houses children in the earthquakeʼs aftermath and is extremely overcrowded. These kids need and deserve a permanent home.

Stars Shine For Charity At Do Something Awards

On July 19, the Hollywood Palladium was filled with more stars in one place than a usual Monday evening should for the 2010 Do Something Awards hosted by VH1 on the blue – not red, but blue – carpet.

Before the event kicked off, Melanie Stevenson from DoSomething.org streamed live and greeted celebrities, creating a Twitter craze. Tweets tagged as #DSawards were displayed across the stage on the electronic banner and questions for host Jane Lynch to answer were welcomed.

Host Jane Lynch, aka Sue Sylvester, delivered as many witty one-liners as her Glee character loves to partake in. The hilarious opening, which can be viewed on VH1 here, shows Lynch with her long list of good things to do, ending with a bang as Sue Sylvester look-alikes flooded the Palladium. Lynch then showed pictures of her very noble “acts” of public service with Mother Teresa, Lindsay Lohan, the 1929 Great Depression, and the Berlin Wall.

Alyssa Milano Blogs About Charity Trip To Kosovo

UNICEF Ambassador Alyssa Milano traveled to Kosovo in May to participate in the commemoration of World Children’s Day, and she has blogged about her experiences.

“Of all my UNICEF field visits (I also spent time in Angola and India), visiting the settlement of Kolonia in western Kosovo ranked up there in the hardest experience I’ve had on a field visit,” she wrote. "The inhabitants of Kolonia, and especially members of the Roma, Ashkali and Egyptian community, tend to live in large collective housing of comprising many families. Living conditions are very bad, lacking even basic infrastructure. One of the main problems is the waste dump of the city, which is located just 100 meters away from this neighborhood.

“To see people live in this kind of poverty is horrifying and unacceptable. To make matters worse, the garbage dump that surrounds the settlement has become the livelihood of the community. Many children spend their time collecting metal and scrap to sell for recycling in order to earn something for their families. Food for household consumption is also scavenged from the same dump. I wish this blog were scratch and sniff so I could share what the intense smell was like. Heartbreaking.

Elton John Writes Public Letter To Ryan White

Elton John has written a letter – published in the Washington Post – to Ryan White, a teenage friend who died of AIDS 20 years ago.

“Twenty years ago this month, you died of AIDS,” wrote the singer. “I would gladly give my fame and fortune if only I could have one more conversation with you, the friend who changed my life as well as the lives of millions living with HIV. Instead, I have written you this letter.”

Ryan White was only 18 when he died in 1990. He attracted a frenzy of media when he was expelled from his middle school because of the disease, which he contracted from a blood treatment for his hemophilia. At a time when AIDS was poorly understood by the world, Ryan helped reduce stigmas and raise awareness.

Alyssa Milano Among New Stars Named In Red Cross Celebrity Cabinet

The American Red Cross has announced eight new members to its National Celebrity Cabinet, a group of celebrity supporters who promote Red Cross services by donating their time, helping neighbors prepare for emergencies, responding to disasters and lending a helping hand to those in need – down the street, across the country and around the world.

New members include actor Penn Badgley, who is best known as Dan Humphrey on the television series Gossip Girl, Giselle Blondet, a Puerto Rican who has long established herself as one of Spanish-language television’s most distinguished and popular on-air personalities, actor Josh Duhamel, who appeared in the hit movie Transformers, country music superstar Wynonna Judd, actor and hip hop music icon, LL Cool J, award winning actress and country music superstar Reba McEntire, actress and humanitarian Alyssa Milano, and actor, comedian and television personality David Spade. With the addition of the eight new members, the Red Cross now has more than 40 members on its National Celebrity Cabinet.

“The American Red Cross runs on the valuable service of volunteers to fulfill our mission, and we are grateful that these celebrities are setting an example by volunteering their time and talents to help raise awareness of our work in responding to disasters, providing blood, helping military members and their families and promoting preparedness through first aid or CPR classes,” states Gail McGovern, President and CEO of American Red Cross.

Stars Support Twestival Charity Auction For Concern Worldwide

On Thursday, 25 March, people in hundreds of cities around the world will come together to rally around the important cause of Education by hosting local events to have fun and create awareness as part of the annual Twestival (or Twitter Festival). And to help with the initiative, a host of stars have donated unique items to a charity auction.

The list of lots going under the hammer is long and exciting, and includes a phone call from Justin Bieber, the chance to meet Stephen Fry, a bag of goodies from Paris Hilton, as well as signed memorabilia from The Veronicas, Alyssa Milano, Jamie Oliver, Counting Crows, Andy Murray, Linkin Park and Chris Cornell, and much more.

Proceeds from the auction will go to Concern Worldwide, an international humanitarian organization transforming the lives of the world’s poorest, most marginalized children through access to education.
